Background: High-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a powerful diagnostic tool but can induce unintended physiological effects, such as nystagmus and dizziness, potentially compromising the comfort and safety of individuals undergoing imaging. These effects likely result from the Lorentz force, which arises from the interaction between the MRI's static magnetic field and electrical currents in the inner ear. Yet, the Lorentz force hypothesis fails to explain observed eye movement patterns in healthy adults fully.

The most common treatment method for patients with acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion is mechanical thrombectomy. However, complications such as cerebral edema and hemorrhage transformation after MT can affect patient prognoses, while decompression craniectomy considerably improves patient prognoses. The aim of this study was to identify clinical indicators, such as the neutrophil/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio, to predict DC.

This research paper presents an advanced AI-driven hybrid power quality management system for electrical railways that addresses critical challenges in 25 kV AC traction networks through a novel integration of single-phase PV-UPQC with ANN-Lyapunov control architecture. The system effectively manages voltage unbalance exceeding 2%, high THD, voltage variations of ± 10%, and poor power factor through a dual-approach methodology combining ANN-based reference signal generation with Lyapunov optimization, enabling dynamic parameter tuning and real-time load adaptation. MATLAB/Simulink simulations validate the system's superior performance, demonstrating significant improvements, including voltage unbalance reduction from 1.

Three-dimensional (3D) simulations of the structure of liquid crystal (LC) torons, topologically protected distortions of the LC director field, under material flows are rare but essential in microfluidic applications. Here, we show that torons adopt a steady-state configuration at low flow velocity before disintegrating at higher velocities, in line with experimental results. Furthermore, we show that under partial slip conditions at the boundaries, the flow induces a reversible elongation of the torons, also consistent with the experimental observations.

Conjugated coordination polymers (c-CPs), a novel class of organic-inorganic hybrid materials, are distinguished by their unique structural characteristics and exceptional charge transport properties. The electronic properties of these materials are critically determined by the constituting coordination atoms, with electron-rich selenol ligands emerging as promising candidates for constructing high-mobility semiconducting c-CPs. Currently, c-CPs incorporating selenium-substituted ligands remain scarce.

Introduction: Thiamine deficiency is common after bariatric surgery, but patients with obesity may be deficient in thiamine even before surgery. The purpose of this research was to determine the prevalence of thiamine deficiency in patients with obesity at a medical weight-management clinic and assess the relationship between recent weight loss and thiamine deficiency.
Methods: For this observational study, medical records were reviewed for patients (n = 146) at the nonsurgical obesity medicine and preoperative bariatric surgery clinic at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center between January 1, 2012, and January 31, 2019.

Over the course of evolution, hymenopteran parasitoids have developed a close relationship with heritable viruses, sometimes integrating viral genes into their chromosomes. For example, in parasitoids belonging to the genus, 13 viral genes from the family have been domesticated to deliver immunosuppressive factors to host immune cells, thereby protecting parasitoid offspring from the host immune response. The present study aims to comprehensively characterize this domestication event in terms of the viral genes involved, the wasp diversity affected by this event and its chronology.

Food-hoarding granivores act as both predators and dispersers of plant seeds, resulting in facultative species interactions along a mutualism-antagonism continuum. The position along this continuum is determined by the positive and negative interactions that vary with the ratio between seed availability and animal abundance, particularly for mast-seeding species with interannual variation and spatial synchrony of seed production. Empirical data on the entire fate of seeds up to germination and the influence of rodents on seed survival is rare, resulting in a lack of consensus on their position along the mutualism-antagonism continuum.

Lung cancer (LC) is the predominant cause of cancer-related fatalities globally, with the highest death rates in both genders, primarily attributed to smoking. The non-kinase transmembrane cell surface glycoprotein, CD44, enhances LC cell migration and invasion, leading to drug resistance and an unfavorable prognosis. This research formulated a cisplatin-loaded gold nanoshell (HCP@GNS) integrated with hyaluronan (HCP@GNS@HA) to enhance targeting capability and realize a synergistic effect of chemo-photothermal therapy (chemo-PTT) against LC.

Background: According to the latest Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) guidelines, carotid revascularization for asymptomatic individuals should be offered if the perioperative stroke/death rate does not exceed 3%. Heart failure (HF) has been associated with reduced survival rates following carotid revascularization, which may significantly impact the risk-benefit decision of treating asymptomatic patients with HF. This study aimed to evaluate the 30-day postoperative risks in asymptomatic patients with newly diagnosed and/or decompensated HF undergoing carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS).

Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. It is a highly heterogeneous disease, consisting of multiple subtypes that vary significantly in clinical characteristics and survival outcomes. Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a particularly aggressive and challenging subtype of breast cancer.

Cernunnos/XLF deficiency is a rare, severe combined immunodeficiency, inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern (OMIM number: 611290), related to the NHEJ1 gene. This gene participates in the DNA non-homologous end-joining pathway, repairing double-strand breaks in the DNA of mammalian cells. The clinical features include growth retardation, microcephaly, triangle-shaped face, recurrent infections, fibroblast's excessive sensitivity to gamma-ionizing radiation, and hypogammaglobulinemia; also, low counts of subpopulations of B and T lymphocytes, with normal values of natural-killer cells.

Inborn errors of immunity are monogenic disorders that predispose patients to immune dysregulation, autoimmunity, and infection. Some autoimmune diseases, such as autoimmune cytopenias, systemic lupus erythematosus, and inflammatory bowel diseases, are increasingly recognized as phenotypes of inborn errors of immunity. The objective of this article was to identify red flags or clinical/laboratory markers to suspect inborn errors of immunity in patients with autoimmune cytopenias, systemic lupus erythematosus, and inflammatory bowel diseases through a systematic literature review.

Autoimmune responses are characterized by the development of antibodies and the activation of T lymphocytes against self-antigens. This leads to an effector immune response against tissues expressing antigens, which are later recognized by the host immune system. Host antigens attacked by antibodies are called "autoantigens" and are of different kinds, including receptors, enzymes, and channel proteins.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a cornerstone technology in clinical diagnostics and in vivo research, offering unparalleled visualization capabilities. Despite significant advancements in the past century, traditional H MRI still faces sensitivity limitations that hinder its further development. To overcome this challenge, hyperpolarization methods have been introduced, disrupting the thermal equilibrium of nuclear spins and leading to an increased proportion of hyperpolarized spins, thereby enhancing sensitivity by hundreds to tens of thousands of times.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is a devastating disease which is associated with an increase in cancer-related death in the USA. The minority of patients are cured by surgery alone and typically require adjuvant chemotherapy in order to improve clinical outcomes. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is an emerging technology whereby microscopic levels of minimal residual disease (MRD) can be detected in the bloodstream.
