Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the long-term effectiveness and safety of transvaginal mesh surgery for pelvic organ prolapse at a high-volume center in Japan.

Methods: Patients who underwent transvaginal mesh surgery between March 2010 and August 2015 were included and followed up for 5 years. As no mesh kits were available in our country, we used a self-cut polypropylene mesh (Japanese-style transvaginal mesh) for the procedures.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy(LSC) is widely performed and has been reported to safe and effective. However, statistical data on this technique are unavailable. Therefore, we designed the Japanese-style LSC, a further evolution of the French-style LSC, and initiated this multicenter study to prospectively evaluate its efficacy and safety.

Introduction: This report aims to describe our experience in the pelvic floor reconstruction of anterior enterocele following radical cystectomy by transvaginal surgery using a mesh for abdominal wall hernia repair.

Case Presentation: An 84-years-old woman developed pelvic organ prolapse 4 months after undergoing robot-assisted radical cystectomy. After examination, she was diagnosed with a midline anterior enterocele.

Introduction: A 50-year-old Japanese man presented with obstructive jaundice. We performed endoscopic retrograde biliary drainage before biliary decompression. CT showed a thickened gallbladder wall with low-density areas and a 35-mm gallstone; the stone was impacted in the gallbladder neck and cystic duct.

Background/aims: Phase III study demonstrated that vonoprazan-based Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy achieved higher eradication rate compared with lansoprazole. However, there is no study that evaluated the efficacy of vonoprazan in a large sample in real world. We investigated the eradication rate and safety of vonoprazan-based eradication therapy compared with our randomized control trial using second-generation proton pump inhibitor (PPIs).

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the efficacy of Kikyo-To (KKT), a Kampo medicine, in treating postoperative sore throat and nausea.

Design: This randomized, controlled, double-blind study was conducted among two groups of women who were scheduled to undergo benign surgery under general anesthesia. All patients had a physical status of 1 (normal, healthy patient) or 2 (patient with a mild systemic disease), according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists criteria.

Objectives: The present study aimed to determine the efficacy of Hange-Shashin-To (HST), a Kampo medicine, in treating postoperative sore throat and nausea.

Design: This randomized, controlled, double-blind study was conducted among two groups of adult female patients who were scheduled to undergo benign laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia. All patients in each group had a physical status of either 1 (normal, healthy patient) or 2 (patient with a mild systemic disease), according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

Background: Excessive anterior capsular laxity (elongation of the anterior capsular ligaments) causes shoulder subluxation during acceleration of the throwing motion, leading to a disabled throwing shoulder. Few biomechanical studies have investigated the relationship between anterior capsular laxity and internal impingement, another cause of the disabled throwing shoulder.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of anterior capsular laxity on forceful internal impingement during the late cocking phase.

Biomechanical analysis of articular-sided partial-thickness rotator cuff tear and repair.

Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory, Long Beach VA Healthcare System, Long Beach, California, USA University of California at Irvine, Irvine, California, USA.

Background: Articular-sided partial-thickness rotator cuff tears are common injuries in throwing athletes. The superior shoulder capsule beneath the supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendons works as a stabilizer of the glenohumeral joint.

Purpose: To assess the effect of articular-sided partial-thickness rotator cuff tear and repair on shoulder biomechanics.

Purpose: Glenohumeral range of motion is correlated with shoulder capsular condition and is thus considered to be predictive of shoulder pathology. However, in throwing athletes, a side-to-side difference in humeral retroversion makes it difficult to evaluate capsular condition on the basis of glenohumeral range of motion measured by using the conventional technique. The purpose of this study was to measure isolated glenohumeral rotation, excluding side-to-side differences in humeral retroversion, in asymptomatic high-school baseball players.

We examined 51 children and adolescents with orthostatic symptoms using two orthostatic tests, the active standing test (the AS test) and head-up tilt test (HUT), and compared circulatory responses, autonomic function in addition to the induction rate of syncope during short-time orthostasis. Syncope was induced in eight patients with both tests, in only six patients with the AS test and in only one patient with HUT. The induction rate was significantly higher with the AS test (p<0.
