The Scandinavian Obesity Surgery Registry (Soreg) was initiated in 2007 in order to track the quality of bariatric surgery in Sweden during a period of rapid expansion. The main focus of Soreg is quality control and a base for research. All surgical units that perform bariatric surgery in Sweden report to Soreg, and to date about 93 000 patients are included in Soreg.

The Swedish Perioperative Register (SPOR) - a national quality register - supports automatic data transfer from local medical records to its central database, without the need for further manual input. Covering 100 percent of surgical operations across all publicly run hospitals in Sweden, SPOR data show regional inequality regarding patients' waiting time from the decision to operate until the start of surgery. SPOR data can inform several areas of improvement for perioperative care, such as management of postoperative pain and nausea, increased use of the Checklist for Safe Surgery, and improved logistics.

Hypogammaglobulinaemia during rituximab treatment in multiple sclerosis: A Swedish cohort study.

Methods: In this register-based multi-centre retrospective cohort study of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients in Sweden, 2745 patients from six participating Swedish MS centres were identified via the Swedish MS registry and included between 14 March 2008 and 25 January 2021. The exposure was treatment with at least one dose of rituximab for MS or clinically isolated syndrome, including data on treatment duration and doses.

Radical cystectomy (RC) for bladder cancer is a complex procedure with an inherent risk of complications and even postoperative mortality. Historically, RC was performed in 44 hospitals in Sweden, which gradually decreased over time, and since a formal regional centralisation of these operations in 2017, cystectomy care is currently provided by nine hospitals. In the Swedish national urinary bladder cancer register (SNRUBC), complications after RC has been registered with high coverage since 2012, with data presented in an interactive online data resource (RODRET).

Haematopoietic stem cell transplantation for treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis in Sweden: an observational cohort study.

Background: A growing evidence base supports the use of autologous haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (aHSCT) for treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), but it has not yet been integrated into most national clinical guidelines. The objective of this study was to assess efficacy and safety when aHSCT is implemented in routine healthcare.

Methods: We assessed 231 patients and the final analysis included 174 RRMS patients who were treated with aHSCT in Sweden before 1 January 2020.

A survey of preferences for respiratory support in the intensive care unit for patients with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure.

Background: When caring for mechanically ventilated adults with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure (AHRF), clinicians are faced with an uncertain choice between ventilator modes allowing for spontaneous breaths or ventilation fully controlled by the ventilator. The preferences of clinicians managing such patients, and what motivates their choice of ventilator mode, are largely unknown. To better understand how clinicians' preferences may impact the choice of ventilatory support for patients with AHRF, we issued a survey to an international network of intensive care unit (ICU) researchers.

There is limited research about how age and ASA-physical status (PS) have changed among women undergoing caesarean sections (CS) and how these characteristics have affected all-cause 30-day mortality in Sweden during recent years. The aim of this study was to determine change in age and ASA-PS and impact on all-cause 30-day mortality among CS in Sweden between 2016 and 2022. Data regarding CS performed from 1 Jan 2016 to 30 Jun 2022 were collected from the Swedish Peri-Operative Register (SPOR).

Background: Proximal hamstring tendon avulsions (PHAs) may be treated nonoperatively or operatively. Little is known about the result of the injury, and its treatment, on the quality and function of the hamstring muscle after healing and rehabilitation. We hypothesized that the injured leg would have greater fatty infiltration and atrophy than the uninjured leg at follow-up and that these findings would correlate to muscle weakness.
