Demographic, clinical and laboratory characteristics of extrapulmonary tuberculosis: Eight-year results of a multicenter retrospective study in Turkey.

Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is an important public health problem due to its diverse clinical presentations, diagnostic complexities, and significant impact on patient outcomes and public health. Our study aimed to understand the sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory characteristics as well as diagnostic and treatment modalities of adult patients with EPTB. This is a multicentric retrospective study that covers patients with EPTB cases followed up from January 2015 to December 2022 among tuberculosis (TB) dispensaries and Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology clinics of 15 hospitals located in various regions of Turkey.

The Effect of Ultrasound-Guided Erector Spinae Plane Block on Postoperative Opioid Consumption and Respiratory Recovery in Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy: A Randomized Controlled Study.

Background: The aim of this prospective, randomized, controlled study was to evaluate the effect of ultrasound (US)-guided bilateral erector spinae plane (ESP) block on postoperative opioid consumption and respiratory recovery in patients with obesity undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).

Methods: The study was conducted on 40 patients scheduled for LSG. The patients were randomly allocated into either the ESP block group or the control group.

The role of non-invasive oscillometric method to detect aortic stiffness in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism.

Introduction: Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is a biochemical condition that is diagnosed when peripheral free thyroid hormone levels are within normal reference laboratory range but serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are mildly elevated. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between SCH and arterial stiffness using two different non-invasive methods, including echocardiography and oscillometric arteriography.

Material And Methods: The study included 33 newly diagnosed SCH patients and 34 age- and gender-matched healthy controls.

The Effect of Aortic Angulation on Clinical Outcomes of Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of aortic angulation (AA) on periprocedural and in-hospital complications as well as mortality of patients undergoing Evolut™ R valve implantation.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 264 patients who underwent transfemoral-approach transcatheter aortic valve replacement with self-expandable valve at our hospital between August 2015 and August 2022. These patients underwent multislice computer tomography scans to evaluate AA.

Evaluation of Thyroid Function Tests in Patients With COVID-19.

Background SARS-CoV-2 infects cells via angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). ACE2 levels are high in the thyroid gland. Although the thyroid gland can be directly infected in COVID-19 patients, the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis is also affected.

Total oxidant/antioxidant status, copper and zinc levels in acute ischemic stroke patients after mechanical thrombectomy.

Background And Purpose: We aimed to identify the relationship of total antioxidant status, total oxidant status, and copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) situations with the short-term prognostic and stroke severity in acute ischemic stroke cases who were successfully recanalized by mechanical thrombectomy.

Methods: A study of 36 acute ischemic stroke patients and 22 controls were prospectively studied. Tube samples were attained at admission and 24 h after recanalization.

The relationship of kinesiophobia with depression and anxiety in nursing homes.

Objective: Within the scope of our study, it was conducted to examine kinesiophobia and fear of falling in elderly individuals staying in nursing homes.

Patients And Methods: Our study was conducted with 175 elderly individuals who stayed in nursing homes affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies in Ankara, Bolu, and Düzce provinces between January 2021 and April 2021. After the demographic information was obtained, the anxiety/fear of falling was evaluated with the Falls Efficacy Scale International (FES-I), kinesiophobia with the Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale, and the depression levels with the Beck Depression Scale.

Objective Recruits undergo medical examination before mandatory service. After enlistment, if recruits have health problems, they are sent to a medical board to establish fitness for their duties. We aimed to analyze the complaints of palpitations after physical training in recruits without a known history of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and determine whether the diagnoses were suitable for duty.

Evaluation of epicardial fat tissue and echocardiographic parameters in patients with silent enemy subclinical hypothyroidism.

Background: To evaluate epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) which is known to be closely associated with metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular risk factors (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity, age, smoking) and which is a more specific marker of visceral adiposity than waist circumference using echocardiographic examination in subclinical hypothyroidism which is one of the most common endocrine system diseases in the community but is mostly missed due to its asymptomatic nature.

Materials And Methods: The study included 60 individuals aged 18-65 years, comprising 30 patients with newly diagnosed subclinical hypothyroidism and 30 age- and gender-matched control subjects that had a normal thyroid hormone profile. 2D transthoracic echocardiography was utilized for measuring EAT thickness and other basic echocardiographic parameters.

Assessment of palpitation complaints in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.

Objective: The detection of cardiac arrhythmias during vertigo attacks along with the resolution of vertigo by treating the arrhythmias is defined as cardiac vertigo. The cause of palpitations that develop following attacks of non-cardiac vertigo is unknown. We aimed to investigate the effect of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) on the cardiac conduction system and evaluate patients' palpitation complaints using 24-hour ambulatory ECG (Holter) monitoring.

Methods: 123 eyes of 123 patients who received intravitreal injection (IVE) into the superotemporal quadrant at least 10 times for age-related macular degeneration or diabetic macular edema have been recruited. The demographic data, lens status, IOP values (preoperative, postoperative 0th min, and postoperative 30th min), and amount of vitreous reflux (VR) following IVE have been recorded.
