Health-related quality of life in ANCA-associated vasculitis and item generation for a disease-specific patient-reported outcome measure.

Objective: The antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitides (AAVs) are multisystem diseases of the small blood vessels. Patients experience irreversible damage and psychological effects from AAV and its treatment. An international collaboration was created to investigate the impact of AAV on health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and develop a disease-specific patient-reported outcome measure to assess outcomes of importance to patients.

Pathology of the Emerging Mycobacterium tuberculosis Complex Pathogen, Mycobacterium mungi, in the Banded Mongoose ( Mungos mungo).

Wild banded mongooses ( Mungos mungo) in northeastern Botswana and northwest Zimbabwe are infected with a novel Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTC) pathogen, Mycobacterium mungi. We evaluated gross and histologic lesions in 62 infected mongooses (1999-2017). Many tissues contained multifocal irregular, lymphohistiocytic to granulomatous infiltrates and/or multifocal or coalescing noncaseating to caseating granulomas with variable numbers of intralesional acid-fast bacilli.

A novel technique for modified all-inside repair of bucket-handle meniscus tears using standard arthroscopic portals.

Background: Bucket-handle meniscus tears (BHMT) are often displaced and unstable. The inside-out technique of repairing such tears is currently the gold standard. All-inside repair with meniscal fixators is getting increasingly popular.

Diagnostic Tools to Use When We Suspect an Allergic Reaction to a Tattoo: A Proposal Based on Cases at Our Hospital.

Introduction: Tattooing has become a popular practice in western countries, particularly among younger populations. Tattoos, however, can cause complications, such as infections, allergic or foreign-body reactions, and even systemic inflammatory responses.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of all patients seen for tattoo-related complications at our skin allergy unit between January 2002 and December 2016.

Genital Granulomatosis in Male and Female Patients With Crohn's Disease: Clinical Presentation and Treatment Outcomes.

Background: Genital granulomatosis [GG] is a metastatic form of Crohn's disease [CD], characterised by granulomatous inflammation of the genital skin without contact with the gastrointestinal tract. Little is known about GG, as most publications are case reports or small series, and only sporadic in male cases.

Methods And Aims: Cases of GG were retrospectively collected through the Collaborative Network For Exceptionally Rare case reports project of the European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation.

A case of tuberculosis reactivation suspected of cancer progression during oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor treatment in a patient diagnosed as non-small cell lung cancer.

We report a first case of a patient experiencing reactivation of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) during treatment of oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A 44-year-old male patient visited the hospital with cough. He had been treated with erlotinib (oral TKI) for 8 months after being diagnosed as NSCLC with sensitive epidermal growth factor receptor mutation in our clinic.

Soft Tissue Applications of Er,Cr:YSGG Laser in Pediatric Dentistry.

Unlabelled: Soft tissue laser, such as diode and Nd:YAG lasers were initially used in soft tissue lesions because of its increased success rate. It was because of the fact that these lasers were well-absorbed by chromophores, such as hemoglobin and melanin which are found abundant in the oral mucosa. The introduction of erbium family in 1990 comprising the Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers made the hard tissue laser a boon for dentistry.

Adult Orbital and Adnexal Xanthogranulomatous Disease.

Purpose: Adult xanthogranulomatous disease of the orbit and ocular adnexa is a rare disease that can cause serious morbidity and mortality. Ophthalmologists are commonly the first clinicians to come in contact with affected patients and an understanding of the clinical features is essential.

Botulinum Toxin Injections Into the Lateral Cricoarytenoid Muscles for Vocal Process Granuloma.

Objective: Contact granulomas are benign, exophytic inflammatory lesions of the larynx that typically arise on or near the vocal process of the arytenoid cartilage. The most common management options include voice therapy and antireflux pharmacotherapy, intralesional steroid injections, botulinum toxin injections, and surgical excision. In-office Botox injection into the lateral cricoarytenoid (LCA) muscle can be effective even for recurrent granulomas.

Severe dermatophyte infection is rare in immunocompetent adults. Recently cases have been described in travelers returning from South East Asia (Luchsinger et al., 2015) [1].

Asymptomatic congenital tuberculosis: A case report.

Rationale: Congenital tuberculosis (TB) is described as a rare, but severe disease. In contrast to the cases with severe symptoms reported so far, we describe a child with asymptomatic congenital TB.

Patient Concerns: An 8-week-old girl was investigated because of newly diagnosed TB in her mother, which complained about cough since 21 weeks gestation.

Breast magnetic resonance imaging: tips for the diagnosis of silicone-induced granuloma of a breast implant capsule (SIGBIC).

Complications resulting from the placement of silicone breast implants are becoming more frequent in our clinical practice. This is due to the increase in breast aesthetic surgeries at the beginning of the century, where breast augmentation using silicone implants was the main intervention performed. Generally, studies that discuss the complications of breast implants are restricted to reports of intra- or extra-capsular ruptures, contractures and haematomas.

Comparison of the effects of esomeprazole plus mosapride citrate and botulinum toxin A on vocal process granuloma.

Objectives: Vocal process granulomas have a high tendency for persistence despite many treatment alternatives. Anti-reflux medications or botulinum toxin A injections are the main current therapies. There are no studies that compare the effects on vocal process granuloma of proton pump inhibitors plus prokinetic agents with botulinum toxin A injections.

Anterior segment optical coherence tomography and retained vegetal intraocular foreign body masquerading as chronic anterior uveitis.

Background: The purpose of this single case report was to report the use of anterior segment optical coherence tomography for the diagnosis and management of a retained vegetal intraocular foreign body.

Results: A 23-year-old otherwise healthy male presented with a progressive vision loss in the right eye (RE). He reported a mild ocular trauma with a tree leaf 1 year ago followed by recurrent episodes of redness and pain in the RE that partially resolved after a self-medication with topical steroids.

Skin diseases and tattoos: a five-year experience.

Background: Decorative tattooing as a body art form underwent an exponential increase during the last two decades, particularly among teenagers and young adults. Consequently, the number of reported adverse reactions after tattooing has increased. The most frequent reported skin reactions to tattoo include infectious (bacterial, viral, fungal) or inflammatory (allergic contact dermatitis and granulomatous reaction) diseases.

Clinico- pathologic presentation of hypersensitivity pneumonitis in Egyptian patients: a multidisciplinary study.

Background: Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is a common diffuse parenchymal lung disease in Egypt which can be difficult to recognize due to the dynamic symptoms & associated environmental factors.

Methods: Forty-three Egyptian patients were enrolled in this study, presenting with dyspnea and cough, predominant ground-glass opacity (GGO) in high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) where lung biopsy was needed to establish the diagnosis.

Results: The age range was 15 to 60 years.

A Case Report of Pediatric Brucellosis in an Algerian Immigrant.

An 8-year old girl presented to our facility with a 10-day history of fever, fatigue, abdominal pain and refusal to walk. She recently travelled from her native Algeria where she first developed symptoms.
