Launched in 2022 at the Policlinique d'hématologie et d'immunologie (PHI) of the Centre hospitalier (CH) Saint-Louis, the therapeutic patient education (TPE) program for patients suffering from rare hematology pathologies is continuing to develop. It has led to the creation of an TPE team. To date, two workshops are up and running, and a third is nearing completion.

The Department of Hematology-Immunology, headed by Professor Jean-Hugues Dalle, is the leading department in France for the care of patients receiving pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplants. Since 2018, it has been a "major player" in the development of innovative treatments, such as gene therapy. To date, it is the only care service in France, which offers this treatment to stop the neurodegenerative progression of two genetic diseases, in collaboration with the neuropediatric service of the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital headed by Prof Kumaran Deiva, in conjunction with the national reference center for rare disaeses didicated to leucodystrophies.

With the rising incidence of sickle cell disease, this chronic pathology is becoming the most common genetic disease in France. Advances in care have led to a marked improvement in life expectancy. Caregivers in pediatric facilities are therefore increasingly confronted with the question of the transition to adulthood of the adolescents they have been following since birth.
