Introduction: Non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) levels can increase the cardiometabolic risk factors in patients with hypothyroidism, but the findings across studies have not been consistently conclusive. The aim of this study was to find the association between non-HDL-C and cardiometabolic risk factors in patients with hypothyroidism.
Material And Methods: In this case-control study, a total of 120 subjects among which 60 diagnosed hypothyroidism patients and 60 age-matched healthy controls were enrolled, aged 30-65 years.

Pyrexia of unknown origin (PUO) is a prolonged fever lasting several weeks without an identifiable cause despite extensive medical evaluation. Many a time, its cause remains largely unknown even after collecting a detailed medical history, conducting comprehensive physical assessments, and performing various standard laboratory tests and imaging procedures. This case series presents two cases of pyrexia of unknown origin.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES), the second most prevalent malignant osseous tumor in children and adolescents, primarily affects the extremities' long bones and pelvic region. Characterized by its aggressive growth, ES often presents with symptoms like swelling, pain, and neurological deficits, impacting various skeletal sites. ES involving the spine, particularly the sacral region, poses a significant challenge due to its rarity, aggressive nature, and limited sensitivity to treatments.

The life expectancy of people living with HIV (PLWH) has greatly increased due to advancements in combination antiretroviral treatment (cART). However, this longer life has also increased the prevalence of age-related comorbidities, such as frailty, which now manifest sooner in this group. Frailty, a term coined by the insurance industry, has been broadened to include physical, cognitive, and emotional elements and has been recognized as a critical predictor of negative health outcomes.

Left ventricular non-compaction cardiomyopathy, often known as LVNC, is a form of congenital cardiomyopathy that is extremely uncommon. It is a condition that may be identified by an elevated number of endomyocardial trabeculations as well as an increase in their prominence. Alcoholic cardiomyopathy, also known as ACM, is a non-ischemic form of dilated cardiomyopathy that is characterized by contractile failure and an enlargement of the heart ventricles.

Unlike pediatric cases, adult intussusception is primarily associated with pathologic diseases acting as lead points, often requiring surgical intervention. We present a case of an 84-year-old male with a medical history significant for multiple comorbidities, who was diagnosed with a large segment jejunojejunal intussusception resulting in small bowel obstruction.

A new pediatric fixed combination of beclometasone dipropionate (BDP) 50 μg and formoterol fumarate (FF) 6 μg via pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI) (CHF1535, Chiesi, Italy) was investigated. In a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, cross-over study, a single CHF1535 administration using AeroChamber Plus™ spacer device (2 actuations, total dose BDP 100 μg/FF 12 μg) was compared to the same pMDI free combination in 56 asthmatic children aged ≥ 5 and < 12 years. Primary efficacy variable was forced expiratory volume during the first second (FEV) area under the curve corrected by time over 12 h following morning dose (AUC).

Objectives: Olfaction is frequently impaired in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and often improves after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). Data about dynamics of olfactory changes after ESS are lacking, and little information is available concerning whether preoperatively administered glucocorticosteroids predict postoperative olfaction. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine dynamics of olfaction after ESS in relation to the effect of preoperative administration of glucocorticosteroids in CRSwNP.

Background: The application of an exogenous pulmonary surfactant as a carrier for intratracheally administered antimicrobials represents a promising therapeutic modality that is still on its way to clinical practice. Owing to its ability to decrease surface tension, exogenous surfactant may enhance delivery of antibiotics into foci of pulmonary infection, thus increasing efficiency and safety of topical antimicrobial therapy in bacterial lung diseases.
Objectives: To assess potential interactions between exogenous surfactant and amikacin in vitro, and to study the effects of their joint intratracheal instillation in rats with acute pneumonia caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

We studied biological effects of xenogenic cerebrospinal fluid. Injection of the liquor to albino female rats during different periods of postnatal ontogeny induced changes in the dynamics of estrous cycles. Changes in the picture of vaginal smears, duration of estrous cycles, and proportion between their phases were found.

Although the success of compliant walls in mimicking dolphin skin is well known, the drag-reducing properties of a dolphin's skin are still unclear. Moreover, little is known about the relation between the 3D structure of the skin and the local flow conditions. To study the role of a dolphin's skin in reducing the drag the skin morphology parameters were compared with the parameters of an anisotropic compliant wall and a possible flow-skin interface was considered.

The correlation between skin structure and hydrodynamic design of the dorsal fin of the harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) was examined. For the study of fin morphology and geometry, a scheme of sampling representing a two-parameter mesh on the fin surface was used. At each data point the thickness of the epidermis, papillary and subpapillary layers of the dermis, the ligamentous layer of the fin, as well as the angle formed by the direction of dermal ridges and the fin root chord were measured.

It was shown, that melittin caused the multiple growth of the interaction of C1q with IgG monoclonal antibody. We assume, that the appearance of melittin in blood causes the spontaneous antigen-independent aggregation of IgG and C1q with the following triggering of the classical pathway of the complement cascade and origin of C3a and C5a components.
