Our recent study demonstrated that the CC-chemokine ligand 2 (CCL2) present in primary afferent fibers (PAFs) plays an important role in the microglia-dependent neuronal activation associated with zymosan-induced inflammatory pain. The present study was aimed to evaluate whether BD1047 (a prototypical sigma-1 receptor (Sig-1R) antagonist) is capable of modifying elevated levels of inflammation-evoked CCL2 as a peripheral antinociceptive mechanism. In DRG primary culture, zymosan dose-dependently increased CCL2 release from isolectin B4 (IB4)-positive DRG neurons, a process that was inhibited by co-culture with BD1047.

The positive effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are primarily activated through molecular secretions known as paracrine activity, which regulates the function of various cell types including immune cells. Accumulating evidence shows that exosomes of soluble factors released from MSCs are potential alternative agents for stem cell-based therapy, although the exact underlying mechanism has not been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential effects of exosomes produced by adipose-derived MSCs and to examine the changes in anti-inflammatory genes in concurrence with the polarization of M2 macrophages in cellular models ex vivo.

Congenital anomalies are caused by a variety of risk factors, including individual and environmental ones. This study estimated the prevalence of oral clefts and examined their area-level risk indicators using data from The National Congenital Anomaly Survey in South Korea. Disease mapping and ecological regression were used to assess the geographical variation and potential risk indicators for oral clefts, such as living in a rural area, material deprivation, and limited access to antenatal healthcare.

Alzheimer's disease (AD), a progressive neurodegenerative disorder featuring memory loss and cognitive impairment, is caused by synaptic failure and the excessive accumulation of misfolded proteins. Many unsuccessful attempts have been made to develop new small molecules or antibodies to intervene in the disease's pathogenesis. Stem cell-based therapies cast a new hope for AD treatment as a replacement or regeneration strategy.

Liver cirrhosis is a major cause of mortality and a common end of various progressive liver diseases. Since the effective treatment is currently limited to liver transplantation, stem cell-based therapy as an alternative has attracted interest due to promising results from preclinical and clinical studies. However, there is still much to be understood regarding the precise mechanisms of action.
