Pattern of burden on the family of patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder: A comparative study.

Ind Psychiatry J

October 2021

Department of Psychiatry, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Center, Dr. D. Y. Patil University, Pune, Maharashtra, India.

Background: The concept of burden of care came from the realm of behavioral sciences primarily in the context of looking after a psychiatrically ill person. Caregivers of schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) have to take over the totality of patient care since most of these patients are treated at home. As a result of this, they are exposed to negative consequences of caregiving.

A correlational study between perceived parenting style, psychological well-being, and emotional intelligence among adolescents.

Ind Psychiatry J

October 2021

Department of Psychiatry, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Dr. D. Y. Patil University, Pimpri, Pune, Maharashtra, India.

Background: In many reviews, it is found that parental responsiveness, parental emotion-related coaching, and parental positive demandingness are related to children's higher emotional intelligence (EI), while parental negative demandingness is related to children's lower EI. There is a lack of Indian work in this area.

Aim: To study the role of EI and parenting style in predicting psychological well-being among adolescents in an Indian scenario.

The loss of melanocytes in vitiligo is associated with architectural, transcriptional, and cellular perturbations of keratinocytes and manifests as a reduced proliferation potential in vitro and delayed re-epithelialization in vivo. To understand the molecular mechanisms underlying this delay, microRNA (miRNA) profiling was performed on split skin biopsies collected on Day 1 (basal level) and Day 14 (wound re-epithelialization) from nonlesional (NL) and lesional (L) skin of five subjects with stable nonsegmental vitiligo and 129 miRNAs were found to be differentially regulated between the NL and L healed epidermis. miR-21-5p, expressed at comparable levels on NL and L Day 1 samples, demonstrated significant upregulation during re-epithelialization.

Ind Psychiatry J

March 2021

Department of Psychiatry, Dr. D Y Patil Medical College, Dr D Y Patil University, Pimpri, Pune, Maharashtra, India.

Self-injurious behavior (SIB) can be described as an act involving self-inflicted destruction of tissue, right away or over a period of time. Patients with epilepsy have to deal with an often chronic and unpredictable disorder leading to adversity in many psychosocial variables such as employment, stigma, and overall quality of life. The above factors contribute toward SIB in these patients.

Increasing evidence suggests that mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) have beneficial effects in hypoxic ischemic reperfusion injury, but the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Here, we first examined the effect of OGD reperfusion injury on the vulnerability of human NPs derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) with regard to cell survival and oxidative stress. Cellular deregulation was assessed by measuring glutathione levels, basal calcium and intracellular calcium [Ca] response under KCl stimulation, as well as the key parameters of proliferation, glial progenitor marker expression and migration.

Background: The absence of melanocytes poses a challenge for long-term tissue homeostasis in vitiligo. Surprisingly, while individuals with Fitzpatrick phototypes I-II (low melanin content) have a higher incidence of melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancer, people with vitiligo are at a decreased risk for the same.

Objectives: To understand the molecular mechanisms that protect vitiligo skin from ultraviolet (UV)-induced DNA damage by (i) characterizing differentially expressed microRNAs in lesional vs.
