This paper explores a novel synthesis and characterization of silica-coated gold nanorods (AuNRs) embedding a highly emissive cyclometalated iridium(III) complex, denoted as Ir. We investigate the optical properties and the interplay between the metal compound and gold plasmon, observing how the emission of Ir incorporated into the nanoparticles shows two emission bands, one in the blue and the other in the green-orange range of the visible spectrum. To obtain a clearer picture of what we were observing, we synthesized analogous nanosystems, from which it was possible to highlight the effect of different features.

Among the intriguing bicontinuous self-assembled structures, the gyroid cubic is the most ubiquitous. It is found in block and star polymers, surfactants with or without solvent, in thermotropic liquid crystals with end- or side-chains, and in biosystems providing structural color and modelling cell mitosis. It contains two interpenetrating networks of opposite chirality and is thus achiral if, as usual, the content of the two nets is the same.

KMC collates and analyzes data from over 70 resources to compile the Target Central Resource Database (TCRD), which is the web-based informatics platform (Pharos). These data include experimental, computational, and text-mined information on protein structures, compound interactions, and disease and phenotype associations.

Zr-based metal-organic framework materials (Zr-MOFs) with increased specific surface area and pore volume were obtained using chemical (two materials, and ) and solvothermal () synthesis methods and investigated via FT-IR spectroscopy, TGA, SANS, PXRD, and SEM methods. The difference between and lies in the addition of reactants during synthesis. Nitrogen porosimetry data indicated the presence of pores with average dimensions of ~4 nm; using SANS, the average size of the nanocrystals was suggested to be approximately 30 nm.

Hetero-bimetallic liquid crystalline materials, exhibiting a single Col mesophase, were obtained by simple chemical blending between two structurally-related Cu(II) and Zn(II) metallomesogens based on 1,10-phenanthroline and two chelating gallate ligands. Mesomorphous and optical properties were modified upon their relative respective proportions. This study highlights the numerous possibilities for the fabrication of new multifunctional polymetallic materials, with the possibility of tuning the properties and controlling supramolecular interactions between metal centres and corresponding synergistic effects.

In this work, a chiral hydroxybutyrate linkage is inserted into the molecular core of hexacatenar rodlike compounds, containing a thienylfluorenone fluorophore. In addition to more usual tools, the methods used include grazing-incidence X-ray scattering, modulated differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), flash DSC with rates up to 6000 K/s, and chiro-optical spectroscopies using Mueller matrix method, plus conformational mapping.

The ordered mesoporous silica MCM-48 with cubic Ia3d structure was synthesized using the cationic surfactant hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a template agent and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as a silica source. The obtained material was first functionalized with (3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (KH560); further, two types of amination reagents were used: ethylene diamine (N2) and diethylene triamine (N3). The modified amino-functionalized materials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) at low angles, infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption experiments at 77 K.
