Organelles such as mitochondria, lysosomes, peroxisomes, and the endoplasmic reticulum form highly dynamic cellular networks and exchange information through sites of physical contact. While each organelle performs unique functions, this inter-organelle crosstalk helps maintain cell homeostasis. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a devastating blinding disease strongly associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and decreased clearance of cellular debris in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE).

: Alterations in glycolipid and glycosphingolipid pathways lead to compromised cell membranes and may be involved in cataract formation. However, the exact role of glycolipids in lens opacification is not completely understood. The aim of the current study is to investigate proteome complexity and the role of glycolipid and glycosphingolipid pathways in cataract formation.

Introduction: In contrast with patients receiving therapy for retinal disease during clinical trials, those treated in routine clinical practice experience various challenges (including administrative, clinic, social, and patient-related factors) that can often result in high patient and clinic burden, and contribute to suboptimal visual outcomes. The objective of this study was to understand the challenges associated with clinical management of diabetic macular edema from the perspectives of patients, healthcare providers, and clinic staff, and identify opportunities to improve eye care for people with diabetes.
Methods: We conducted a survey of patients with diabetic macular edema, providers, and clinic staff in 78 clinics across 24 countries on six continents, representing a diverse range of individuals, healthcare systems, settings, and reimbursement models.

Background: Small Descemet membrane detachments after cataract surgery are relatively common and most cases do not require any secondary surgical intervention and can be treated conservatively. However, in case of advanced Descemet membrane detachment (DMD), it needs to be recognized and treated appropriately. The advent of anterior segment imaging using optical coherence tomography (OCT) technology has made diagnosing pathologies of the anterior segment accurate and time efficient and has proven as an invaluable tool to guide decision making.

We present deep-ultraviolet Fourier ptychography (DUV-FP) for high-resolution chemical imaging of biological specimens in their native state without exogenous stains. This approach uses a customized 265-nm DUV LED array for angle-varied illumination, leveraging the unique DUV absorption properties of biomolecules at this wavelength region. We implemented a robust feature-domain optimization framework to overcome common challenges in Fourier ptychographic reconstruction, including vignetting, pupil aberrations, stray light problems, intensity variations, and other systematic errors.

Objectives: Numerous laser and light therapies have been developed to induce regenerative processes in the choroid/retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)/photoreceptor complex, leaving the neuroretina undamaged. These therapies are applied to the macula for the treatment of various diseases, most prominently diabetic maculopathy, retinal vein occlusion, central serous chorioretinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration. However, the abundance of technologies, treatment patterns, and dosimetry protocols has made understanding these therapies and comparing different approaches increasingly complex and challenging.
