We report a case of chronic dacryoadenitis associated with SARS-CoV-2, confirmed by histological analysis. A previously healthy school-aged boy was admitted to the paediatric department with a 1 month history of both eyebrow swelling and very mild pain in the upper parts of both eyelids. Gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted MRI revealed enlargement of both lacrimal glands.

Disruptions in lacrimal function can lead to various conditions, including chronic nasolacrimal duct obstruction and dacryocystitis, which may cause symptoms like excessive tearing, pain, and recurrent infections. In cases where pharmacological treatments are insufficient, surgical intervention becomes essential, which is widely used to restore effective tear drainage. This study evaluated postoperative outcomes of laser-assisted dacryocystorhinostomy (LDCR) in 48 patients, totaling 56 treated eyes, over a follow-up period of 6 months to 3.

Chronic dacryocystitis (CD) can result in severe complications and vision impairment due to ongoing microbial infections and persistent tearing. Tear fluid, which contains essential components vital for maintaining ocular surface health, has been investigated for its potential in the noninvasive identification of ocular biomarkers through metabolomics analysis. In this study, we employed UHPLC-MS/MS to analyze the tear metabolome of CD patients.

Introduction: Congenital dacryocystoceles are a rare condition caused by nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Symptoms include epiphora, nasal obstruction, and swelling in the medial canthus. Treatment usually entails probing Hasner's valve open and, if necessary, intubating the nasolacrimal duct.

To analyze the correlation between nasal mucosal microbiota diversity and the pathogenesis and prognosis of chronic sinusitis. A total of 80 patients with chronic sinusitis(CRS) admitted to Second Affiliated Hospital of Suzhou University were selected as the research group, and 80 patients with chronic dacryocystitis and nasal septum deviation without sinus inflammation admitted to our hospital during the same period were selected as the control group, nasal secretory specimens were collected under nasal endoscopic guidance by nasal swab, and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization classification time mass spectrometry, anaerobic bacterial culture and common bacterial culture were performed to compare the differences in nasal mucosal flora between groups. Patients with chronic sinusitis were followed up for 6 months, and nasal secretions were collected again to detect microflora, and the patients were divided into relapse group(21 cases) and non-recurrence group(59 cases) according to whether the patients had relapse.

We report a case of IgG4-related dacryoadenitis and sialadenitis (Mikulicz's disease) with acquired hemophilia A (AHA) in a pediatric patient. An 11-year-old female presented with intermittent swelling of the bilateral upper eyelids and neck areas. Clinical examination revealed bilateral swollen upper eyelids with palpable mass lesions in the lacrimal fossa.

Lacrimal sac and nasolacrimal duct tumors are extremely rare, and most of them are malignant tumors, which are often misdiagnosed as chronic dacryocystitis. We herein report a rare case of a 29-year-old female, presented with a history of watering in the right eye associated with a rapidly progressive mass for 4 months near the medial canthus. Further clinical examination revealed firm, non-tender mass occupying the lacrimal sac fossa extending above the medial canthus.

Background/objectives: Epiphora, or excessive tearing, is a common symptom often attributed to benign conditions such as dry eye or nasolacrimal duct obstruction. However, it can also be an early indicator of lacrimal sac tumors, which are frequently misdiagnosed or diagnosed late due to their subtle presentation. This study aims to identify the clinical features that contribute to delays and misdiagnoses of lacrimal sac tumors in patients presenting with epiphora, with the goal of improving early detection and treatment outcomes.

In addition to being a drainage system, the lacrimal ducts actively defend the eye through the action of the lacrimal pump, the presence of resident flora (lacriome) and the mucosa-associated immune tissue. Infection occurs when mucosal immune functions are overwhelmed. Lacrimal infection is a vicious circle, in which infection leads to inflammation and post-inflammatory sequelae, themselves a source of occlusion and stagnation, which in turn encourages infection.
