Molecular dynamics simulations are performed to investigate the influence of isotope substitutions on the Eley-Rideal recombination dynamics of hydrogen isotopes from the (100) and (110) surfaces of tungsten. Dissipation of electrons and phonons is taken into account by, respectively, the local density friction approximation and the general Langevin oscillator, effective models which have been intensively used in recent years. As the coupling to surface phonons and electrons might be altered by the mass combination, the main objective of the paper is to assess the role of dissipation to the surface in the course of abstraction.

Keyhole limpet haemocyanins (KLH1 and KLH2) from , are multi-subunit oxygen-carrying metalloproteins of approximately 3900 amino acids, that are widely used as carrier proteins in conjugate vaccines and in immunotherapy. KLHs and their derived conjugate vaccines are poorly characterized by LC-MS/MS due to their very stable supramolecular structures with megadalton molecular mass, and their resistance to efficient digestion with standard protocols. KLH1 and KLH2 proteins were conjugated to the conserved P0 peptide (pP0), derived from the P0 acidic ribosomal protein of sp.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has emerged as an essential tool for exploring human brain function. Submillimeter fMRI, in particular, has emerged as a tool to study mesoscopic computations. The inherently low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) at submillimeter resolutions warrants the use of denoising approaches tailored at reducing thermal noise-the dominant contributing noise component in high-resolution fMRI.

Unlabelled: The immune system plays a central role in controlling acute hepatitis B infection and in patients resolving chronic hepatitis B (CHB). Given that 221 million (75%) of CHB patients reside in low- and middle-income countries, the development of a vaccine with therapeutic properties represents a rational and cost-effective approach more than a romantic endeavor. This review systematically analyzes the key variables related to the safety, efficacy, and effectiveness of CHB treatments.

Photoplethysmography is a widely used optical technique to extract physiological information non-invasively. Despite its large use and adoption, multiple factors influence the signal shape and quality, including the instrumentation used. This work analyzes the variability of the DC component of the PPG signal at three source-detector distances (6 mm, 9 mm, and 12 mm) using green, red, and infrared light and four photodiodes per distance.

The biomethanization of lignocellulosic wastes remains an inefficient and complex process due to lignin structures that hinder the hydrolysis step, therefore, some treatments are required. This work describes the addition of an enriched microbial consortium in the biomethanization of rice straw. The experiment was carried out in lab batch reactors following two strategies: (i) pretreatment of rice straw for 48 h using the enriched microbial consortium (dilution 1:100), and (ii) addition of this enriched microbial consortium (dilution 1:100) directly to the anaerobic reactors (bioaugmentation).

Islands are well known for their unique biodiversity and significance in evolutionary and ecological studies. Nevertheless, the extinction of island species accounts for most human-caused extinctions in recent time scales, which have accelerated in recent centuries. Pigeons and doves (Columbidae) are noteworthy for the high number of island endemics, as well as for the risks those species have faced since human arrival.

Although urbanization is a major threat to biodiversity, some native species have managed to persist in urban areas. Populations of such species often show phenotypic differences with their rural counterparts. A crucial question is whether such differences result from different selection regimes between habitats.

SARS-CoV-2 has continued spreading around the world in recent years since the initial outbreak in 2019, frequently developing into new variants with greater human infectious capacity. SARS-CoV-2 and its mutants use the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) as a cellular entry receptor, which has triggered several therapeutic strategies against COVID-19 relying on the use of ACE2 recombinant proteins as decoy receptors. In this work, we propose an ACE2 silent Fc fusion protein (ACE2-hFcLALA) as a candidate therapy against COVID-19.
