Background/aim: The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) nomogram was developed to predict survivorship in gastric cancer patients undergoing R0 resection. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive power of this nomogram in the Turkish patient population.

Materials And Methods: Gastric cancer patients over 18 years of age who were admitted to our clinic between 2000 and 2019 and underwent primary curative surgery and R0 resection were included in the study.

Exploring the Role of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Predicting Outcomes for Hepatitis B Patients.

Background: Hepatitis B is a significant public health issue worldwide. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are pivotal in biological mechanisms. The involvement of lncRNAs in hepatitis Hepatitis B remains incompletely understood.

Assessment of dyslipidemia management in Turkey using a Delphi panel.

This study evaluated the management of dyslipidemia in Turkey with the goal of understanding current diagnosis and treatment patterns, as well as identifying unmet needs in achieving effective low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets. Using a Delphi panel consisting of nine expert cardiologists, the study reveals key gaps in dyslipidemia management, particularly in the underutilization of combination therapies, such as statins and PCSK9 inhibitors, which are crucial for achieving LDL-C targets in high-risk patients. The findings indicate that while many patients with very high cardiovascular risk are diagnosed, a significant proportion do not receive optimal treatment to reach LDL-C levels recommended by European guidelines.

A comparation of three different anti-VEGF drugs in development of persistent avascular retina in premature children.

Our current prospective cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the effect of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drugs used in the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity on retinal maturation and persistent avascular retina (PAR). Retinal imaging was performed with Optos confocal laser ophthalmoscopy for 100 patients aged 4 to 8 years who were screened and treated for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) during the neonatal period. The ROP examination findings (stage and zone) and treatment history (age in weeks at time of treatment and anti-VEGF drug used) from the neonatal period were reviewed.

Effects of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus on Fetal Cardiac Morphology.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the possible effects of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) on fetal heart structure and the relationship of this effect with maternal blood sugar control.

Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 19 women with GDM at 24-36 weeks of gestation (case group) and 21 healthy pregnant women at the same weeks of gestation (control group) were examined. Fetal heart structure was evaluated by ultrasonography; interventricular septum (IVS) thickness, right and left ventricular sphericity indices, global sphericity index (GSI) and cardio-thoracic ratio were also measured.

Analysis of ROMO1 Expression Levels and Its Oncogenic Role in Gastrointestinal Tract Cancers.

Gastrointestinal tract cancers account for approximately one-third of cancer-related deaths. Early diagnosis and effective treatment are the most important ways to prevent cancer-related morbidity and mortality. ROMO1 has been shown to play an important role in many types of cancer.

Childhood trauma can disrupt one's sense of the meaning of life. Forgiveness can be an important strategy in restoring the meaning of life and gaining a new meaning. In this context, the present study aims to test the theoretical model evaluating the hypothesis that forgiveness repairs the meaning of life deteriorated after traumas and makes positive contributions.

Clinicopathologic Characteristics of Breast Cancer Patients Who Had a Pathologic Complete Response after Neoadjuvant Treatment.

Aim: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and is a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. The role of neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) in conjunction with surgical intervention is becoming increasingly prominent in the field of oncology. NAT enhance the probability of breast-conserving surgery in cases of locally advanced breast cancer and in patients with metastatic or inoperable disease.

Proliferative Myositis of the Breast in a Patient with Contralateral Phyllodes Tumor: A Unique Pseudomalignant Lesion.

Aim: We report a case of proliferative myositis (PM) of the breast, which is the second reported in the English literature.

Case Presentation: A 49-year-old woman underwent surgery due to a fibroadenoma in the right and phyllodes tumor in the left breast. One month after these surgeries, a right breast mass rapidly grew at the surgical site, and biopsy did not provide a diagnosis.

Analysis of TSC1 and TSC2 genes and evaluation of phenotypic correlations with tuberous sclerosis.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by the formation of benign tumors in various organs, particularly in the central nervous system. We aimed to delineate the molecular profile of Turkish individuals diagnosed with TSC by analyzing the TSC1 and TSC2 genes using next-generation sequencing (NGS). Sophia Genetics' Sophia Inherited Disease Panel was used to perform NGS on 22 individuals diagnosed with TSC and to identify pathogenic variants in the TSC1 and TSC2 genes.

Profilin-1 levels in preeclampsia: Associations with disease and adverse neonatal outcomes.

Background: Preeclampsia is a serious pregnancy complication requiring early detection to improve outcomes. Profilin-1 (PFN1), linked to vascular dysfunction, may serve as a biomarker for diagnosing preeclampsia and predicting adverse neonatal outcomes. The aim of this study was to determine the serum Profilin-1 levels in patients diagnosed with preeclampsia and to investigate its association with disease severity and adverse neonatal outcomes.

Sex differences in clinical and polysomnographic features of obstructive sleep apnea: The Turkish sleep apnea database (TURKAPNE) cohort.

Background: Previous reports from relatively small clinical cohorts have suggested that the clinical presentation of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) differs between men and women.

Objective: We aimed to explore sex differences in clinical and polysomnographic features of OSA in a large nationwide registry.

Methods: Participants from the ongoing Turkish Sleep Apnea Database (TURKAPNE) Study from 34 centers were included in the current analysis.

Early detection of high blood pressure from natural speech sounds with graph diffusion network.

This study presents an innovative approach to cuffless blood pressure prediction by integrating speech and demographic features. With a focus on non-invasive monitoring, especially in remote regions, our model harnesses speech signals and demographic data to accurately estimate blood pressure. We found a strong correlation between our predictive model and early-stage high blood pressure, highlighting its potential for early detection.

Treatment Adherence, Internalised Stigma and Recovery Among Individuals Diagnosed With Schizophrenia in Eastern Turkey.

Introduction And Aim: This study aimed to assess the relationship between treatment adherence, internalised stigma, recovery and the mediating effect of internalised stigma on these relations in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Method: This study was conducted using a cross-sectional design. A purposive sample of 107 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia receiving psychiatric outpatient care at outpatient clinics and community mental health services (CMHC) affiliated with SBU Van research and education hospital was recruited for this study.

Prognostic value of HER2 2 + expression in patients with TNBC receiving adjuvant capecitabine.

Background: In triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients receiving adjuvant capecitabine, the impact of HER2 expression on survival outcomes is unclear.

Methods:  Between June 2017 and December 2023, 112 patients with TNBC who received adjuvant capecitabine due to residual masses after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in three hospitals were identified. HER2 is analyzed through immunohistochemistry (IHC) and/or in situ hybridization in the core biopsy and/or post-surgical histopathologies.

Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Dissection - A European Multicentre Cross-Sectional Evaluation.

Objectives: A multicentre European randomized control trial - European Uncomplicated Type B Aortic Repair (EU-TBAR) is being developed to compare pre-emptive TEVAR with custom-made devices vs conventional OMT. The pre-trial set-up is confluent on different pillars, including evaluation of 1) European activity, trends, and governance, 2) outcome reporting, and 3) cost evaluation. This article aimed to demonstrate the observational cross-sectional survey results from participating centres and highlight the risk assessment, activity, practices, and governance of uncomplicated type B aortic dissection (uTBAD).

Evaluation of pediatric spinal ependymomas: A 25-year retrospective observational study.

This study aims to evaluate the clinical and radiological features, histopathological characteristics, treatment modalities, and their effectiveness, as well as long-term follow-up results of pediatric spinal ependymomas treated at a single institution. In this retrospective study, medical records of 14 pediatric patients (3 females and 11 males) who were surgically treated for spinal ependymoma in our institution between 1995 and 2020 were reviewed. Data regarding age, gender, presenting symptoms and signs, radiological findings, postoperative status, extent of resection, histopathological grading, recurrence, tumor growth, seeding, and adjuvant treatment were collected and analyzed.

Measurement of thiol/disulfide homeostasis and ischemic modified albumin levels in patients with uterine leiomyomas.

Objective: The aim is to contrast the serum levels of thiol-disulfide homeostasis and ischemic modified albumin between patients with leiomyoma and healthy individuals and to assess the impact of oxidative stress on the etiopathogenesis of leiomyoma.

Methods: In this prospective case-control study, a total of 154 participants were included, consisting of 77 cases diagnosed with leiomyoma and 77 healthy individuals without leiomyoma. The demographic characteristics and ultrasonographic findings of the participants were recorded, and parameters such as albumin, ischemia-modified albumin, and thiol-disulfide homeostasis were evaluated.

THE EFFECT OF TAMSULOSIN ON IRIS MORPHOLOGY, CILIARY MUSCLE THICKNESS, AND PUPIL DIAMETER.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of tamsulosin on iris morphology, ciliary muscle thickness (CMT), pupil diameter (PD), and pupil responses to light using anterior segment optical coherence tomography and corneal topography.

Design: Prospective clinical before-and-after study METHODS: The right eyes of 43 patients with newly diagnosed benign prostatic hyperplasia were included in this study. Iris dilator muscle region (DMR) thickness, sphincter muscle region (SMR) thickness, DMR/SMR ratio, PD (scotopic, mesopic and photopic light conditions), CMT1(1 mm posterior to the scleral spur), CMT2(2 mm posterior to the scleral spur), CMT3(3 mm posterior to the scleral spur) and anterior chamber depth(ACD) were measured before and after dilation.

Clinical and genetic characteristics of patients with monocarboxylate transporter-8 deficiency: a multicentre retrospective study.

Unlabelled: Allan-Herndon-Dudley syndrome is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by motor and intellectual disabilities. Despite its rarity, there has been a rise in interest due to ongoing research and emerging therapy suggestions. In this multicenter, retrospective, cross-sectional study, the genetic characteristics and clinical data of twenty-one cases of genetically confirmed MCT8 deficiency were evaluated.

The effect of lean leadership on workload and job satisfaction: the moderating effect of workload and gender.

Purpose: The first aim of this study is to determine the effect of lean leadership on the workload and job satisfaction of healthcare workers, and the second aim is to reveal the moderating role of workload and employee gender in this relationship.

Design/methodology/approach: In this study, we created a comprehensive model to determine the effect of lean leadership on the workload and job satisfaction of healthcare employees and to reveal the moderating role of workload and employee gender in this relationship. We collected 1,207 valid questionnaires among Turkish health workers.

Comparison of the Cone Beam Computed Tomography-Based Analysis of the Masseter Muscle Between Epilepsy Patients and Healthy Subjects.

It is important to investigate the changes in the masseter muscle, one of the chewing muscles, in epilepsy patients and to determine whether epilepsy can be effectively predicted on muscle. The aim of this study is to measure masseter muscle thickness, circumference and cross-sectional area in individuals with epilepsy and healthy individuals. This study was performed with 128 individuals (64 epilepsy patients and 64 healthy subjects) aged between 18 to 59 years.

The role of radiotherapy in intracranial hemangiopericytoma/solitary fibrous tumors : A Turkish Society for Radiation Oncology Central Nervous System Tumors Group Study (TROD 07-008).

Objective: Intracranial hemangiopericytomas (HPC) are rare tumors. Radiotherapy (RT) is frequently performed after surgery, depending on tumor size, location, and the type of resection. Moreover, RT is preferred as an effective treatment for local recurrence and metastasis.
