Time perspective profile and self-reported health on the EQ-5D.

Qual Life Res

January 2024

Section Medical Psychology and Psychotherapy, Department of Psychiatry, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Objectives: Time perspective (TP) is a psychological construct that is associated with several health-related behaviours, including healthy eating, smoking and adherence to medications. In this study, we aimed to examine the associations of TP profile with self-reported health on the EQ-5D-5L and to detect which domains display response heterogeneity (cut-point shift) for TP.

Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of EQ-5D-5L data from a representative general population sample in Hungary (n = 996).

This paper examines the effect of spectators on women's football games. COVID-19 and related restrictions provide a unique opportunity with an adequate sample size to test the effect of lockdown on sports activities. Studies have recently exploited this opportunity for men's football to better understand the potential causes of home advantage and, more specifically, assess the psychological consequences when matches are played without supporters.

Sci Rep

August 2023

Laboratory for Networks, Technology and Innovation Corvinus Institute for Advanced Studies, Corvinus University of Budapest, Budapest, Hungary.

Several studies have highlighted the potential contribution of gender diversity to creativity, also noted challenges stemming from conflicts and a deficit of trust. Thus, we argue that gender diversity requires inclusion as well to see increased collective creativity. We analyzed teams in 4011 video game projects, recording weighted network data from past collaborations.

Measuring efficiency and effectiveness of knowledge transfer in e-learning.

Heliyon

July 2023

Corvinus University of Budapest, Department of Infocommunication, Fővám tér 8., Budapest, 1093, Hungary.

With e-learning rapidly gaining popularity, evaluating its effectiveness and efficiency has become a challenge in public education, the public sector, and the corporate sector. Measuring knowledge transfer is crucial in any learning process, but e-learning lacks validated methods for this. Here we examine ways to evaluate that particularly in case of e-learning, conducting a literature review to assess available measurement solutions, developing an evaluation method for knowledge transfer, and validating the method.

Organisational factors associated with hospital costs and patient mortality in the 365 days following hip fracture in England and Wales (REDUCE): a record-linkage cohort study.

Lancet Healthy Longev

August 2023

Musculoskeletal Research Unit, Translational Health Sciences, Bristol Medical School, University of Bristol, Bristol, UK; Older People's Unit, Royal United Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Bath, Bath, UK.

Methods: REDUCE was a record-linkage cohort study in which national databases for all patients aged 60 years and older who sustained a hip fracture in England and Wales were linked with hospital metrics from 18 organisational data sources.

The first purpose of this paper is to propose a theoretically new robust filter method to estimate non-observable macroeconomic indicators. The second purpose is to apply the proposed method to estimate the Hungarian potential GDP in 2000-2021. The novelty of the proposed filter method is that - unlike papers published so far - it does not require the stability of the dynamic model, only a partial stability condition must be satisfied.

Digital traces of brain drain: developers during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

EPJ Data Sci

May 2023

Budapest, Hungary Institute for Data Analytics and Information Systems, Corvinus University of Budapest.

Unlabelled: The Russian invasion of Ukraine has caused large scale destruction, significant loss of life, and the displacement of millions of people. Besides those fleeing direct conflict in Ukraine, many individuals in Russia are also thought to have moved to third countries. In particular the exodus of skilled human capital, sometimes called brain drain, out of Russia may have a significant effect on the course of the war and the Russian economy in the long run.

Sir Walter Murdoch School of Public Policy and International Affairs, Murdoch University, Perth, WA, Australia.

Worldwide, social healthcare systems must face the challenges of a growing scarcity of resources and of its inevitable distributional effects. Explicit criteria are needed to define the boundaries of public reimbursement decisions. As Germany stands at the beginning of such a discussion, more formalised priority setting procedures seem in order.

Willingness of Participation in an Application-Based Digital Data Collection among Different Social Groups and Smartphone User Clusters.

Sensors (Basel)

May 2023

MTA-TK Lendület "Momentum" Digital Social Science Research Group for Social Stratification, Centre for Social Sciences, Tóth Kálmán Utca 4, 1097 Budapest, Hungary.

The main question of this paper is what factors influence willingness to participate in a smartphone-application-based data collection where participants both fill out a questionnaire and let the app collect data on their smartphone usage. Passive digital data collection is becoming more common, but it is still a new form of data collection. Due to the novelty factor, it is important to investigate how willingness to participate in such studies is influenced by both socio-economic variables and smartphone usage behaviour.

In this research, we propose an automatic recommender system for providing investment-type suggestions offered to investors. This system is based on a new intelligent approach using an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) that works with four potential investors' key decision factors (KDFs), which are system value, environmental awareness factors, the expectation of high return, and expectation of low return. The proposed system provides a new model for investment recommender systems (IRSs), which is based on the data of KDFs, and the data related to the type of investment.

Social entrepreneurship (SE) is an all-encompassing concept in comparison to a typical non-government organization (NGO). It is a topic that has captured the interest of academics investigating nonprofit, charitable, and nongovernmental organizations. Despite the interest, few studies have examined the overlap and convergence of entrepreneurship and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in congruence with the new phase of globalization.

Under Hungary's single payer health care system, hospitals face an annual budget cap on most of their diagnoses-related group based reimbursements. In July 2012, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) treatments of acute myocardial infarction were exempted from that hospital level budget cap. We use countrywide individual-level patient data from 2009 to 2015 to map the effect of such a quasi-experimental change in monetary incentives on health provider decisions and health outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • Implantable medical devices (IMDs) are increasingly common, but there's limited understanding of the patients who use them, including their knowledge and how these devices impact their lives.
  • A survey of 1,400 patients revealed that nearly one-third had IMDs, with tooth implants and intraocular lenses being the most prevalent types.
  • Results showed that patient knowledge about IMDs significantly influences their quality of life, and those with better knowledge and received usage instructions reported more positive outcomes.

Objectives: We aimed to compare measurement properties of the 5-level version of EQ-5D (EQ-5D-5L) and 2 Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) short forms, PROMIS-29+2 and PROMIS Global Health (PROMIS-GH-10), and of EQ-5D-5L and PROMIS-preference scoring system (PROPr) utilities.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in a general population sample in Hungary (N = 1631). We compared the following measurement properties at the level of items, domains, and utilities, the latter using corresponding US value sets: ceiling and floor, informativity (Shannon's indices), agreement, convergent, and known-group validity.
