Menopause affects over a million individuals annually and is characterized by variable and declining ovarian hormones. Decreasing estrogen levels impact energy homeostasis and increases the risk of metabolic disorders. Energy expenditure is largely directed towards thermoregulation, which is modulated in part by estrogen receptor (ER) α expressing neurons in the hypothalamus.

Cardiotoxicity as a result of cancer treatment contributes to autonomic dysfunction and decreased cardiorespiratory fitness among cancer survivors. These deleterious cardiovascular outcomes reduce the survival prognosis for cancer patients and contribute to poor quality of life among survivors. Exercise interventions have been shown as effective in mitigating treatment-related side effects.

Globally, soils store two to three times as much carbon as currently resides in the atmosphere, and it is critical to understand how soil greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and uptake will respond to ongoing climate change. In particular, the soil-to-atmosphere CO flux, commonly though imprecisely termed soil respiration (R ), is one of the largest carbon fluxes in the Earth system. An increasing number of high-frequency R measurements (typically, from an automated system with hourly sampling) have been made over the last two decades; an increasing number of methane measurements are being made with such systems as well.

Promoting the health of the host and creating an environment to foster natural healing processes is essential for helping to restore skin integrity. Normal wound healing physiologic processes, factors affecting wound healing, wound classification systems, unique characteristics of orthopaedic wounds, wound contamination and drainage characteristics, and potential complications are important to understand in anticipation of patient needs.
