Cardiovascular Non-Invasive Imaging Research Laboratory, Department of Cardiology, Copenhagen University Hospital-Herlev & Gentofte Hospital, Hellerup, Denmark; Center for Translational Cardiology and Pragmatic Randomized Trials, Department of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark; Department of Cardiology, Copenhagen University Hospital-Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark; Steno Diabetes Center, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored the relationship between ischemic heart disease (IHD) and the recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) after catheter ablation in patients, using data from Danish registries between 2010 and 2020.
  • - It found that while preexisting IHD initially seemed to increase the risk of AF recurrence, this association disappeared after adjusting for other factors; however, new-onset IHD after ablation was linked to a significantly higher risk of AF recurrence.
  • - The conclusion suggests that IHD doesn't hinder the effectiveness of AF ablation, but developing IHD after the procedure may trigger recurrent AF episodes that the ablation didn't fully suppress.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the indication of "pain without loosening" as a reason for knee arthroplasty revisions in Danish patients, aiming to identify any hidden indications that may improve data quality in the Danish Knee Arthroplasty Register.
  • A total of 104 patients were reviewed, confirming "pain without loosening" as the primary reason in 103 cases, while also uncovering 44 hidden indications like malposition of components and stiffness.
  • The findings highlight that while "pain without loosening" is recognized, other significant causes need documentation in registers, with a notable concern regarding the frequency of early arthrosis grades prior to surgery possibly contributing to unexplained knee pain.

Introduction: It remains unclear whether long-term non-invasive ventilation (LT-NIV) for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) improves survival and reduces admissions as results from randomized trials are inconsistent. We aim to determine whether LT-NIV initiated after an admission with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF) can affect survival and admission rate in COPD patients.

Methods: A randomized controlled open-label trial, allocating patients with COPD to LT-NIV or standard of care immediately after an admission with AHRF treated with acute NIV.

Objectives: For patients admitted with an acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) and a need for supplementary oxygen therapy, to determine if peripheral oxygen saturation < 88% (hypoxemia) or >92% (hyperoxemia), within first 24 hours of admission, is associated with 'treatment failure' or fewer days alive and out of hospital within 14 days after admission.

Design: A retrospective multicenter observational study, reviewing consecutive data on SpO2, oxygen, and drug administration at three predefined time points, on adverse events in patients admitted with COPD between December 2019 and June 2020. Multivariable logistic regression analysis, Mann Whitney U- and Chi-square-test were used.
