This data donation study explores how adolescents express emotions on social media, and how this expression varies by platform (Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok) and posting modality (permanent and ephemeral content). Adolescents from Belgium ( = 115), France ( = 146), and Slovenia ( = 119) "donated" screenshots from their social media accounts, including their bios, most recent posts, and most recent stories. These screenshots were coded for both textual references to positive and negative emotion words and emojis, and visual expressions of positive and negative emotion.

Background: Despite the benefits of genetic counseling and testing, uptake of cancer genetic services is generally low and Black/African American (Black) women are substantially less likely to receive genetic services than non-Hispanic White women. Our team developed a culturally sensitive, narrative decision aid video to promote uptake of genetic counseling among Black women at risk for a hereditary breast cancer syndrome that can be incorporated in conjunction with population-based cancer risk assessment in a clinical setting. We report here a pilot study to demonstrate changes in intention to access genetic counseling and intervention satisfaction.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) could be a candidate for cell-based therapy in chronic kidney disease (CKD); however, the uremic toxin in patients with CKD restricts the therapeutic efficacy of MSCs. To address this problem, we explored the effect of pioglitazone as a measure against exposure to the uremic toxin -cresol (PC) in MSCs. Under PC exposure conditions, apoptosis of MSCs was induced, as well as PC-induced dysfunction of mitochondria by augmentation of mitofusion, reduction of mitophagy, and inactivation of mitochondrial complexes I and IV.

Economic development in middle-income countries has led to a noticeable rise in the availability of commercial deep fried foods and lifestyles that require eating meals "on the go" and outside of the home. Yet, data from these countries where fried foods were traditionally prepared at home are scarce, despite several studies showing the potential adverse effects of fried food consumption on risk for heart disease. We aimed to examine whether consumption of fried foods inside or outside of the home is associated with an increased risk of myocardial infarction (MI) among Hispanic/Latinos living in Costa Rica.

The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility and effectiveness of civic engagement as an intervention strategy to address heart health in Black/African American women.
Methods: Using a quasi-experimental pre-post study design, civic engagement was tested by convening a convenience sample of self-identified Black/African American women, ages 30-70 years, English-speaking, and BMI ≥25.

Objective: We explored the associations of dietary, lifestyle, and sociodemographic factors with iron status in Chinese adults.
Design: Our study population consisted of 7672 adults aged 18-65 y from the 2009 China Health and Nutrition Survey.
