Mandibular lateral incisors sometimes feature an additional lingual canal, which, if not identified and missed during endodontic treatment, can lead to postoperative pain. Thus, a proper diagnosis of the internal anatomy of a tooth is necessary before treatment begins. Radiovisiography (RVG), a cost-effective and widely employed dental imaging technique, is used in clinics to visualize the internal root structure of teeth.

This is a unique case of a single-rooted maxillary premolar with two separate canals in bayonet or S-shaped radicular anatomy undergoing post-endodontic reinforcement prior to crown placement. Bayonet-shaped canals present challenges in canal negotiation, cleaning, shaping, and obturation. The complexity of these canals heightens the risk of accidental file breakage and other iatrogenic errors, posing significant challenges.

Aim: In this, study's objective is to assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of metal and ceramic orthodontic brackets that have been adhered to enamel using a conventional acid etch/primer and self-etching primer (SEP) adhesive method.

Materials And Methods: One hundred excised human premolars were bonded on brackets and were divided into group 1 -Metal brackets were bonded on teeth and group 2 -Ceramic brackets were bonded on teeth. These two groups were further subdivided: subgroup 1a - 25 metal brackets bonded using conventional acid etch/primer adhesive system, subgroup 1b - 25 metal brackets bonded using SEP, subgroup 2a - 25 ceramic brackets bonded using conventional acid etch/primer adhesive system, and subgroup 2b - 25 ceramic brackets bonded using SEP; brackets were debonded using a computerized Instron universal testing machine.

Mesiodens are common supernumerary teeth that prominently erupt in the midline between the maxillary central incisors. If two or more mesiodens are present, they are termed mesiodentes, indicating the presence of multiple supernumerary teeth in the midline. These often cause aesthetic disharmony in the anterior teeth due to their abnormal position, leading to extraction in most cases and resulting in midline diastema when impacted or partially erupted.

In this case report, two uncommon fractures of the root located at the apex of the mandibular anterior teeth region were successfully treated and preserved using non-surgical endodontic procedures. These teeth possess a unique size, characterized by the presence of exceptionally elongated lateral incisors measuring approximately 29 mm, central incisors measuring approximately 25 mm, and canines measuring approximately 30 mm. For the lower left central incisor, the root canal was carefully navigated to the coronal fragment, whereas the apical fragment was left undisturbed and preserved.

The effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) digluconate, Betadine (BET), curcumin (CUR) on gingival wound healing is of interest to dental practitioners. Hence, we studied the average fibroblast viability % for each of the concentrations of CUR, BET and CHX over various time durations. It was found that mean percentage of viability of fibroblasts is high in CUR and low in CHX at all time periods while the mean percentage of viability of fibroblasts in BET 1% was greater than CHX but lower than CUR at all time periods.

Oral load among Indian children with cerebral palsy.

Bioinformation

February 2023

Department of Periodontology and Oral Implantology, Daswani Dental College and Research Centre, Ranpur, Kota, Rajasthan, India.

The motor impairments of cerebral palsy (CP) are typically accompanied by subsequent musculoskeletal issues, seizures, and abnormalities of sensation, intelligence, communication, and behaviour. These kids have a lower capacity for regulating oral health because of their poor voluntary movements. Poor oral hygiene brought on by insufficient brushing and flossing, increased use of sugary foods, and orally administered drugs puts people at risk for periodontal disorders and dental caries.

When the duration of orthodontic treatment is shortened, the patient may have a number of benefits, including an increase in the number of dental cavities, root resorption, and gingival irritation, all of which are associated to a higher degree of decalcification. In addition to drugs, magnets, and other therapies, they include surgical methods (corticotomies, piezosurgery), mechanical/physical stimulation techniques (vibration, lasers), and other forms of therapy. These methods, each of which has been validated by extensive research, have been shown to reduce treatment times.
