We study the algebraic connectivity for several classes of random semi-regular graphs. For large random semi-regular bipartite graphs, we explicitly compute both their algebraic connectivity as well as the full spectrum distribution. For an integer d∈3,7, we find families of random semi-regular graphs that have higher algebraic connectivity than random -regular graphs with the same number of vertices and edges.

Objective: To examine risks of severe adverse patient outcomes shortly after a left-without-being-seen emergency department (LWBS ED) visit since 2020.

Methods: In this retrospective study using linked administrative data, we examined temporal trends in monthly rates of ED and LWBS visits for adults in Ontario, Canada, 2014‒2023. In patient-level analyses restricted to the first eligible LWBS ED visit, we used modified Poisson regression to compare the composite outcome of 7-day all-cause mortality or hospitalization following a LWBS ED visit for April 1, 2022‒March 31, 2023 (recent period) to April 1, 2014‒March 31, 2020 (baseline period), adjusted for age, sex, and Charlson comorbidity index.

The world's first full-scale, 280 nm UV LED reactor for wastewater disinfection was tested at flows of 545 and 817 m day. The system achieved > 3 average log reduction of total coliform at 545 m day and the 817 m day flow rate achieved over > 2.5 average log reduction for all operational conditions.

UV light emitting diode (LED) disinfection technologies have advanced over the last decade and expanded the design space for applications in point of use, industrial, and now full-scale water treatment. This literature review examines the progression of UV LED technologies from 2007 to 2023 using key features such as total optical power, price, and wall-plug efficiency. The review found that optical power is increasing while the price per Watt is decreasing; however, the wall plug energy (WPE) is slowly improving over the last decade.

A systematic review of in-person versus remotely delivered interventions for youth with chronic pain.

The COVID-19 pandemic prompted a rapid shift from in-person to virtually-delivered care. Many youth with chronic pain have the ability to access care virtually; however, little is known about the efficacy of pain care for youth with chronic pain delivered virtually when compared to in-person. Such evidence is essential to guide youth in making decisions about their care, but also to inform what options health professionals present to youth.

Point of Care Ultrasound Used to Diagnose Nontyphoidal Endocarditis.

Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) can make an expedited diagnosis, which might lead to early correct management. POCUS should be used in a systemic and integrated approach to evaluate multiple organs in patients with sepsis and septic shock. We present a rare case of sepsis due to nontyphoidal Salmonella endocarditis with splenic abscess in which a multiorgan POCUS examination led to expedited treatment.

A longitudinal observational study on the epidemiology of painful procedures and sucrose administration in hospitalized preterm neonates.

Although sucrose is widely administered to hospitalized infants for single painful procedures, total sucrose volume during the entire neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) stay and associated adverse events are unknown. In a longitudinal observation study, we aimed to quantify and contextualize sucrose administration during the NICU stay. Specifically, we investigated the frequency, nature, and severity of painful procedures; proportion of procedures where neonates received sucrose; total volume of sucrose administered for painful procedures; and incidence and type of adverse events.

Understanding how marine organisms adapt to local environments is crucial for predicting how populations will respond to global climate change. The genomic basis, environmental factors and evolutionary processes involved in local adaptation are however not well understood. Here we use Atlantic herring, an abundant, migratory and widely distributed marine fish with substantial genomic resources, as a model organism to evaluate local adaptation.

A qualitative case study of pregnancy and early parenting in Canada's federal prisons for women.

Objective: The aim of this study was to understand the experiences of pregnant people and new parents in Canadian federal prisons for women, and to better understand their ability to participate in the institutional Mother Child Program.

Methods: This qualitative case study used semi-structured interviews with people who experienced federal incarceration during pregnancy or the early parenting years.

Findings: Major themes in the analysis include: 1) Reasons why- and why not- to participate in the Mother Child Program; 2) Mothering from inside; 3) Health care; and 4) Strategies and survival.
