Among energy storage devices, supercapacitors have received considerable attention in recent years owing to their high-power density and extended cycle life. Researchers are currently making efforts to improve energy density using different asymmetric cell configurations, which may provide a wider potential window. Many studies have been conducted on positive electrodes for asymmetric supercapacitor devices; however, studies on negative electrodes have been limited.

MXene is a rapidly emerging group of two-dimensional (2D) multifunctional nanomaterials, drawing huge attention from researchers of a broad scientific field. Reporting the synthesis of MXene was the following breakthrough in 2D materials following the discovery of graphene. MXene is considered the most recent developments of materials, including transition metal carbonitrides, nitrides, and carbides synthesized by etching or mechanical-based exfoliation of selective MAX phases.

Fibroblast growth factor 11 (FGF11) is a member of the intracellular fibroblast growth factor family. Here, we report the central role of FGF11 in the regulation of metabolism. Lentiviral injection of Fgf11 shRNA into the arcuate nucleus of the mouse hypothalamus decreased weight gain and fat mass, increased brown adipose tissue thermogenesis, and improved glucose and insulin intolerances under high-fat diet conditions.

Aim: Doxorubicin is a highly effective anticancer agent that causes hepatotoxicity and cardiotoxicity in patients. Fibroblast growth factor 21, a well-known regulator of glucose and lipid metabolism, exerts cardioprotective effects. Gemigliptin and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors are widely used in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes.

S100A10 (p11) is an emerging player in the neurobiology of depression and antidepressant actions. p11 was initially thought to be a modulator of serotonin receptor (5-HTR) trafficking and serotonergic transmission, though newly identified binding partners of p11 and neurobiological studies of these proteins have shed light on multifunctional roles for p11 in the regulation of glutamatergic transmission, calcium signaling and nuclear events related to chromatin remodeling, histone modification, and gene transcription. This review article focuses on direct binding partners of p11 in the brain including 5-HTRs, mGluR5, annexin A2, Ahnak, Smarca3, and Supt6h, as well as their roles in neuronal function, particularly in the context of depressive-like behavior as well as behavioral effects of antidepressant drug treatments in mice.

Background: Alzheimer's disease affects profoundly the quality of human behavior and cognition. The very broad distribution of its severity across various human subjects requires the quantitative diagnose of Alzheimer's disease beyond the conventional tripartite classification of cohorts such as cognitively normal (CN), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer's disease (AD). The unfolding of such broad distributions by the quantitative and continuous degree of AD severity is necessary for the precise diagnose in the cross-sectional study of different stages in AD.

-ethylmaleimide (NEM) inhibits peripheral nerve degeneration (PND) by targeting Schwann cells in a hydrogen sulfide (HS)-pathway-dependent manner, but the underlying molecular and pharmacological mechanisms are unclear. We investigated the effect of NEM, an α,β-unsaturated carboxyl compound, on HS signaling in - and -dedifferentiated Schwann cells using global proteomics (LC-MS) and transcriptomics (whole-genome and small RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq)) methods. The multi-omics analyses identified several genes and proteins related to oxidative stress, such as , , , , , and .

Diphenylalanine (FF) is a piezoelectric material that is widely known for its high piezoelectric constant, self-assembly characteristics, and ease of manufacture. Because of its biocompatible nature, it is useful for implantable applications. However, its use in real applications is challenging because it degrades too easily in the body due to its solubility in water (0.

Brain-inspired computing models have shown great potential to outperform today's deep learning solutions in terms of robustness and energy efficiency. Particularly, Hyper-Dimensional Computing (HDC) has shown promising results in enabling efficient and robust cognitive learning. In this study, we exploit HDC as an alternative computational model that mimics important brain functionalities toward high-efficiency and noise-tolerant neuromorphic computing.

The strategic design of the cathode is a critical feature for high-performance and long-lasting reversibility of an energy storage system. In particular, the round-trip efficiency and cycling performance of nonaqueous lithium-oxygen batteries are governed by minimizing the discharge products, such as LiO and LiO. Recently, a metal-organic framework has been directly pyrolyzed into a carbon frame with controllable pore volume and size.

Compared with their three-dimensional (3D) counterparts, low-dimensional metal halide perovskites (2D and quasi-2D; BAMX, such as B = R-NH, A = HC(NH), Cs; M = Pb, Sn; X = Cl, Br, I) with periodic inorganic-organic structures have shown promising stability and hysteresis-free electrical performance. However, their unique multiple-quantum-well structure limits the device efficiencies because of the grain boundaries and randomly oriented quantum wells in polycrystals. In single crystals, the carrier transport through the thickness direction is hindered by the layered insulating organic spacers.

The dysregulation of dopamine, a neuromodulator, is associated with a broad spectrum of brain disorders, including Parkinson's disease, addiction, and schizophrenia. Quantitative measurements of dopamine are essential for understanding dopamine functional dynamics. Fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) is the most popular electrochemical technique for measuring real-time in vivo dopamine level changes.

calcium imaging is a standard neuroimaging technique that allows selective observation of target neuronal activities. In calcium imaging, neuron activation signals provide key information for the investigation of neural circuits. For efficient extraction of the calcium signals of neurons, selective detection of the region of interest (ROI) pixels corresponding to the active subcellular region of the target neuron is essential.

The key to current Alzheimer's disease (AD) therapy is the early diagnosis for prompt intervention, since available treatments only slow the disease progression. Therefore, this lack of promising therapies has called for diagnostic screening tests to identify those likely to develop full-blown AD. Recent AD diagnosis guidelines incorporated core biomarker analyses into criteria, including amyloid-β (Aβ), total-tau (T-tau), and phosphorylated tau (P-tau).

A co-culture of neurons and Schwann cells has frequently been used to investigate myelin sheath formation. However, this approach is restricted to myelin-related diseases of the peripheral nervous system. This study introduces and compares an ex vivo model of adult-mouse-derived dorsal root ganglia (DRG) explant, with an in vitro co-culture of dissociated neurons from mouse embryo DRG and Schwann cells from a mouse sciatic nerve.

SLITRK2 is a single-pass transmembrane protein expressed at postsynaptic neurons that regulates neurite outgrowth and excitatory synapse maintenance. In the present study, we report on rare variants (one nonsense and six missense variants) in SLITRK2 on the X chromosome identified by exome sequencing in individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders. Functional studies showed that some variants displayed impaired membrane transport and impaired excitatory synapse-promoting effects.

Heterogeneous catalysts comprising noble metals and magnetic materials allow a straightforward separation from a reaction using an external magnet and are recovered easily. In this study, we synthesized magnetic FeO-Pd hybrid heterogeneous catalysts a rapid one-pot aqueous-phase method. The synthesized FeO-Pd NPs dispersed well with small size (∼50 nm), maintaining high magnetic responsiveness, and showed high reactivity and reusability for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction between aryl halides and phenylboronic acid.
