The present study was aimed to develop silybin phytosome (SIBP) and evaluate its effectiveness against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (CIR) injury in rats. Initially, SIBP was prepared and characterized with Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and scanning electron microscopy. Drug loading and entrapment efficiency of SIBP were also calculated.

This study involved cerebroprotective potential of aloe emodin (AE) by molecular docking analysis against various cerebrotoxic proteins followed by activity on multiple occlusions and reperfusion of bilateral carotid arteries (MO/RCA) induced cerebral injury in experimental rats. Molecular docking studies were carried out to evaluate the binding affinity (or binding interaction) between AE and various proteins involved in apoptosis such as caspase-3 (CASP3) and Bcl-2-associated X protein (BAX), and proteins involved in inflammation such as interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF α), nitric oxide synthase (NOS), acid-sensing ion channel (ASIC) and glutamate receptor (GR) involved in cerebral stroke, and results were compared with that of standard drugs, minocycline, quercetin, and memantine. Cerebral ischemic reperfusion induced by MO/RCA was assessed for 10 mins reperfusion period as one cycle, and the experiment was conducted for up to 3 cycles in rats.

Cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (C I/R) accelerates neuronal injury through the overproduction of reactive oxygen species due to mitochondrial dysfunction. Hesperidin has cerebroprotective effects due to its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic nature against oxidative damage caused by C I/R. The blood-brain barrier also limits the hesperidin passage into the cerebral region due to its poor bioavailability.

Aim: Evaluation of hepatoprotective effect of ethyl methyl ketone and methanol sub-fractions obtained from methanol fraction of total methanol extract (ME) was carried out both in vivo and in vitro using paracetamol-induced toxicity.
Settings And Design: Hepatoprotective activity in vivo was assessed by determining the serum levels of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic pyruvic transaminase (GPT), alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, total cholesterol, total protein (TPTN), and albumin in serum. The studies were supported by histopathological examination of liver sections.

Aim: The objective of the present study was to determine the total phenolic and total flavonoid contents, and to evaluate the antioxidant potential of different leaf extracts of Meyna spinosa Roxb. ex Link, a traditional medicinal plant of India.
Methods: Free radical scavenging and antioxidant potential of the methanol, ethyl acetate, and petroleum ether extracts of Meyna spinosa leaves were investigated using several in vitro and ex vivo assays, including the 2, 2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging, superoxide anion scavenging, hydroxyl radical scavenging, nitric oxide radical scavenging, hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity, metal chelating assay, and reducing power ability method.
