  • - The case discusses a 53-year-old man with alcoholic cardiomyopathy (ACM) who presented symptoms like shortness of breath and abdominal swelling, leading to a diagnosis of ACM, liver cirrhosis, and a rare isolated right atrial (RA) thrombus.
  • - Initial tests missed the RA mass, but advanced imaging techniques ultimately identified a large thrombus measuring 40x22x18 mm, prompting treatment with medication and a procedure called mechanical thrombectomy.
  • - The case highlights that isolated RA thrombosis is a rare complication of ACM, emphasizing the importance of using multiple imaging methods, especially transesophageal echocardiography, for accurate diagnosis and management in such cardiac cases.

Total anomalous pulmonary venous connection is a rare congenital anomaly that has four anatomical subtypes. In the supracardiac type, the common pulmonary vein confluence usually drains into the left innominate vein via a vertical vein; however, it may drain into the superior vena cava. Herein, we present a successful surgical repair of a rare type of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection in which the common pulmonary vein confluence was draining directly into the superior vena cava without a vertical vein.

This review delves into the intricate interplay between caffeine consumption and schizophrenia, examining evidence from epidemiological and clinical studies. While epidemiological research offers conflicting findings regarding the association between coffee intake and schizophrenia risk, clinical studies reveal diverse impacts of caffeine on symptomatology and cognition in individuals with schizophrenia. Some epidemiological studies suggest a potential protective effect of coffee consumption against schizophrenia, whereas others fail to establish a significant correlation.

December 2024

Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Hama University, Hama, Syria; Faculty of Dentistry, Arab Private University of science and Technology, Hama, Syria.

Article Synopsis
  • Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are unique RNA molecules formed by reverse splicing, and they play significant roles in cancer progression by affecting the STAT3 signaling pathway.
  • Research indicates that the expression of circRNAs related to STAT3 is often disrupted in various cancers, where they can either inhibit tumors or promote their growth.
  • This review highlights the need for further exploration of the relationship between circRNAs and the STAT3 pathway, suggesting that understanding this interaction could lead to new cancer treatment strategies.
