Opsoclonus-myoclonus syndrome (OMS) is a rare neurological inflammatory disease of paraneoplastic, parainfectious or idiopathic origin. It is manifested by the occurrence of opsoclonus, myoclonus, ataxia, as well as behavioral and sleep disorders. The incidence is estimated at 1/5,000,000 people.

Body Weight Changes During Childhood and Predictors of Excessive Body Weight in Adolescence-A Longitudinal Analysis.

Abnormal body weight, including overweight and obesity, is a common health problem affecting children and adolescents. The present study aimed to analyse weight changes in children from preschool age to adolescence and to identify early predictors of excessive weight in adolescence, such as blood pressure and physical fitness observed in preschool children. Data from 3075 children (1524 girls and 1594 boys), collected as part of the Gdańsk Centre for Health Promotion's "Your Child's Healthy Life" programme, were analysed, with each child assessed at ages 6, 10, and 14.

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is a sympathetic neurotransmitter widely distributed in the peripheral and central nervous system, affecting many physiological functions. Consequently, dysregulation of the NPY system contributes to numerous pathological disorders, including stress, obesity, and cancer. The pleiotropic functions of NPY in humans are mediated by G protein-coupled receptors (Y1R, Y2R, Y5R), which activate several signaling pathways and thereby regulate cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis, proliferation, angiogenesis, and metabolism.

The Impact of Inflammation on the Etiopathogenesis of Benign Salivary Gland Tumors: A Scoping Review.

Salivary gland tumors are rare head and neck tumors constituting up to 6% of all head and neck neoplasms; despite being mostly benign, these tumors present in diverse histological subtypes, making them challenging to diagnose and treat. Our research aims to investigate the link between inflammation and tumorigenesis within the salivary glands based on the literature regarding the etiopathogenesis of benign salivary gland tumors. This scoping review was conducted following the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews and reporting guidelines.

Dysphagia and Body Composition in Cornelia de Lange Syndrome.

Limited research had investigated nutritional status in patients with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) (OMIM 122470, 300590, 300882, 610759, 620568 and 614701). Body composition assessed via bioelectric impedance (BIA) is a particularly under-explored issue. In this cross-sectional study, we hypothesize that body composition imbalance is frequent in CdLS and may be associated with dysphagia.

Introduction: In clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), intravascular extension often results in neoplastic thrombus formation, impacting patient outcomes.

Material And Methods: We assessed P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1 (PSGL-1) expression in the primary tumours and thrombi of 82 ccRCC patients.

Results: Notably, PSGL-1 expression varied between tumour compartments, with higher prevalence in thrombus tumour cells (TC) and primary tumour-associated immune cells (TAIC).

Introduction: Gastroparesis is a disorder characterized by impaired gastric emptying and the accumulation of food in the intestines without any clear mechanical cause. Gastroparesis in critical care patients is a prevalent issue in the intensive care unit. The disruption of normal gastrointestinal motility in critically ill patients is linked to a significant risk of intolerance to enteral feeding, colonization of the gastrointestinal tract with pathogenic bacterial strains, increased permeability of the intestinal wall, translocation of the intestinal microbiota, leading to progressive malnutrition, and potential development of bacterial infection.

Flexible and Ecological Cotton-Based Dosimeter for 2D UV Surface Dose Distribution Measurements.

This work presents a 2D radiochromic dosimeter for ultraviolet (UV) radiation measurements, based on cotton fabric volume-modified with nitroblue tetrazolium chloride (NBT) as a radiation-sensitive compound. Human dirofilariasis is an emerging disease that is rising and driven by increasing travel of both humans and their companion animals and climate change. We report a case of in the scrotum of a 21-year-old patient, who experienced right testicular pain. Ultrasonography revealed a tubular, worm-like lesion extracted successfully and confirmed as an immature through parasitological and molecular analyses.

Objectives: To find possible relationship between asthma exacerbation and metabolomic profile of airways, assessed by non-invasive method - free volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled air in children.

Automated hearing loss type classification based on pure tone audiometry data.

Hearing problems are commonly diagnosed with the use of tonal audiometry, which measures a patient's hearing threshold in both air and bone conduction at various frequencies. Results of audiometry tests, usually represented graphically in the form of an audiogram, need to be interpreted by a professional audiologist in order to determine the exact type of hearing loss and administer proper treatment. However, the small number of professionals in the field can severely delay proper diagnosis.

An Optical Reusable 2D Radiochromic Gel-Based System for Ionising Radiation Measurements in Radiotherapy.

This work describes the development of a reusable 2D detector based on radiochromic reaction for radiotherapy dosimetric measurements. It consists of a radiochromic gel dosimeter in a cuboidal plastic container, scanning with a flatbed scanner, and data processing using a dedicated software package. This tool is assessed using the example of the application of the coincidence test of radiation and mechanical isocenters for a medical accelerator.

Polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia of intermediate-age: A real-life, multicenter analysis of first-line treatment approach.

Background: The treatment of patients with polycythemia vera (PV) and essential thrombocythemia (ET) is conducted according to well-defined risk stratification systems.
