This study elucidates the formulation and validation of a dynamic hybrid model for wind energy forecasting, with a particular emphasis on its capability for both short-term and long-term predictive accuracy. The model is predicated on the assimilation of time-series data from past wind energy generation and employs a triad of machine learning algorithms: Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN). Empirical data, harvested from a 2 MW grid-connected wind turbine, served as the basis for the training and validation phases.

The creation of sustainable urban communities is contingent upon the establishment of a sustainable, efficient, and fast transportation system. Bicycle sharing systems (BSS) are one of the most sustainable and inclusive ways of transportation in cities. An important question is how to increase BSS ridership and whether it can effectively replace cars in cities, hence contributing to achieving the 11th Sustainable Development Goal and creating sustainable urban communities.

Self-sufficiency, climate change and increasing geopolitical risks have driven energy policies to make renewable energy sources dominant in the power production portfolios. The initial boom in the mid-2000s of global photovoltaic installations demonstrated the feasibility of the ambitious renewable energy targets. However, this rapid scale-up has introduced challenges, including price volatility and system integration issues.

Background: Insights from mental health stigma research indicate the importance of societal and political views on mental health perceptions. Most studies originate from typical Western neo-liberal settings and focus on generic mental health issues. Our research explores these associations in Hungary, an understudied post-communist context with significant stigma levels, examining a broad range of stigmas related to both general and three specific mental illnesses: schizophrenia, depression, and alcohol use disorder (AUD).

Food Supply Chains (FSCs) have become increasingly complex with the average distance between producers and consumers rising considerably in the past two decades. Consequently, FSCs are a major source of carbon emissions and reducing transportation costs a major challenge for businesses. To address this, we present a mathematical model to promote the three core dimensions of sustainability (economic, environmental, and social), based on the Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) method.

Health Qual Life Outcomes

July 2024

EuroQol Research Foundation, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Purpose: The 2016 EQ-5D-3L value set for Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) allows for the calculation of EQ-5D-5L values via the crosswalk algorithm. The 2016 value set was based on methods predating the EQ-VT protocol, now considered the gold standard for developing EQ-5D value sets. Furthermore, direct elicitation of EQ-5D-5L is preferred over crosswalked values.

A Review on Indigenous Goats of East Africa: A Case for Conservation and Management.

Biology (Basel)

June 2024

Centre for Agricultural Genomics and Biotechnology, University of Debrecen, Egyetem tér 1, H-4032 Debrecen, Hungary.

Indigenous goats are important in the livelihoods of rural households in East African countries. This is due to their ability to produce and reproduce in different environments and climatic conditions. Even though these indigenous goats are important, there is little available information on the genetic characterization of these breeds in Africa and at the international level.

Long-term impact of unhealthy food tax on consumption and the drivers behind: A longitudinal study in Hungary.

Health Policy

August 2024

Health Services Management Training Centre, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; Hungarian Healthcare Management Association, Budapest, Hungary.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study analyzing purchases from 2,000 households between 2010-2018 found that while the tax initially led to decreased consumption, there was a rebound over time, correlating with increased disposable income.
  • * The tax also worsened inequality, as lower-income households spent a larger share of their budget on taxed products, indicating that while effective short-term, these taxes alone may not sustain long-term dietary change without additional interventions.

This study uses linked administrative data on live births, hospital stays, and census records for children born in Hungary between 2006 and 2011 to examine the relationship between poor housing quality and the health of newborns and children aged 1-2 years. We show that poor housing quality, defined as lack of access to basic sanitation and exposure to polluting heating, is not a negligible problem even in a high-income EU country like Hungary. This is particularly the case for disadvantaged children, 20-25% of whom live in extremely poor-quality homes.

Belief inducibility and informativeness.

Theory Decis

December 2023

Institute of Economics, Corvinus University of Budapest, Fővam tér 8, Budapest, 1093 Hungary.

We consider a group of receivers who share a common prior on a finite state space and who observe private correlated messages that are contingent on the true state of the world. Our focus lies on the beliefs of receivers induced via the signal chosen by the sender and we provide a comprehensive analysis of the inducible distributions of posterior beliefs. Classifying signals as minimal, individually minimal, and language-independent, we show that any inducible distribution can be induced by a language-independent signal.
