Effect modification occurs when the impact of the treatment on an outcome varies based on the levels of other covariates known as effect modifiers. Modeling these effect differences is important for etiological goals and for purposes of optimizing treatment. Structural nested mean models (SNMMs) are useful causal models for estimating the potentially heterogeneous effect of a time-varying exposure on the mean of an outcome in the presence of time-varying confounding.

Objectives: This study evaluated the representation of black researchers as authors of articles published in four peer-reviewed journals with the highest impact factors (IFs) in the field of sports science and sports medicine.
Methods: An analysis was conducted on articles published between 2018 and 2022 in four leading sports science journals with high IFs (2022): The British Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Sport and Health Science, Sports Medicine and Exercise Immunology Review. Data extraction from the articles included the researcher's names, sex/gender, total number of authors, number of black authors, their position in the author list, publication year, article title and type and digital object identifier.

Introduction: Data on the optimal management of patients with hematologic malignancies and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) are lacking, particularly for multiday chemotherapy regimens. We report our institutional experience in patients with B-cell lymphoma receiving multiday dose-adjusted R-EPOCH chemotherapy utilizing two CINV prophylaxis strategies.
Methods: We performed a retrospective, single-center, cohort study evaluating hospitalized patients with aggressive non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma receiving DA-R-EPOCH (April 2016 to October 2022).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is an age-related and progressive neurodegenerative disease. Growing evidences indicate that CD4 T cell dysfunction plays an essential role in the progress of PD. Here, in LPS-induced PD mice, we isolated midbrain CD4 T cell and peripheral CD4 T cell to perform proteomics, and then screened a total of 167 co-expression proteins via integrated bioinformatics analysis.

During the proliferative phase of liver regeneration, insufficient regulation of hepatocyte hydrogen peroxide (HO) overproduction can result in oxidative stress and hepatocyte death. This study aims to investigate the influence of Aquaporin 5 (Aqp5) on liver regeneration by evaluating its role in reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and NLRP3-GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis. A 70 % partial hepatectomy (PHx) model was established in Aqp5 mice to evaluate the pathological changes in the liver.

Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease, poses a significant burden on patients' quality of life and healthcare systems. While mild-to-moderate cases are treated topically, usually combined with phototherapy, severe cases require systemic treatment with immunosuppressants, retinoids or biologics. However, all available treatments have drawbacks in terms of efficiency and side effects.

Background Context: Stiffness-related functional disability (SRFD) is a well-known complication after long-segment fusion surgery. However, SRFD following decompression with short-segment fusion (1 or 2 levels) compared with decompression alone surgery in the lower lumbar region, which accounts for a significant portion of lumbar range of motion, is poorly documented.
Purpose: This study aimed to compare SRFD after decompression alone (D-A) surgery and decompression with short-segment fusion (D+F) surgery in the lower lumbar region.

The mechanisms underlying the low incidence of myopia at high altitudes remain unclear. Choroidal thickness and the dopaminergic system have been shown to be closely associated with myopia development. This study aimed to investigate the effects of high altitude exposure on choroidal thickness and the dopaminergic system.

Background: The gluteus medius and minimus muscles play a critical role in hip biomechanics, however there is a paucity of literature examining the impact of preoperative gluteal pathology on outcomes following total hip arthroplasty (THA). This study compared pain, satisfaction, and functional outcomes among patients who had and did not have preoperative gluteal pathology after direct anterior (DA) THA.
Methods: Using an institutional total joint registry, patients undergoing DA THA for osteoarthritis between 2010 and 2022 were retrospectively reviewed.

Bioelectrochemical systems (BES) as environmental remediation biotechnologies have boomed in the last two decades. Although BESs combined technologies with electro-chemistry, -biology, and -physics, microorganisms and biofilms remain at their core. In this review, various functional microorganisms in BESs for CO reduction, dehalogenation, nitrate, phosphate, and sulfate reduction, metal removal, and volatile organic compound oxidation are summarized and compared in detail.

Background: Zika virus (ZIKV) infection during pregnancy can lead to congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) and may result in neurodevelopmental alterations in exposed children, with and without CZS. This study aimed to evaluate ZIKV infection during pregnancy as a risk factor for early and long-term adverse outcomes.
Methods: This retrospective-prospective, matched cohort study was conducted in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil.

The pioneers of neurology in Japan were professors Hiroshi Kawahara and Kinnosuke Miura. Kawahara published the first description of progressive bulbar palsy and wrote the first neurology textbook in Japan. Miura, on the other hand, published studies about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, in addition to participating in the founding of the Japanese Society of Neurology.

Background: Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) is characterized by pulmonary vascular remodelling, often associated with disruption of BMPR2/Smad1/5 and BMPR2/PPAR-γ signalling pathways that ultimately lead to right ventricle failure. Disruption of intercellular junctions and communication and a pro-angiogenic environment are also characteristic features of PAH. Although, current therapies improve pulmonary vascular tone, they fail to tackle other key pathological features that could prevent disease progression.

The development of long-wavelength near-infrared II (NIR-II, 900-1700 nm) dyes is highly desirable but challenging. To achieve both red-shifted absorption/emission and superior imaging capabilities, a donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) xanthene core was strategically modified by extending π-conjugated double bonds and enhancing electron-donating properties. Two dyes named and were synthesized and exhibited notably red-shifted absorption/emission peaks at 942/1250 and 1098/1450 nm, respectively.

This article seeks to reveal the potential for applying key principles of Freirean pedagogy for the effective translation of knowledge and practices associated with the concept of health literacy followed worldwide, based on a critical and emancipatory perspective. It starts from the observation that the process of adopting the concept in Brazil has been more utilitarian than critical, with initiatives predominantly focused on the translation and use of instruments to assess health literacy among population groups. In doing so, this approach has overlooked the academic contributions, practical actors, and social movements in various regions of the country, regarding the application of principles and values of Paulo Freire's thought for the emancipatory promotion of health for individuals and population groups.
