Purpose: Whether breast density mediates associations between early life body size and pubertal timing with postmenopausal breast cancer is underexplored.
Methods: We studied 33,939 Danish women attending the Capital Mammography Screening Program at ages 50-69 years. Early life anthropometry and pubertal timing information came from the Copenhagen School Health Records Register.

Background: Intermediate-high risk pulmonary embolism (PE) carries a significant risk of hemodynamic deterioration or death. Treatment should balance efficacy in reducing clot burden with the risk of complications, particularly bleeding. Previous studies on high-dose, short-term thrombolysis with alteplase (rtPA) showed a reduced risk of hemodynamic deterioration but no change in mortality and increased bleeding complications.

Background And Aim: Asthma in early life has been linked to subsequent development of COPD and according to GOLD 2023 COPD may be divided into distinct subtypes. We aimed to investigate factors associated with the GOLD classification COPD-A (asthma in childhood) and COPD-C (tobacco exposure) in a cohort of adults with a history of severe childhood asthma.
Patients And Methods: In a cohort of Danish adults with a history of severe childhood asthma and a previous 4-month stay during childhood at the asthma care facility in Kongsberg, Norway, we divided participants in a long-term follow-up examination into COPD-A and COPD-C, defined as post-bronchodilator FEV/FVC < 0.

December 2024
Department of Intensive Care, Amsterdam University Medical Centers, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Background: Current guidelines discourage prophylactic plasma use in non-bleeding patients. This study assesses global plasma transfusion practices in the intensive care unit (ICU) and their alignment with current guidelines.
Study Design And Methods: This was a sub-study of an international, prospective, observational cohort.

Background And Objective: Our knowledge of socioeconomic status (SES) and emergency department (ED) visits in adults with a history of severe childhood asthma is limited. Our aim was, therefore, to investigate these variables in individuals with a history of severe childhood asthma compared to a control population.
Methods: The Kongsberg cohort comprises Danish individuals with a history of severe childhood asthma and a previous 4-month stay at an asthma care facility in Kongsberg, Norway, between 1950 and 1979.

Objectives: Endothelial injury may promote declining lung function. We aimed to investigate in well-treated persons living with HIV (PLWH) whether elevated levels of thrombomodulin (TM) and syndecan-1 (SDC1) are associated with excess lung function decline and worsening dyspnea.
Methods: A prospective cohort study comprising patients from the Copenhagen municipality.

Background: Idiopathic epicardial premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) originating from the left ventricular summit are difficult to eliminate.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to describe the feasibility and procedural safety of monopolar biphasic focal pulsed field ablation (F-PFA) from within the great cardiac vein (GCV) for treatment of idiopathic epicardial PVCs.
Methods: In 4 pigs, F-PFA (Centauri, CardioFocus) was applied from within the GCV followed by macroscopic gross analysis.

Background: Perioperative hypotension is common and associated with adverse patient outcomes. Vasoactive agents are often used to manage hypotension, but the ideal drug, dose and duration of treatment has not been established. With this scoping review, we aim to provide an overview of the current body of evidence regarding the vasoactive agents used to treat perioperative hypotension in non-cardiac surgery.

Background: Childhood asthma is a prevalent condition with potential impacts on adult life.
Research Question: In a 60-year follow-up study of adults with a history of severe childhood asthma, what are the potential differences in characteristics between individuals with persistent asthma and asthma remission in adulthood?
Study Design And Methods: Danish adults with a history of childhood asthma and a 4-month stay at an asthma care facility in Kongsberg, Norway (1950-1979) in childhood were included. Recruitment was carried out through social media and personal invitation letters.

Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Gentofte and Herlev, Herlev, Denmark.
Background And Aims: Reliable and easily accessible objective markers of disease activity to predict long-term treatment outcomes in severe ulcerative colitis (UC) are missing. We aimed to investigate if intestinal ultrasound (IUS) might predict long-term outcomes in hospitalized patients with severe UC treated with intravenous corticosteroids.
Methods: Hospitalized patients with severe UC and IUS inflammation (bowel wall thickness (BWT)>3.
Introduction: Intravenous loop diuretics have been a key component in treating pulmonary oedema since the 1960s and have a Class 1 recommendation in the 2021 guidelines for acute heart failure (AHF). While the diuretic effect of loop diuretics is well established, it remains unclear how furosemide influences pulmonary congestion and cardiac filling pressures in the hyperacute phase before significant diuresis occurs.
Methods: This was a prospective study of adult patients with AHF and objective signs of pulmonary congestion admitted to the cardiac ward.

Background And Aims: To demonstrate that administration of 7500 Trichuris suis ova [TSO] every second week over 24 weeks would reduce the intestinal inflammation in moderate ulcerative colitis.
Methods: A single-centre, randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled, phase 2b clinical trial of 7500 Trichuris suis ova every 2 weeks for 24 weeks compared with placebo in moderate activity of ulcerative colitis [Mayo score 6-10] were performed. Primary outcome: clinical remission; secondary outcomes: clinical response at 24 weeks, complete corticosteroid-free clinical remission, endoscopic remission, symptomatic remission at 12 and 24 weeks, and partial Mayo score over time.

Objectives: Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) are widely used in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, ICS are associated with an increased risk of adverse effects. We aimed to determine whether an association between a lower respiratory tract culture with and increasing ICS dosing in patients with COPD exists.

It is unknown whether sex differences persist when considering neighborhood racial and ethnic composition. We examined the odds of receiving B-CPR stratified by location and neighborhood.

Background: Asthma is the most common chronic illness in children, carrying a major burden. Socioeconomic position (SEP) affects adult asthma outcomes, but its impact on childhood asthma, particularly in primary versus specialist care, has not been studied thoroughly.
Methods: In a Danish cohort consisting of all children aged 2-17 years redeeming inhaled corticosteroids in 2015, parental SEP impact on asthma outcomes was investigated.
