The Mediterranean region has long been identified as a climate change hotspot. However, within the Mediterranean, there are smaller sub-areas that exhibit a higher risk of climate change and extremes. Previous research has often focused on indices based on mean climate values, yet extremes are typically more impactful on humans and ecosystems.

Purpose: To translate and cross-cultural adapt the Anterior Cruciate Ligament-Return To Sport After Injury (ACL-RSI) questionnaire into Danish (ACL-RSI-DK) and evaluate the psychometric properties with the purpose to identify the psychological readiness on returning to sport (RTS).
Methods: The ACL-RSI-DK followed a six-step translation and cultural-adaptation process. Statistical analysis included correlation for construct validity of the ACL-R-DK with the Lysholm, KOOS and K-SES.

BackgroundLate HIV diagnosis (CD4+ T-cell count < 350 cells/μL, or with an AIDS-defining event) remains a persistent challenge in Greece, indicating potential missed opportunities (MOs) for earlier testing.AimTo determine the frequency of HIV indicator conditions (ICs) preceding diagnosis and to quantify MOs for earlier testing at a nationwide level in Greece.MethodsThis multicentre retrospective study analysed data on 823 antiretroviral therapy-naive adults (≥ 18 years) diagnosed with HIV during 2019-21.

Introduction: Bike tourism is one of the fast-developing alternative forms of tourism since it can satisfy the main pillars of sustainability (economic, social, and environmental). The current study is part of a larger funded project (GoBike) and aims to profile bike tourists in Greece, examine the motives and constraints to tourism participation, and show the value of using technology as a means of promoting bike tourism.
Methods: The data was collected through a quantitative study, with one hundred and five individuals who had experience with bike tourism activities, with the use of an online questionnaire.

Background One of the important factors affecting the biomechanics of the knee joint is the posterior tibial slope which is the tibial plateau's anatomical inclination toward the posterior of the sagittal plane. This inclination, which affects anterior-posterior stability, is important for the kinematics of the knee joint. Changes in the tibial slope may cause a deficit in the stability and function of the knee joint.

In total, 948,165 cattle were tested by EU27 and XI (-3%, compared with 2022), with five atypical BSE cases reported (four H-type: two in Spain, one in France and one in Ireland; one L-type in the Netherlands); and 46,096 cattle by eight non-EU reporting countries with two atypical BSE cases reported by Switzerland. Three additional atypical BSE cases were reported by UK (1), USA (1) and Brazil (1).

The most prominent and persistent feature of the eastern Mediterranean Levantine Basin (LB) is the warm anticyclonic Cyprus Eddy (CE) located above the Eratosthenes Seamount (ESM). This eddy periodically couples with two smaller cyclonic and anticyclonic eddies, the South Shikmona Eddy (SSE) and North Shikmona Eddy (NSE), which form downstream. The reason for the zonal drift of the CE center and the formation mechanism of the CE, SSE and NSE is largely debated today, yet the upwelling and biological productivity of the LB can be strongly impacted by the local dynamics.

Background And Objective: Up to 50% of patients with prostate cancer experience prostate-specific antigen (PSA) relapse following primary radical prostatectomy (RP). Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography (PET) is increasingly being used for staging after RP owing to its high detection rate. Our aim was to compare outcomes for patients who received salvage radiotherapy (sRT) with versus without PSMA PET guidance.

Purpose: The purpose of this review is to explore the molecular foundations of ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN), focusing on the genetic and epigenetic aspects. While current management strategies include surgical excision and medical therapies, the understanding of OSSN's molecular basis remains limited, hindering the development of targeted treatments.
Methods: A comprehensive MEDLINE search was conducted for literature published between January 1993 and October 2023.

This editorial highlights the limitations of relying solely on pure-tone audiometry for diagnosing and managing hearing loss, particularly in the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology. While pure-tone audiometry has long been the gold standard for assessing hearing sensitivity, its capacity to fully capture the complexities of hearing impairments is increasingly called into question. The article examines the profound impact of hearing loss on language development, psychosocial well-being, and quality of life, especially in infants and toddlers, who are at risk of significant delays in speech and language development.

Diamond-Blackfan anemia syndrome (DBAS) is a rare inherited bone marrow failure (BMF) syndrome characterized by erythroid aplasia, congenital malformations, and cancer predisposition. With its genetic heterogeneity, variable penetrance and expressivity, DBAS poses significant diagnostic challenges, necessitating advancements in genetic testing for improved accuracy. Here, we present the case of an 18-year-old male with a long-standing macrocytic anemia that remained undiagnosed despite standard whole exome sequencing (WES).

The geospatial dataset presented in this manuscript, represents elements of the historical, natural, political and cultural environment of Cyprus, as it was recorded by British officials during the early years (1878-1883) of their administration on the island. The data were derived from Horatio Herbert Kitchener's map of Cyprus, published in 1885 in 15 sheets, at a scale of 1:63 360 (1 inch to 1 mile), which is considered a milestone in the cartography of the island. The geospatial layers were extracted my manual on-screen digitization of the geographic features depicted on the georeferenced seamless mosaic created by the individual sheets (Chalkias et al.

Pancreatic cancer remains one of the most lethal malignancies, with limited treatment options and poor prognosis. A common characteristic among pancreatic cancer patients is the biomechanically altered tumor microenvironment (TME), which among others is responsible for the elevated mechanical stresses in the tumor interior. Although significant research has elucidated the effect of mechanical stress on cancer cell proliferation and migration, it has not yet been investigated how it could affect cancer cell drug sensitivity.

Background: Longitudinal studies investigating hormone therapy in transgender individuals are rare and often limited to 1- to 2-year follow-up periods.
Objectives And Methods: We examined changes in body composition, muscle volumes, and fat distribution as well as muscle strength, arterial stiffness, and cardiometabolic biomarkers in both transgender men (TM; n = 17, age 25 ± 5 years) and transgender women (TW; n = 16, age 28 ± 5 years) at baseline and after 1 and 5-6 years of hormone therapy in a longitudinal prospective cohort design. Whole-body and regional fat and muscle volumes were analyzed using magnetic resonance imaging, and blood samples were taken.

Ocean-emitted dimethyl sulfide (DMS) is a major source of climate-cooling aerosols. However, most of the marine biogenic sulfur cycling is not routed to DMS but to methanethiol (MeSH), another volatile whose reactivity has hitherto hampered measurements. Therefore, the global emissions and climate impact of MeSH remain unexplored.

Due to the trend toward delayed childbearing, many women of reproductive age are being diagnosed with breast cancer and treated with chemotherapy or hormone therapy which can adversely affect their fertility. This literature review discusses the effects of breast cancer treatment on fertility and options for fertility preservation.
