Understanding the lived experiences of short- and long-term consequences on daily life after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. A focus group study.

Aim: To explore and gain in-depth understanding of how out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivors experience the short- and long-term consequences on daily life.

Design: A qualitative exploratory design.

Methods: A purposive sample of 32 survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Background: The incidence of infective endocarditis (IE) has increased in recent decades. Societal lockdown including reorganization of the healthcare system during the COVID-19 pandemic may influence the incidence of IE. This study sets out to investigate the incidence of IE during the Danish national lockdown.

A first-in-man phase 1 study of the DNA-dependent protein kinase inhibitor peposertib (formerly M3814) in patients with advanced solid tumours.

Background: This open-label, phase 1 trial (NCT02316197) aimed to determine the maximum-tolerated dose (MTD) and/or recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D) of peposertib (formerly M3814), a DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) inhibitor in patients with advanced solid tumours. Secondary/exploratory objectives included safety/tolerability, pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic profiles and clinical activity.

Methods: Adult patients with advanced solid tumours received peposertib 100-200 mg once daily or 150-400 mg twice daily (BID) in 21-day cycles.

Pharmacokinetics of salmeterol and its main metabolite α-hydroxysalmeterol after acute and chronic dry powder inhalation in exercising endurance-trained men: Implications for doping control.

As of 2020, use of beta -agonist salmeterol is restricted by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is only permitted by inhalation at therapeutic doses not exceeding 200 μg in 24 h. In contrast to beta -agonists salbutamol and formoterol, WADA has not established a urine threshold for salmeterol despite its muscle hypertrophic actions observed in animals. Herein, we investigated plasma (0-4 h) and urine (0-24 h) concentrations (by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry [UHPLC-MS/MS]) of salmeterol and α-hydroxysalmeterol after dry powder inhalation at supratherapeutic (400 μg) and high therapeutic (200 μg) doses, and after seven consecutive days of therapeutic inhalation (200 μg × day ) in 11 healthy endurance-trained men.

Introduction: Variants in collagen-related genes COL1A1, COL3A1, COL5A1 and COL5A2 are associated with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), a heterogeneous group of connective tissue disorders strongly associated with increased bleeding. Of patients with incompletely explained bleeding diathesis, a relatively high proportion were shown to harbour at least one heterozygous variant of unknown significance (VUS) in one of these genes, the vast majority without meeting the clinical criteria for EDS.

Aim: To investigate the functional consequences of the identified variants by assessing the formation and degradation of types I, III and V collagen, in addition to plasma levels of ascorbic acid (AA).

Metal artefacts in PET/CT images hamper diagnostic accuracy in head and neck cancer (HNC). The aim of this study is to characterise the clinical effects of metal artefacts on PET/CT in HNC and to inform decision-making concerning implementation of MAR techniques. We study a combined dual energy CT and inpainting-based metal artefact reduction (DECT-I-MAR) technique for PET/CT in three settings: (A) A dental phantom with a removable amalgam-filled tooth to evaluate the PET error in comparison to a known reference.

Effectiveness and Safety of Interferon-Free Direct-Acting Antiviral Hepatitis C Virus Therapy in HIV/Hepatitis C Virus Coinfected Individuals: Results From a Pan-European Study.

Objectives: To investigate the effectiveness, safety, and reasons for premature discontinuation of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in a diverse population of HIV/hepatitis C virus (HCV) coinfected individuals in Europe.

Methods: All HIV/HCV coinfected individuals in the EuroSIDA study that started interferon free DAA treatment between January 6, 2014, and January 3, 2018, with ≥12 weeks of follow-up after treatment stop were included in this analysis. Sustained virological response (SVR) was defined as a negative HCV-RNA result ≥12 weeks after stopping treatment (SVR12).

Methods And Analysis: In the HOVON 141/VISION trial, patients with RR-CLL are treated with 12 cycles of IV after a short induction with ibrutinib.

Severe hypophosphataemia following oral bisphosphonate treatment in a patient with osteoporosis.

A 76-year-old woman was treated with oral bisphosphonate, alendronate, for osteoporosis in an outpatient clinic. Routine blood tests 4 months after alendronate prescription surprisingly revealed severe hypophosphataemia. The patient was hospitalised and treated with intravenous and oral phosphate supplements.

Cerebrovascular effects of glibenclamide investigated using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging in healthy volunteers.

Glibenclamide inhibits sulfonylurea receptor (SUR), which regulates several ion channels including SUR1-transient receptor potential melastatin 4 (SUR1-TRPM4) channel and ATP-sensitive potassium (K) channel. We aimed to establish whether rs641738C>T is a risk factor across the spectrum of NAFLD and to characterise its role in the regulation of related metabolic phenotypes through a meta-analysis.

International severe asthma registry (ISAR): protocol for a global registry.

Background: Severe asthma exerts a disproportionately heavy burden on patients and health care. Due to the heterogeneity of the severe asthma population, many patients need to be evaluated to understand the clinical features and outcomes of severe asthma in order to facilitate personalised and targeted care.
