Background: Coronary tortuosity (CorT) is frequently observed in invasive angiography, though its aetiology and clinical significance remain ambiguous. Prior research has indicated possible links between CorT and factors such as hypertension, age, and calcium scores in the left anterior descending (LAD) artery. The aim of this study was to examine and optimize the usage of coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) with vessel tracking to explore these associations.

BackgroundIn 2022, a global monkeypox virus (MPXV) clade II epidemic occurred mainly among men who have sex with men. Until early 1980s, European smallpox vaccination programmes were part of worldwide smallpox eradication efforts. Having received smallpox vaccine > 20 years ago may provide some cross-protection against MPXV.

While the diuretic effect of loop diuretics is well established, it remains unclear how furosemide influences pulmonary congestion and cardiac filling pressures in the hyperacute phase before significant diuresis occurs.
Methods: This was a prospective study of adult patients with AHF and objective signs of pulmonary congestion admitted to the cardiac ward.

Objective: To evaluate the association between maternal BMI and congenital heart defects (CHDs) in the offspring when including live births, stillbirths, aborted and terminated pregnancies and to investigate if maternal interpregnancy weight changes between the first and second pregnancy influences the risk of foetal CHDs.
Methods: A nationwide cohort study of all singleton pregnancies in Denmark from 2008 to 2018. Data were retrieved from the Danish Foetal Medicine Database, which included both pre- and postnatal diagnoses of CHDs.

Autoimmune liver diseases are associated with an increased risk of diabetes, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. In this cross-sectional study, we investigated the glucose-regulatory disturbances in patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH, = 19), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC, = 15), and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC, = 6). Healthy individuals ( = 24) and patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD, = 18) were included as controls.

Introduction: The Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) in blood has demonstrated its capability to predict bacteremia in emergency departments, and its association with mortality has been established in patients with sepsis in intensive care units. However, its potential concerning mortality and readmission in patients with Gram-negative bacteremia (GNB) is unexplored.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients with GNB between 2018 and 2022 from six hospitals in the Capital Region of Denmark.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract that encompasses two major conditions: Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Historically, IBD has been primarily reported in western countries, but over the past decades, its prevalence is rapidly increasing, especially in lower and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as India and China and also in Sub-Saharan Africa. The prevalence of IBD in LMICs has been the subject of growing concern due to the impact of access to public healthcare and the burden it places on healthcare resources.

Introduction: Ultrasound measures of subacromial structures are reliable in the hands of experienced sonographers, but it remains unknown if inexperienced clinicians can achieve a satisfactory level of interrater reliability. The aim was to investigate if standardised subacromial ultrasound measures are reliable in the hands of novice sonographers.
Methods: Two novice sonographers performed standardised ultrasound measures on patients diagnosed with subacromial pain syndrome and asymptomatic shoulders.

Background And Aims: Patients with some chronic liver diseases have increased risk of diabetes. Whether this is also the case for patients with autoimmune liver diseases is unknown. The study aimed to calculate risk and worldwide prevalence of diabetes in patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).

Introduction: It remains unclear whether long-term non-invasive ventilation (LT-NIV) for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) improves survival and reduces admissions as results from randomized trials are inconsistent. We aim to determine whether LT-NIV initiated after an admission with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF) can affect survival and admission rate in COPD patients.
Methods: A randomized controlled open-label trial, allocating patients with COPD to LT-NIV or standard of care immediately after an admission with AHRF treated with acute NIV.

Autoimmune liver diseases include autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis. They are chronic, heterogenous diseases affecting the liver which is a key metabolic organ that ensures glucose homeostasis. It is well known that patients with other chronic liver diseases such as cirrhosis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) display glucose disturbances like insulin resistance and have an increased risk of diabetes.

Background: In accordance with the focus on patient safety and quality in healthcare, continuing professional development (CPD) has received increasing levels of attention as a means to ensure physicians maintain their clinical competencies and are fit to practice. There is some evidence of a beneficial effect of CPD, though few studies have evaluated its effect within anesthesia. The primary aim of this systematic review was to establish which CPD activities anesthetists are engaged in and their effectiveness.

Introduction: Since the beginning of the mpox (previously called monkeypox) outbreak in 2022, almost half of cases in Denmark have been diagnosed at the Department of Infectious Diseases, Copenhagen University Hospital - Amager and Hvidovre Hospital. This article describes the patient cohort seen at the Department with a view to increasing knowledge of mpox among colleagues who are most likely to identify future cases.
Methods: A retrospective observational study reporting patient characteristics, coinfections, clinical presentation and diagnostic delay among mpox cases diagnosed at the department between 23 May 2022 and 8 February 2023.
Introduction: Oxygen treatment of hypoxaemia is considered an essential part of the treatment of patients who are acutely admitted with medical conditions affecting cardiovascular and/or pulmonary function. Despite the important role of oxygen administration for these patients, clinical evidence on how to control supplemental oxygen to avoid hypoxaemia and hyperoxia is limited. We aim to investigate whether an automatic closed-loop oxygen administration system (O2matic) may maintain normoxaemia better than usual care.

Introduction: The Danish National Patient Register (NPR) is an indispensable source of data for population-based studies of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Current case-validation algorithms are at risk of overestimating the occurrence of IBD in Denmark. We aimed to develop a new algorithm for validating IBD patients in the Danish NPR and compared it with the algorithm currently used.

Background: Patients admitted to the emergency care setting with COVID-19-infection can suffer from sudden clinical deterioration, but the extent of deviating vital signs in this group is still unclear. Wireless technology monitors patient vital signs continuously and might detect deviations earlier than intermittent measurements. The aim of this study was to determine frequency and duration of vital sign deviations using continuous monitoring compared to manual measurements.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of diagnostic testing against curbing the spread of SARS-CoV-2. The urgent need and scale for diagnostic tools resulted in manufacturers of SARS-CoV-2 assays receiving emergency authorization that lacked robust analytical or clinical evaluation. As it is highly likely that testing for SARS-CoV-2 will continue to play a central role in public health, the performance characteristics of assays should be evaluated to ensure reliable diagnostic outcomes are achieved.
