Background: Tension pneumothorax is a prominent cause of potentially survivable death on the battlefield. Field management for suspected tension pneumothorax is immediate needle thoracostomy (NT). Recent data noted higher NT success rates and ease of insertion at the fifth intercostal space, anterior axillary line (5th ICS AAL), leading to an amendment of the Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care recommendations on managing suspected tension pneumothorax to include the 5th ICS AAL as a viable alternative site for NT placement.

Background: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends birth doses of vitamin K, erythromycin ointment, and the hepatitis B vaccine, but the relationship between birth medication administration and childhood immunization compliance is understudied. The objective of this study is to evaluate rates of newborn medication administration, and risk factors for refusal in military beneficiaries and determine the relationship between medication refusal and under-immunization at 15 months.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was completed for all term and late preterm infants born at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX, from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2019.

The SITBI-SF demonstrated high interrater reliability and good convergent and discriminant validity. The measurement properties of the SITBI-SF were comparable across service members and veterans.

Introduction: Pulmonary embolism (PE) can be difficult to rule out without computed tomography pulmonary angiograms (CTPAs), as presentations vary. Multiple clinical decision rules (CDRs) exist to risk-stratify patients to avoid unnecessary CTPAs. However, the currently used CDRs are complex, and research has shown low compliance with their usage.

Polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis are inflammatory conditions that occur predominantly in people 50 years and older, with peak incidence at 70 to 75 years of age. Polymyalgia rheumatica is more common and typically presents with constitutional symptoms, proximal muscle pain, and elevated inflammatory markers. Diagnosis of polymyalgia rheumatica is clinical, consisting of at least two weeks of proximal muscle pain, constitutional symptoms, and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate or C-reactive protein.

We describe a case of generalized, extreme, colicky abdominal pain status post laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy where the patient formed thromboses in the portal vein, superior mesenteric vein, and splenic vein, which were visualized with computed tomography (CT) imaging. The case was managed using the standard of care, which is anticoagulation and/or surgical intervention, both of which were used in this case.

Prolonged exposure therapy (PE) is an efficacious treatment for active duty service members and veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, PE is sometimes associated with high dropout rates, limited tolerability, and temporary symptom exacerbation during treatment. Stellate ganglion blocks (SGBs) are an emerging treatment that has the potential to enhance outcomes for PTSD when combined with trauma-focused psychotherapy.
