The deregulation of protein translational machinery and the oncogenic role of several translation initiation factors have been extensively investigated. This study aimed to investigate the role of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2S2 (eIF2S2, also known as eIF2β) in cervical carcinogenesis. Immunohistochemical analysis of human cervical carcinoma tissues revealed a stage-specific increase in eIF2S2 expression.

Background: The treatment of chronic scapholunate dissociation (SLD) can be challenging due to several factors such as poor quality of ligament, malalignment of the carpus, limited surgical options, and risk of recurrent instability. Various surgical techniques have been developed, but there is ongoing debate regarding the optimal surgical technique. This study aimed to report the clinical and radiological outcomes after dorsal scapholunate (SL) ligament complex reconstruction using suture tape-augmented autologous tendon graft.

Introduction: Hemorrhagic stroke and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) are associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and vaccination. We aimed to investigate changes in the incidence of hemorrhagic stroke and CVST in South Korea before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and the factors associated with these changes.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a nationwide time-series study using population-based databases between 2007 and 2022.

We aimed to compare the associations of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) with coronary artery calcification (CAC). Patients who simultaneously underwent ultrasonography to diagnose hepatic steatosis and cardiac computed tomography to detect CAC were included. The presence and severity of CAC were defined with CAC-score thresholds of > 0 and > 300, respectively, and patients were divided into the following groups: no MASLD or MAFLD (reference), MASLD-only, MAFLD-only, and overlapping groups.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the leading causes of death, accounting for more than half a million deaths annually. Even worse, an increasing number of cancer cases are diagnosed yearly, and two and a half million new cancer cases are estimated to be diagnosed in 2035. Some antipsychotic drugs, especially those targeting dopamine receptor (DR) D2, demonstrated anticancer activity.

This study investigated the effects of ascochlorin (ASC), a natural compound derived from the fungus , on adipogenesis and obesity. We determined the effects of ASC on 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and whether it ameliorated to mitigate high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity in C57BL/6J mice. We found that ASC significantly inhibited the differentiation of preadipocytes by modulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, a key regulator of adipogenic processes.

Background: The superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) is crucial for the structural integrity and dynamics of facial expressions and is a particularly important consideration during facelift surgeries. This study investigated the anatomical structure and continuity of the SMAS at the site where the zygomaticus major (Zmj) originates, which is where the SMAS extends from the lateral to the anterior aspects of the face. Knowledge of these aspects is crucial for understanding the mechanics of facial movements and also the aging process.

Smoking is associated with elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels. However, the accuracies of the Friedewald, Sampson, and Martin LDL-C-estimating equations based on smoking status are unclear. We analyzed the accuracy of LDL-C levels estimated using these three equations based on tobacco and electronic cigarette smoking status.

Prostaglandin E (PGE) interacts with four specific G protein-coupled receptors, namely EP1, EP2, EP3, and EP4, playing a pivotal role in determining the fate of cells. Our previous findings highlighted that stimulating the EP4 receptor with its agonist, CAY10598, triggers apoptosis in colon cancer HCT116 cells the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This process also reduces the phosphorylation of the oncogenic protein JAK2 and leads to its degradation in these cells.
