Context: This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of early surgical excision of the traumatic myositis ossificans of the vastus intermedius muscle in an elite football player and return to sports activity within 3 months from the initial injury.
Case Presentation: A 27-year-old male professional football player presented with progressive pain and loss of range of motion after sustaining a severe, right quadriceps contusion 4 weeks earlier. After unsuccessful conservative therapy, the differential diagnosis of myositis ossificans was suspected and confirmed on radiographic examination.

Unlabelled: Greater empirical and scientific attention is still put on patients with left brain hemisphere (LBH) damage where language impairments are common and expected. In patients with RBH damage, language assessment is therefore rarely done in the acute phase of stroke recovery.
Purpose: To investigate language impairments in the acute phase of stroke using a Croatian standardized language battery for the first time and compare patients with RBH stroke, LBH stroke and healthy individuals.

Biological invasions are a major threat to biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and nature's contributions to people worldwide. However, the effectiveness of invasive alien species (IAS) management measures and the progress toward achieving biodiversity targets remain uncertain due to limited and nonuniform data availability. Management success is usually assessed at a local level and documented in technical reports, often written in languages other than English, which makes such data notoriously difficult to collect at large geographic scales.

Background: Illness severity, comorbidity, fever, age and symptom duration influence antibiotic prescribing for respiratory tract infections (RTI). Non-medical determinants, such as patient expectations, also impact prescribing.
Aim: To quantify the effect of general practitioners' (GPs') perception of a patient request for antibiotics on antibiotic prescribing for RTI and investigate effect modification by medical determinants and country.
Background: Initial clinical studies of pulsed field ablation (PFA) to treat atrial fibrillation (AF) indicated a >90% durability rate of pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). However, these studies were largely conducted in single centers and involved a limited number of operators. The electrophysiological findings and outcomes in patients undergoing repeat ablation after an initial PF ablation for AF are incompletely understood.

A novel mechanochemical approach is described for chloride-templated head-to-tail macrocyclization of a pentapeptide and a hexapeptide. This straightforward method allows the solvent-free preparation of cyclopeptides with yields comparable to solution-based approaches without the need for high dilution of the reaction mixture and with significantly reduced reaction times and organic waste amount.

Significance: Machine learning models for the direct extraction of tissue parameters from hyperspectral images have been extensively researched recently, as they represent a faster alternative to the well-known iterative methods such as inverse Monte Carlo and inverse adding-doubling (IAD).
Aim: We aim to develop a Bayesian neural network model for robust prediction of physiological parameters from hyperspectral images.
Approach: We propose a two-component system for extracting physiological parameters from hyperspectral images.

Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) have served as essential antimicrobial agents for nearly a century due to their rapid membrane-disrupting action. However, the emergence of bacterial resistance and environmental concerns have driven interest in alternative designs, such as "soft QACs", which are designed for enhanced biodegradability and reduced resistance potential. In this study, we explored the antibacterial properties and mechanisms of action of our newly synthesized soft QACs containing a labile amide bond within a quinuclidine scaffold.

Background: Prevalence of potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) in adult patients with severe asthma on biological therapy and their clinical significance have not been fully addressed, thus the aim of this study was to investigate them.
Methods: In this retrospective observational study, patients who were diagnosed with severe asthma and to whom biological therapy was prescribed between September 2015 and December 2020, were enrolled. The study was conducted at the Department of Allergic and Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases, Clinic for Lung Diseases Jordanovac, Clinical Hospital Center Zagreb.

The diagnostic and therapeutic approach to the axilla in breast cancer patients has changed significantly over the past 30 years, with the replacement of complete axillary lymph node dissection practices by less invasive approaches. Reference is made to clinical findings that have led to practical treatment recommendations and are paving the way to new levels of de-escalation in breast cancer surgery.

The accurate quantification of multicomponents using LC-MS is pivotal for ensuring the quality control of herbal medicine, as well as the investigation of their analysis of biological tissue distribution. However, two significant challenges persist: the scarcity of authentic standards and the selection of appropriate internal standards. In this study, we present a highly sensitive isotope-coded equivalent reporter ion assay (iERIA) that combines equivalently quantitative ion and isotope-coded derivatization strategies.

Dry eye disease is a multifactorial condition characterized by a loss of homeostasis of the tear film. Among the various treatment approaches, the application of ophthalmic oil-in-water nanoemulsions with incorporated anti-inflammatory drugs represents one of the most advanced approaches. However, the liquid nature of nanoemulsions limits their retention time at the ocular surface.

The Drosophila visual system is a powerful model to study the development of neural circuits. Lobula columnar neurons-LCNs are visual output neurons that encode visual features relevant to natural behavior. There are ~20 classes of LCNs forming non-overlapping synaptic optic glomeruli in the brain.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the compliance of dentists in Croatia and the Czech Republic with endodontic recommendations and identify the subjective and objective factors influencing their adherence to them.
Methodology: A total of 1386 dentists from Croatia and the Czech Republic participated in an online survey through a self-administered, author-designed questionnaire. After excluding those who did not perform root canal treatments (RCT), 1376 responses (394 from Croatia and 982 from the Czech Republic) were statistically analysed.

Numerous studies reported about potential effects of L-carnosine in regulation of tumor growth and metabolism. We evaluated the effects of different concentrations of L-carnosine from supplement on mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes of human embryo lung fibroblasts (MRC-5) and human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), with different energy pathways. Also, we analyzed the proliferation index and expression of various markers of oxidative stress.

It is generally accepted that intraocular pressure (IOP) depends on the rate of aqueous humor production, system outflow resistance, and episcleral venous pressure. Therefore, control IOP values are expected to be within the strict and predictable limits in specific animal species, and there should be no vast differences between species. However, in the literature the control IOP values significantly vary (from potentially "hypotensive" to "hypertensive") within the same species, and especially between species depending on the measurement technique, head position in relation to the rest of the body, circadian rhythm, age, and topical and systemic drugs (anesthetics) applied.

Aim: To ascertain whether Croatian respondents' knowledge on pain aligns with modern pain science, and determine the measurement properties of the Croatian version of the Concept of Pain Inventory for Adults (COPI-Adult).
Methods: A cross-sectional, online survey was used to collect the respondents' sociodemographic, clinical, and COPI-Adult (CRO) data (n = 509). A Pearson correlation coefficient test was used to assess the correlations between sociodemographic, clinical, and COPI-Adult (CRO) data.
