To address the public health challenges posed by high-salt diets, this study utilized pepsin and flavourzyme for the continuous enzymatic hydrolysis of a soy protein isolate (SPI). The separation, purification, and identification of salt-containing peptides in SPI hydrolysate were conducted using ultrafiltration (UF), gel filtration chromatography (GFC), and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Subsequently, a molecular docking model was constructed between salt receptor protein transmembrane channel 4 (TMC4) and the identified peptides.

Engineering Research Center of Agricultural Microbiology Technology, Ministry of Education & National Sugar Crops Improvement Center & Heilongjiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Ecological Restoration and Resource Utilization for Cold Region &Sugar Beet Engineering Research Center Heilongjiang Province & College of Advanced Agriculture and Ecological Environment, Heilongjiang University, Harbin, 150080, China.

Nutrient imbalances, such as high boron (B) stress, occur within, as well as across, agricultural systems worldwide and have become an important abiotic factor that reduces soil fertility and inhibits plant growth. Sugar beet is a B-loving crop and is better suited to be grown in high B environments, but the methods and mechanisms regarding the enhancement of high-B stress tolerance traits are not clear. The main objective of this research was to elucidate the effects of the alone and/or combined foliar spraying of zinc sulfate (ZnSO) and methyl jasmonate (MeJA) on the growth parameters, tolerance, and photochemical performance of sugar beet under high-B stress.

A three-stage wavelength selection algorithm for near-infrared spectroscopy calibration.

Spectrochim Acta A Mol Biomol Spectrosc

January 2025

Daqing Oilfield Environmental Monitoring Station, Daqing 163319, China.

The near-infrared spectral data is highly high dimensional and contains redundant information, it is necessary to identify the most representative characteristic wavelengths before modeling to improve model accuracy and reliability. At present, there are many methods for selecting the characteristic wavelengths of NIR spectroscopy, but the collinearity among wavelengths is still a main issue that leads to poor model effects. Therefore, this study proposes a three-stage wavelength selection algorithm (Stage III) to reduce redundancy in NIR spectral data and collinearity between wavelength variables, resulting in a simpler and more accurate predictive model.

The number of maize leaves is an important indicator for assessing plant growth and regulating population structure. However, the traditional leaf counting method mainly relies on manual work, which is both time-consuming and straining, while the existing image processing methods have low accuracy and poor adaptability, making it difficult to meet the standards for practical application. To accurately detect the growth status of maize, an improved lightweight YOLOv8 maize leaf detection and counting method was proposed in this study.

Peroxiredoxin 1 modulates oxidative stress resistance and cell apoptosis through stemness in liver cancer under non-thermal plasma treatment.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

December 2024

Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology Laboratory, College of Life Science & Biotechnology, Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University, Heilongjiang, Daqing, 163319, China. Electronic address:

The role of peroxiredoxin 1 (PRDX1), a crucial enzyme that reduces reactive oxygen and nitrogen species levels in HepG2 human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, in the regulation of HCC cell stemness under oxidative stress and the underlying mechanisms remain largely unexplored. Here, we investigated the therapeutic potential of non-thermal plasma in targeting cancer stem cells (CSCs) in HCC, focusing on the mechanisms of resistance to oxidative stress and the role of PRDX1. By simulating oxidative stress conditions using the plasma-activated medium, we found that a reduction in PRDX1 levels resulted in a considerable increase in HepG2 cell apoptosis, suggesting that PRDX1 plays a key role in oxidative stress defense mechanisms in CSCs.

College of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Heilongjiang Bayi Agricultural University, Daqing, Heilongjiang, 163319 China. Electronic address:

Postpartum cows experience lipolysis in adipose tissue due to negative energy balance, and accumulation of free fatty acids leads to metabolic stress in adipose tissue. Ferroptosis is a type of cell death triggered by excessive buildup of iron-dependent lipid peroxides and is involved in the occurrence and development of various metabolic diseases in nonruminants. However, whether ferroptosis occurs in the adipose tissue of ketotic cows and the regulatory mechanisms behind ferroptosis are still unclear.

Previous studies have demonstrated that enzymatically prepared coix seed prolamin hydrolysates (CHPs) contain several bioactive peptides that efficiently inhibit the activity of target enzymes (α-glucosidase and dipeptidyl kinase-IV) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the anti-T2DM effects and potential mechanisms of CHPs as a whole in vivo have not yet been systematically explored. Therefore, we evaluated the preventive, therapeutic, and modifying effects of CHPs on T2DM by combining physiological and liver transcriptomics with a T2DM mouse model.
