The coexistence of invasive stratified mucin-producing carcinoma, mucinous carcinoma and non-specific type and squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix: a case report.

Located in the uterine cervix, cervical invasive stratified mucin-producing carcinoma (i-SMILE) is a rare, recently-identified tumor about which little is known. In extremely rare cases, other kinds of invasive carcinoma can accompany i-SMILE, such as squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma, with different proportions. Here, we report a case of cervical carcinoma coexisting with i-SMILE, mucinous carcinoma, non-specific type (NOS), and SCC.

Increase of fallopian tube and decrease of ovarian carcinoma: fact or fake?

Purpose: Accurate disease classification is fundamental for the selection of the treatment approach, prognostication, selection of clinical trials and for research purposes in routine clinical practice. Extrauterine high-grade serous carcinoma (HG-SC) may arise from the ovary, the fallopian tube and rarely from the peritoneal surface epithelium. Regardless of its origin, the vast majority of patients with HG-SC share clinical symptoms, present with advanced stage disease and suffer from a poor prognosis.

Rosmarinic acid (RA) is extensively utilized in herbal medicine in China. The AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling can be activated by RA and inhibited by the synthetic, reversible AMP-competitive inhibitor, Compound C (CC). The objective of this study was to investigate the role of AMPK signaling involving the protective effects of RA on concanavalin A (Con A)-induced autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) in mice.

Eosinophilic Esophagitis: Diagnosis and Current Management.

Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is an eosinophil-rich, Th2 antigen-mediated disease of increasing worldwide prevalence. Originally considered common in children and young adults, it can be seen at any age, with the highest prevalence between 30 and 40 years. Symptoms reflect esophageal dysfunction, and typical endoscopic pictures consist of rings, furrows, exudates and edema.

A case of multiple Vertebrobasilar artery fenestration misdiagnosed as vertebral artery dissection.

Background: Fenestration of vertebra-basilar artery is an uncommon congenital vascular anomaly, which is identified by incidental findings on imaging in patients presented without related symptoms or in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage secondary to concomitant artery aneurysm or arteriovenous malformations. Yet, cases of fenestration being misdiagnosed as cerebral artery dissection have never been reported.

Effect of timing of umbilical cord clamping and other strategies to influence placental transfusion at preterm birth on maternal and infant outcomes.

Background: Infants born preterm (before 37 weeks' gestation) have poorer outcomes than infants at term, particularly if born before 32 weeks. Early cord clamping has been standard practice over many years, and enables quick transfer of the infant to neonatal care. Delayed clamping allows blood flow between the placenta, umbilical cord and baby to continue, and may aid transition.

Population aging is a challenge, therefore efficient frailty screening has been increasingly emphasized for mass older populations. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of social frailty and its association with physical frailty, geriatric syndromes and activity of daily living (ADL) disability in community-dwelling older adults. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 408 older adults (mean age, 75 years; 58% female) in the Aging Study of PyeongChang Rural Area.

An email triage model for personalising paediatric permanent tooth extractions under general anaesthesia.

It is important that dental extractions under general anaesthesia (GA) are planned appropriately to avoid a repeat GA in the future. Current guidelines recommend the input of an orthodontist when the treatment plan involves a permanent tooth extraction but the number of children undergoing GA extractions makes this challenging. A model has been developed where the records of children planned for GA extraction of permanent teeth are triaged, via secure email, by an orthodontist.

Survey of UK histopathology consultants' attitudes towards academic and molecular pathology.

Objective: Academic pathology is facing a crisis; an ongoing decline in academic pathology posts, a paucity of academic pathologist's in-training and unfilled posts at a time when cellular pathology departments are challenged to deliver increasing numbers of molecular tests. The National Cancer Research Institute initiative in Cellular & Molecular Pathology commissioned a survey to assess attitudes of cellular pathology consultants towards research in order to understand barriers and identify possible solutions to improve this situation. As cellular pathology is encompassing an increasing number of diagnostic molecular tests, we also surveyed the current approach to and extent of training in molecular pathology.

Therapy Side Effects in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus.

Glucosteroids (GS) are widely used drugs for various inflammatory pathologies (Nephrotic syndrome, Proliferative glomerulonephritis, Extramembrane glomerulonephritis, Nephropathy of the Nodous Poliarterita (PAN), Nephropathy from purple Henoch-Schonlein, lupus nephropathy (LN), Acute adrenal insufficiency Waterhouse-Friederichsen, Chronic adrenal insufficiency Addison, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Polymyositis and dermatomyositis, Chronic granulomatosis, Crohn's disease, Hemorrhagic rectocolitis, Hemolytic anemias, Acute leukemias and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma). Although they are prescribed for their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, they also have many side effects, hyperglycemia being one of the most common and representative, which is why these drugs need careful monitoring when administered over the long term. This paper presents the case of a 39 year old patient diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with class IV lupus nephropathy (LN) who developed numerous complications due to the pathogenic side effects: diabetes, amenorrhea, recurrent infections, and depression.

Background: Human MARCH5 is a mitochondrial localized E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase that is critical for the regulation of mitochondrial dynamics. A body of evidence has indicated the close links between unbalanced mitochondrial dynamics and cancers. Impact of a Wearable Device-Based Walking Programs in Rural Older Adults on Physical Activity and Health Outcomes: Cohort Study.

Background: Community-dwelling older adults living in rural areas are in a less favorable environment for health care compared with urban older adults. We believe that intermittent coaching through wearable devices can help optimize health care for older adults in medically limited environments.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate whether a wearable device and mobile-based intermittent coaching or self-management could increase physical activity and health outcomes of small groups of older adults in rural areas.

Radiologic features in symptomatic/asymptomatic heels of patients with ankylosing spondylitis.

Aim: Most heel pain occurs at the posterior or plantar aspect, where main entheses of the heel are located. However, simple radiographs as basic work-up tools, their features based on their association with local symptoms in the heel in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients, have rarely been described.

Method: Forty patients with AS and unilateral heel pain were enrolled to evaluate radiographic differences between symptomatic and asymptomatic heels.

Indocyanine green fluorescence angiography: a new ERAS item.

ERAS protocol and indocyanine green fluorescence angiography (ICG-FA) represent the new surgical revolution minimizing complications and shortening recovery time in colorectal surgery. As of today, no studies have been published in the literature evaluating the impact of the ICG-FA in the ERAS protocol for the patients suitable for colorectal surgery. The aim of our study was to assess whether the systematic evaluation of intestinal perfusion by ICG-FA could improve patients outcomes when managed with ERAS perioperative protocol, thus reducing surgical complication rate.
