Aim: To explore the association between bone disorder and the risk for progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in persons with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM).
Methods: In this prospective cohort study the association between bone mineral density (BMD), bone-derived factors (sclerostin, Dickkopf-1, and osteoprotegerin (OPG)), and four outcomes were investigated: 1) progression of albuminuria; 2) decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥30 %; 3) kidney failure (KF); and 4) a composite kidney outcome consisting of at least one of the outcomes.
Results: In 318 participants (median follow-up time 5.

Objective: Women with or at risk of hereditary breast- and ovarian cancer (HBOC) often live a surveillance-focused life from young adulthood. As they navigate a life of heightened medical vigilance, or a "cancer surveillance life," we explore how women with HBOC, as well as their partners and families, experience this particular kind of living through a thorough literature review of existing qualitative research.
Methods: We performed Boolean searches in PubMed, EMBASE, EBSCOhost, PSYCHinfo, Scopus, and Web of Science from April-May 2022, identifying 506 relevant articles.

Background And Objective: Treatment burden refers to the overall impact of medical treatments on a patient's well-being and daily life. Our objective is to evaluate the impact of treatment burden on quality of life (QoL) in patients with genitourinary (GU) malignancies, highlighting the importance of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in clinical trials to inform treatment decisions and improve patient care.
Methods: We conducted a narrative review of clinical trials focused on GU malignancy (prostate, bladder, and kidney) between January 2000 and June 2024, analyzing related PROs and findings regarding treatment burden.

Background: Acute respiratory failure (ARF) is common in critically ill patients, and 50% of patients in intensive care units require mechanical ventilation [3, 4]. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed that COVID-19 infection induced ARF caused by damage to the microvascular pulmonary endothelium. In a randomized clinical trial, mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients with severe endotheliopathy, as defined by soluble thrombomodulin (sTM) ≥ 4 ng/mL, were randomized to evaluate the effect of a 72-h infusion of low-dose prostacyclin 1 ng/kg/min or placebo.

Objective: To identify predictors of metastases, estimate the proportion of metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) cases according to these predictors, and subsequently create a risk table showing the absolute difference in metastasis proportion for each 10 mm increase in tumour size.
Patients And Methods: Patients diagnosed with histopathological confirmed ccRCC in 2010-2018 in Denmark identified in the nationwide Danish Multidisciplinary Renal Cancer Group (DaRenCa) Study-3. Association between diagnostic variables and metastases were assessed with logistic regression analyses.

The objective is to give an update on the current state of research on the genetics of primary headache in children and adolescents. Investigations of the genetics of migraine in adults have changed our understanding of the pathophysiology of migraine, but knowledge from our adult patients cannot be directly applied to pediatric patients. The study was conducted through searches of PubMed and Web of Science.

Chronic medical conditions caused by the inadequate adaptation of the body to modern lifestyles, such as physical inactivity and unhealthy diets, are on the rise. This study assessed whether a comprehensive lifestyle intervention, including high volumes of supervised exercise, could improve health outcomes. Eight volunteers with lifestyle-related diseases received a 6-month lifestyle intervention consisting of 8000-10 000 steps/day, 6 moderate-intensity endurance and 3 resistance training sessions per week, a 5-week long hike, and dietary advice.

Background: The number of systematic reviews is increasing rapidly. Several methodologies exist for systematic reviews. Cochrane Reviews follow distinct methods to ensure they provide the most reliable and robust evidence, ideally based on rigorous evaluations of randomized controlled trials and other high-quality studies.

Purpose: Remote symptom monitoring of patients with cancer has previously shown potential for improving clinical outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of remote symptom monitoring in patients with lung cancer after palliative induction treatment.
Methods: In a Danish multicenter randomized controlled trial, patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to remote symptom monitoring (intervention arm) added to standard of care versus standard of care (control arm).

Background: Good outcomes in stroke care require swift diagnostics, for which magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as first-line brain imaging is superior to computed tomography scans. Reduced length of stay (LOS) in hospital and emergency departments (ED) may optimize resource use. Fast-track stroke MRI was implemented as the primary imaging technique for suspected stroke, in the ED at Copenhagen University Hospital-Herlev and Gentofte in 2020.

Neuromodulation has been used in the treatment of various pelvic organ dysfunctions for almost 40 years and several placebo-controlled studies have confirmed its clinical effect. Many neuromodulation methods using different devices and stimulation parameters, targeting different neural structures have been introduced, but only a limited number have been adopted into routine clinical use. A substantial volume of basic research and clinical studies addressing specific effects of neuromodulation in the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB) have been published to date; however, their mechanistic implications have not been comprehensively summarized.

Objectives: To test whether haemochromatosis C282Y homozygotes have increased risk of diabetes, liver disease, and heart disease even when they have normal plasma iron, transferrin saturation, or ferritin concentrations and to test whether C282Y homozygotes with diabetes, liver disease, or heart disease have increased mortality compared with non-carriers with these diseases.
Design: Prospective cohort study.

Background: Surgery is the only curative treatment for pancreatic cancer, but less than 25 % of the patients present with a resectable tumor at the time of diagnosis. The aim of this study is to evaluate progression during surgical treatment delay and examine any associations between surgical treatment delay and survival.
Methods: This is a retrospective, single center propensity score matched study including treatment naïve patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma between 2018 and 2022.

Background: Despite evidence demonstrating that influenza vaccination is associated with reduced risk of cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality in individuals with diabetes mellitus (DM), vaccine uptake remains suboptimal.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of electronically delivered nudges on influenza vaccine uptake according to the presence of DM status versus other chronic diseases.
Methods: NUDGE-FLU-CHRONIC was a nationwide, randomized, pragmatic implementation trial among younger and middle-aged (18-64 years) Danish citizens with chronic disease during the 2023/2024 influenza season.

Introduction: Both liraglutide and colesevelam improve bile acid diarrhea symptoms. Colesevelam binds excess amounts of diarrhea-causing bile acids in the colon, whereas the mode of action for liraglutide remains elusive. In this article, we examined the impact of colesevelam and liraglutide treatment on the concentrations of bile acids in serum and feces and the fecal microbiota composition to better understand the 2 drugs' modes of action.
