Background: Complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAIs), often caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria such as carbapenem-resistant (CRAB) and carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are a critical challenge in ICUs. Owing to their high mortality and treatment failure rates, there is an urgent need for effective therapies. This trial will compare eravacycline to tigecycline for treating cIAIs in patients in the ICU, aiming to provide a superior treatment option.

Previous research has often focused on studying the CNS damage in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), while the role of the peripheral blood in the development of NMOSD is also of significant importance. The relationship between metabolites in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) with neuroimmune is receiving increasing attention. L-carnitine, whose astrocytic accumulation is associated with neuroinflammation and demyelination, may participate in the pathogenesis of NMOSD.

Electronic address:

Finding new and effective natural products for designing antiepileptic drugs is highly important in the scientific community. The scorpion venom heat-resistant peptide (SVHRP) was purified from Buthus martensii Karsch scorpion venom, and subsequent analysis of the amino acid sequence facilitated the synthesis of a peptide known as scorpion venom heat-resistant synthesis peptide (SVHRSP) using a technique for peptide synthesis. Previous studies have demonstrated that the SVHRSP can inhibit neuroinflammation and provide neuroprotection.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed an AI model to differentiate between benign and malignant vocal fold leukoplakia (VFL) using white light and narrow-band imaging.
  • The study utilized a large dataset of images and videos for training and validation, achieving high accuracy rates in distinguishing VFL types.
  • The AI improved diagnostic performance among laryngologists, especially benefiting those with less experience; however, further refinements and testing are needed for clinical use.

Article Synopsis
  • Early diagnosis of α-synucleinopathies like Parkinson's disease is difficult but important.
  • Researchers created a specialized test to analyze microRNA in extracellular vesicles from blood plasma, studying over 1200 participants, including healthy individuals and those with sleep disorders or other related conditions.
  • Findings showed elevated levels of a specific microRNA (miR-44438) in patients with α-synucleinopathies, which could help in early detection and tracking disease progression over time.

Dysregulation of deubiquitination contributes to various diseases, including cancer, and aberrant expression of deubiquitinating enzymes is involved in carcinoma progression. As a member of the ovarian tumor (OTU) deubiquitinases, OTUD4 is considered a tumor suppressor in many kinds of malignancies. The biological characteristics and mechanisms of OTUD4 in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) remain unclear.

Identification of splicing factors signature predicting prognosis risk and the mechanistic roles of novel oncogenes in HNSCC.

Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis

April 2024

Sino-US Research Center for Cancer Translational Medicine of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University & Institute of Cancer Stem Cell, Dalian Medical University, Dalian 116023, China. Electronic address:

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the most frequent subtype of head and neck cancer, generally with a poor prognosis and limited therapeutic options due to its highly heterogeneous malignancy. In this study, we screened functional splicing regulatory RNA binding proteins (RBPs) that were closely related with the prognosis of HNSCC patients and showed significant expression differences between HNSCC tumors and normal tissues. Based on this finding, we chose six candidate genes (HNRNPC, ZCRB1, RBM12B, SF3A2, SF3B3, and SRSF11) to generate a prognostic prediction model and validated the accuracy of the prognostic model for predicting patient survival outcomes.

World J Gastrointest Surg

September 2023

Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University, Dalian 116011, Liaoning Province, China.

Background: Esophageal gastric anastomosis is a common surgical technique used to treat patients with gastric cancer who undergo total gastrectomy. However, using simple anastomosis techniques alone may not meet the needs of patients in some cases and can lead to complications such as anastomotic stenosis and ulceration. In order to overcome these issues and improve patient prognosis, muscle flap reconstruction technique has emerged.

Being isolated from the peripheral system by the blood-brain barrier, the brain has long been considered a completely impervious tissue. However, recent findings show that the gut microbiome (GM) influences gastrointestinal and brain disorders such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). Despite several hypotheses, such as neuroinflammation, tau hyperphosphorylation, amyloid plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and oxidative stress, being proposed to explain the origin and progression of AD, the pathogenesis remains incompletely understood.
