Article Synopsis
  • Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is a rare and aggressive cancer, and this case highlights a unique instance where it caused skin metastasis after a burn injury in an 85-year-old man six years post-treatment.
  • The patient experienced cutaneous metastasis on his fingertips, leading to concerns about limb function and quality of life, prompting the need for further exploration into the relationship between scalds and distant cancer recurrence.
  • The patient underwent targeted radiotherapy which successfully shrank the tumors, with some side effects, reinforcing the idea that radiotherapy is preferable to surgery to preserve finger function in cases of metastatic SDC.

The immune system has a substantial impact on the growth and expansion of lung malignancies. Immune cells are encompassed by a stroma comprising an extracellular matrix (ECM) and different cells like stromal cells, which are known as the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME). TME is marked by the presence of immunosuppressive factors, which inhibit the function of immune cells and expand tumor growth.

Purpose: In this study, a deep learning model was established based on head MRI to predict a crucial evaluation parameter in the assessment of injuries resulting from human cytomegalovirus infection: the occurrence of glioma-related epilepsy. The relationship between glioma and epilepsy was investigated, which serves as a significant indicator of labor force impairment.

Methods: This study enrolled 142 glioma patients, including 127 from Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University, and 15 from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University.

Purpose: To investigate the role and underlying mechanism of GDF11 on diabetic nephropathy (DN)-related mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis.

Methods: A DN model of rats was established in this study. Human Kidney-2 (HK-2) cells were cultured under high-glucose (HG) condition with or without recombinant GDF11 (rGDF11).

Critical in revealing cell heterogeneity and identifying new cell subtypes, cell clustering based on single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) is challenging. Due to the high noise, sparsity, and poor annotation of scRNA-seq data, existing state-of-the-art cell clustering methods usually ignore gene functions and gene interactions. In this study, we propose a feature extraction method, named FEGFS, to analyze scRNA-seq data, taking advantage of known gene functions.

The present paper investigated the expression of TLR2 in serum of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and lung cancer, and verifiedthe effect of TLR2 on the biological characteristics of lung cancer cells. The common differentially expressed genes in tuberculosis and lung cancer samples were analyzed by edgeR. The intersection of genes was taken and the enrichment analysis and string interaction analysis were performed.
