The use of cellular structures has led to unprecedented outcomes in various fields involving optical and mechanical cloaking, negative thermal expansion, and a negative Poisson's ratio. The unique characteristics of periodic cellular structures primarily originate from the interconnectivity, periodicity, and unique design of the unit cells. However, the periodicity often induces unfavorable mechanical behaviors such as a "post-yielding collapse", and the mechanical performance is often limited by the design of the unit cells.

Despite the promises in high-energy-density batteries, Li-metal anodes (LMAs) have suffered from extensive electrolyte decomposition and unlimited volume expansion owing to thick, porous layer buildup during cycling. It mainly originates from a ceaseless reiteration of the formation and collapse of solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI). This study reveals the structural and chemical evolutions of the reacted Li layer after different cycles and investigates its detrimental effects on the cycling stability under practical conditions.

The oxygen vacancies and hydrogen in oxide semiconductors are regarded as the primary sources of charge carriers and various studies have investigated the effect of hydrogen on the properties of oxide semiconductors. However, the carrier generation mechanism between hydrogen and oxygen vacancies in an a-IGZO semiconductor has not yet been clearly examined. In this study we investigated the effect of hydrogen and the variation mechanisms of electrical properties of a thin film supplied with hydrogen from the passivation layer.

Solar-driven photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen production is one potential pathway to establish a carbon-neutral society. Nowadays, quantum dots (QDs)-sensitized semiconductors have emerged as promising materials for PEC hydrogen production due to their tunable bandgap by size or morphology control, displaying excellent optical and electrical properties. Nevertheless, they still suffer from anodic corrosion during long-term cycling, offering poor stability.

High-voltage-activated Ca (Ca) channels that adjust Ca influx upon membrane depolarization are differentially regulated by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP) in an auxiliary Ca β subunit-dependent manner. However, the molecular mechanism by which the β subunits control the PIP sensitivity of Ca channels remains unclear. By engineering various α1B and β constructs in tsA-201 cells, we reported that at least two PIP-binding sites, including the polybasic residues at the C-terminal end of I-II loop and the binding pocket in S4 domain, exist in the Ca2.

Liraglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 analog, has beneficial metabolic effects in patients with type 2 diabetes and obesity. Although the high efficacy of liraglutide as an anti-diabetic and anti-obesity drug is well known, liraglutide-induced metabolic alterations in diverse tissues remain largely unexplored. Here, we report the changes in metabolic profiles induced by a 2-week subcutaneous injection of liraglutide in diet-induced obese mice fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks.

Metal halide perovskites are attracting a lot of attention as next-generation light-emitting materials owing to their excellent emission properties, with narrow band emission. However, perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs), irrespective of their material type (polycrystals or nanocrystals), have not realized high luminance, high efficiency and long lifetime simultaneously, as they are influenced by intrinsic limitations related to the trade-off of properties between charge transport and confinement in each type of perovskite material. Here, we report an ultra-bright, efficient and stable PeLED made of core/shell perovskite nanocrystals with a size of approximately 10 nm, obtained using a simple in situ reaction of benzylphosphonic acid (BPA) additive with three-dimensional (3D) polycrystalline perovskite films, without separate synthesis processes.

Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (ARSs) have evolved to acquire various additional domains. These domains allow ARSs to communicate with other cellular proteins in order to promote non-translational functions. Vertebrate cytoplasmic isoleucyl-tRNA synthetases (IARS1s) have an uncharacterized unique domain, UNE-I.

Serine/arginine-rich splicing factor 3 (SRSF3) is an RNA binding protein that most often regulates gene expression at the splicing level. Although the role of SRSF3 in mRNA splicing in the nucleus is well known, its splicing-independent role outside of the nucleus is poorly understood. Here, we found that SRSF3 exerts a translational control of p21 mRNA.

Under strong laser fields, electrons in solids radiate high-harmonic fields by travelling through quantum pathways in Bloch bands in the sub-laser-cycle timescales. Understanding these pathways in the momentum space through the high-harmonic radiation can enable an all-optical ultrafast probe to observe coherent lightwave-driven processes and measure electronic structures as recently demonstrated for semiconductors. However, such demonstration has been largely limited for semimetals because the absence of the bandgap hinders an experimental characterization of the exact pathways.

Prussian blue (PB) analog (NiFe, CoFe, FeFe, and commercial(cPB)) decorated carbon nanofiber (CNF) electrodes were synthesized by the drop casting method in this study to investigate the interaction between PB and CNF for the electrochemical adsorption (EA) and electrochemical desorption (ED) of Cs ion (Cs). The adhesion of PB on the electrode and the EA and ED of Cs were substantially higher when the CNF electrode was used, compared with the fluorine-doped tin oxide supporting electrode. The use of CNF led to the smooth occurrence of EA and ED of Cs, where the reported efficiency was: NiFe > FeFe > cPB.

Amphibians and fish show considerable regeneration potential via dedifferentiation of somatic cells into blastemal cells. In terms of dedifferentiation, in vitro cellular reprogramming has been proposed to share common processes with in vivo tissue regeneration, although the details are elusive. Here, we identified the cytoskeletal linker protein desmoplakin (Dsp) as a common factor mediating both reprogramming and regeneration.

This Protocol Extension describes the low-cost production of rapidly customizable optical neural probes for in vivo optogenetics. We detail the use of a 3D printer to fabricate minimally invasive microscale inorganic light-emitting-diode-based neural probes that can control neural circuit activity in freely behaving animals, thus extending the scope of two previously published protocols describing the fabrication and implementation of optoelectronic devices for studying intact neural systems. The 3D-printing fabrication process does not require extensive training and eliminates the need for expensive materials, specialized cleanroom facilities and time-consuming microfabrication techniques typical of conventional manufacturing processes.

Dynamic manipulation of supramolecular self-assembled structures is achieved irreversibly or under non-physiological conditions, thereby limiting their biomedical, environmental, and catalysis applicability. In this study, microgels composed of azobenzene derivatives stacked via π-cation and π-π interactions are developed that are electrostatically stabilized with Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD)-bearing anionic polymers. Lateral swelling of RGD-bearing microgels occurs via cis-azobenzene formation mediated by near-infrared-light-upconverted ultraviolet light, which disrupts intermolecular interactions on the visible-light-absorbing upconversion-nanoparticle-coated materials.
