European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) 2023 guidance paper for nonfunctioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours.

This ENETS guidance paper for well-differentiated nonfunctioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (NF-Pan-NET) has been developed by a multidisciplinary working group, and provides up-to-date and practical advice on the management of these tumours. Using the extensive experience of centres treating patients with NF-Pan-NEN, the authors of this guidance paper discuss 10 troublesome questions in everyday clinical practice. Our many years of experience in this field are still being verified in the light of the results of new clinical, which set new ways of proceeding in NEN.

VTE Prophylaxis in Critically Ill Adults: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-analysis.

Background: Critically ill adults are at increased risk of VTE, including DVT, and pulmonary embolism. Various agents exist for venous thromboprophylaxis in this population.

Mechanics of Total Drum Replacement Tympanoplasty Studied With Wideband Acoustic Immittance.

Objective: Poor hearing outcomes often persist following total drum replacement tympanoplasty. To understand the mechanics of the reconstructed eardrum, we measured wideband acoustic immittance and compared the mechanical characteristics of fascia-grafted ears with the normal tympanic membrane.

Surveillance recommendations for DICER1 pathogenic variant carriers: a report from the SIOPE Host Genome Working Group and CanGene-CanVar Clinical Guideline Working Group.

DICER1 syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that predisposes to a wide spectrum of tumors. Developing surveillance protocols for this syndrome is challenging because uncertainty exists about the clinical efficacy of surveillance, and appraisal of potential benefits and harms vary. In addition, there is increasing evidence that germline DICER1 pathogenic variants are associated with lower penetrance for cancer than previously assumed.

New-onset atrial fibrillation and associated outcomes and resource use among critically ill adults-a multicenter retrospective cohort study.

Background: New-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) is commonly encountered in critically ill adults. Evidence evaluating the association between NOAF and patient-important outcomes in this population is conflicting. Furthermore, little is known regarding the association between NOAF and resource use or hospital costs.

Surveillance of surgical site infection in a teaching hospital in Ghana: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Surveillance systems for surgical site infections (SSIs), as a measure of patient safety, help health institutions devise strategies to reduce or prevent them. No surveillance systems exist to monitor SSIs in Ghana.

Aim: To establish a system for monitoring trends and detecting outbreaks in order to create awareness of and control SSIs.

Antibiotic use in surgical units of selected hospitals in Ghana: a multi-centre point prevalence survey.

Background: Improper use of antibiotics leads to the emergence of resistant microorganisms as well as drug toxicity, increased healthcare costs, morbidity and mortality. Globally, an estimated 25-68% of hospitalized patients receive suboptimal antibiotic regimes. Information on the extent of this problem in Ghana is currently limited, particularly in surgical units.
