Periostin is a matricellular protein known to be alternatively spliced to produce ten isoforms with a molecular weight of 78-91 kDa. Within the extracellular matrix, periostin attaches to cell surfaces to induce signaling via integrin-binding and actively participates in fibrillogenesis, orchestrating the arrangement of collagen in the extracellular environment. In atopic diseases such as atopic dermatitis (AD) and asthma, periostin is known to participate in driving the disease-causing type 2 inflammation.

Background: No routinely recommended cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk prediction equations have adjusted for CVD preventive medications initiated during follow-up (treatment drop-in) in their derivation cohorts. This will lead to underestimation of risk when equations are applied in clinical practice if treatment drop-in is common. We aimed to quantify the treatment drop-in in a large contemporary national cohort to determine whether equations are likely to require adjustment.

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic, movement disorder clinics have seen an increase in patients with an unusual type of tic-like symptoms: young adults with abrupt onset complex behaviors. It was quickly suspected that these patients suffered from functional neurological symptoms, later named Functional Tic-Like Behaviors (FTLB). Subsequent research on the differential diagnosis between FTLB and tics has been substantial and led to the development of diagnostic checklists.

Predictors for dMMR colorectal cancer in patients with serrated lesions and polyps - A register-based cohort study.

Cancer Epidemiol

August 2024

Department of Pathology, Copenhagen University Hospital - Herlev and Gentofte, Herlev, Denmark; Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Background: Serrated lesions and polyps (SP) are precursors of up to 30 % of colorectal cancers (CRC) through the serrated pathway. This often entails early BRAF mutations and MLH1 hypermethylation leading to mismatch repair deficient (dMMR) CRC. We investigated predictors of dMMR CRC among patients with co-occurrence of CRC and SP to increase our knowledge on the serrated pathway.
