Annual outbreaks of Lassa fever have resulted in a public health threat in Nigeria and other endemic countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. While the Lassa Virus (LASV) is endemic in rodent populations, zoonotic spillover to humans causes annual outbreaks. This study reviewed the burden of Lassa fever (LF) in Nigeria between 2020 and 2023 and conducted a cross-sectional survey of Nigerians to evaluate their risk perceptions of LF.

The concentrations of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) were evaluated in snails from different locations in the Niger Delta of Nigeria to provide data about their sources and possible risk to humans from the consumption of snails. The OCP and PBDE concentrations in snail samples ranged from 0.31 to 12.

Background/objective: This study was necessary due to the increasing number of cases of natural disasters such as flood, air pollution, erosion, etc in Nigeria, particularly in the Abia state, as well as the accompanying psychological and health issues affecting individuals within families and society as a whole. The study aimed to examine the impact of rational emotive behavior therapy on farmers' post-traumatic stress (PTS) in Abia State, Nigeria.
Method: A randomized control trial was conducted in Abia state, with a sample size of 118 farmers with experiences of natural disasters.

Background: Apolipoprotein L1 gene () variants are risk factors for chronic kidney disease (CKD) among Black Americans. Data are sparse on the genetic epidemiology of CKD and the clinical association of variants with CKD in West Africans, a major group in the Black population.
Methods: We conducted a case-control study involving participants from Ghana and Nigeria who had CKD stages 2 through 5, biopsy-proven glomerular disease, or no kidney disease.

In this work, we employed an attractive hybrid integral transform technique known as the natural transform decomposition method (NTDM) to investigate analytical solutions for the Noyes-Field (NF) model of the time-fractional Belousov-Zhabotinsky (TF-BZ) reaction system. The aforementioned time-fractional model is considered within the framework of the Caputo, Caputo-Fabrizio, and Atangana-Baleanu fractional derivatives. The NTDM couples the Adomian decomposition method and the natural transform method to generate rapidly convergent series-type solutions via an elegant iterative approach.

Introduction: Teenage pregnancy is a major public health problem with huge consequences for maternal health and pregnancy outcomes. More than 90% of these live births are estimated to occur in developing countries. The objective of this review is to estimate the prevalence of teenage pregnancy and its associated factors in Uganda.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an idiopathic disease caused by a dysregulated immune response to host intestinal microflora. A hyperactive inflammatory and immunological response in the gut has been shown to be one of the disease's long-term causes despite the complexity of the clinical pathology of IBD. The innate immune system activator known as human gut inflammasome is thought to be a significant underlying cause of pathology and is closely linked to the development of IBD.

Background: Chromosomal abnormalities are genetic disorders caused by chromosome errors, leading to developmental delays, birth defects, and miscarriages. Currently, invasive procedures such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling are mostly used, which carry a risk of miscarriage. This has led to the need for a noninvasive and innovative approach to detect and prevent chromosomal abnormalities during pregnancy.

Background: The escalation of insecticide resistance across the World Health Organization (WHO) African region calls for the routine monitoring of insecticide resistance in mosquitoes. While pyrethroids are recommended for use and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) has been prescribed, it is imperative to reevaluate their efficacy across diverse geographical settings. The extent of resistance among mosquitoes to DDT and lambda-cyhalothrin remains understudied in Ika North East, Delta State, Nigeria, where the yellow fever virus was reported in 2019.

The development of cancer immunology heavily relies on the interaction between long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and molecular chaperones. By participating in gene regulation, lncRNAs interact with molecular chaperones, which play a critical role in protein folding and stress responses, to influence oncogenic pathways. This interaction has an impact on both the immune cells within the tumor microenvironment and the tumor cells themselves.

Since suppressor/enhancer of Lin-12-like (SEL1L) was cloned in 1997, various pieces of evidence from lower species suggest it plays a significant role in protein degradation via the ubiquitin-proteasome system. The relevance of SEL1L in many aspects of malignant transformation and tumorigenic events has been the subject of research, which has shown compelling in vitro and in vivo findings relating its altered expression to changes in tumor aggressiveness. The Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) in tumor cells is crucial for preserving cellular proteostasis by inducing the unfolded protein response (UPR), a stress response.

Background: Adolescence is a vulnerable phase when risky behaviours like smoking, poor diet, and physical inactivity set the stage for health problems like hypertension.
Objective: This study assessed the prevalence of high blood pressure (HBP) and associated factors among apparently healthy inschool adolescents in Delta State, Nigeria.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among apparently healthy in-school adolescents aged 10 to 19 years, using a multi-stage random sampling technique.

The environmental challenges associated with cadmium contamination in wastewater have necessitated the development of high-performing activated carbons (ACs) for effective wastewater treatment. Adsorption capacity depends on both the surface area and the adsorption-active functional groups developed on the adsorbent's surface during activation. Proper manipulation of key process variables using the appropriate activation route produces highly efficient and economically viable ACs.

Introduction: postdate pregnant women with one previous caesarean section that are planned for vaginal birth after caesarean sections are faced with adverse pregnancy outcomes. This trial was conducted to determine the effect of serial membrane sweeping from 38 weeks gestation in pregnant women planned for vaginal birth after caesarean section.
Methods: this randomized controlled trial (RCT) was conducted on 90 women at 38 weeks with one previous caesarean section.

This research study synthesized a base catalyst from the waste rind (WCLR) for the synthesis of biodiesel from the waste pig fat oil. The high-acid-value oil (high free fatty acid: FFA) was converted to low-acid-value oil through adsorption in sorghum bagasse ash with high particle sizes. The developed base catalyst was obtained from the WCLR and was characterized via thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD-FT), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) adsorption analysis.

This study explored the dietary impacts of some plant leaves (Centrosema pubescence leaves, Moringa oleifera leaves and Ipomea batata leaves) on the growth performance and carcass characteristics of Archachatina marginata reared in confinement. A twelve (12) weeks feeding trial on nine hundred and sixty (960) African giant land snails (A. marginata) fed various leaves was evaluated.
