Operative and Conservative Management of Laryngeal Contact Granuloma: A Network Analysis and Systematic Review.

Objective: Laryngeal contact granuloma is a disease of benign hypertrophic granulation tissue at the medial side of vocal process. Numerous studies of conservative and surgical management have reported effectiveness, yet optimal treatment has not been standardized. We compared primary and secondary outcomes of conservative and surgical treatment using endoscopic grading, Voice Handicap Index-10 (VHI-10), maximum phonation time (MPT), and recurrence rate.

Eosinophilic dermatoses.

Eosinophilic dermatoses are a heterogeneous group of diseases, characterized by an eosinophil-rich infiltrate and/or degranulation of eosinophils. Blood eosinophilia may be an associated feature. Typical, albeit not specific histological findings include 'flame figures', which are caused by the accumulation of cationic proteins released by eosinophils and subsequent collagen denaturation.

Glioma Mimics: Magnetic Resonance Imaging Characteristics of Granulomas in Dogs.

Granulomas can "mimic" gliomas on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in human patients. The goal of this retrospective study was to report canine brain granulomas that were consistent with glioma based upon MRI, report their histologic diagnosis, and identify MRI criteria that might be useful to distinguish granuloma from glioma. Ten granulomas, initially suspected to be glioma based on MRI, were ultimately diagnosed as granulomatous meningoencephalomyelitis ( = 5), infectious granulomas ( = 3) or other meningoencephalitis ( = 2).

Cellular Immune Response Involving Multinucleated Giant Hemocytes with Two-Step Genome Amplification in the Drosophilid Zaprionus indianus.

Previously, a novel cell type, the multinucleated giant hemocyte (MGH) was identified in the ananassae subgroup of Drosophilidae. These cells share several features with mammalian multinucleated giant cells, a syncytium of macrophages formed during granulomatous inflammation. We were able to show that MGHs also differentiate in Zaprionus indianus, an invasive species belonging to the vittiger subgroup of the family, highly resistant to a large number of parasitoid wasp species.

Fish tank granuloma: An emerging skin disease in Iran mimicking Cutaneous Leishmaniasis.

Objective: Mycobacterium marinum causes a rare cutaneous disease known as fish tank granuloma (FTG). The disease manifestations resemble those associated with Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL). The aim of this study was to determine whether FTG was the cause of cutaneous lesions in patients who were referred to the Parasitology laboratory of Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad to be investigated for CL.

Sonographic features of vaccination granulomas in children with delayed-type hypersensitivity to aluminum.

In this article, we report the sonographic features of vaccination granulomas in three children sensitized to aluminum. Although the recognition of the vaccination granuloma relies on the clinical examination, misdiagnosis is frequent, leading to distressful procedures or prolonged antibiotic administration. In all our cases, sonography revealed a teardrop-shaped echogenic central structure, suggesting the deposition of aluminum crystals along the route of administration with consequent subcutaneous degenerative changes, and a surrounding hypoechoic cap, which reflects the changeable inflammatory reaction and the granuloma formation.

Immunologic adverse reactions of β-blockers and the skin.

β-Blockers are a widely utilised class of medication. They have been in use for a variety of systemic disorders including hypertension, heart failure and intention tremors. Their use in dermatology has garnered growing interest with the discovery of their therapeutic effects in the treatment of haemangiomas, their potential positive effects in wound healing, Kaposi sarcoma, melanoma and pyogenic granuloma, and, more recently, pemphigus.

Surgical Outcomes of Revision Microvascular Decompression for Persistent or Recurrent Hemifacial Spasm After Surgery: Analysis of Radiologic and Intraoperative Findings.

Objectives: Microvascular decompression (MVD) is the treatment of choice for hemifacial spasm (HFS), due to the high rate of complete resolution associated with MVD. However, some patients experience recurrent or persistent symptoms after surgery. In this study, we evaluated the causes of recurrence or failure based on our surgical experience with revision of MVD for HFS and analyzed the relationship between surgical outcomes and radiologic and intraoperative findings.

[Pseudotumoral tuberculosis of the cervix].

Tuberculosis of the cervix is rare and can mimick cervical cancer. Patients are paucisymptomatic and the disease is characterized by an insidious evolution, hence the delay in diagnosis. Common symptoms are non-specific contributing to therapeutic delay and increasing the risk of infertility which is perhaps inevitable.

The utility of narrow band imaging in endoscopic diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Objective: This study assessed the utility of narrow band imaging (NBI) in patients with symptoms of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) and tried to quantitatively evaluate the signs found under the NBI Laryngoscope.

Methods: Patients with and without LPR symptoms completed reflux symptom index (RSI) questionnaires prior to enrolment. The throat was examined by standard white light endoscopy followed by NBI.

Dermatotoxicology of microneedles (MNs) in man.

Developed within the last few decades, microneedles (MNs) have only recently seen wide-scale use among the general population, especially in the area of cosmetics. With the FDA only starting to regulate microneedling devices and the many new microneedling products that enter the modern global market, it is of utmost importance to establish the safety profile and reasonable expectations of the microneedling practice and its products. In our review of current literature, the authors searched the keyword "microneedle" with the following terms: "safety", "side effect", "toxicology", "adverse effect", "adverse event", "infection", "dermatitis", "granuloma", "scarring", and "hyperpigmentation".

[Evaluation of treatment modalities for contact granulomas].

Introduction: There are merely heterogenous therapy modalities for contact granulomas (CG) without evidenced efficacy. The intention of our study was to evaluate possible risk factors as well as to demonstrate therapeutic successful approaches.

Methods: Based on a retrospective analysis on 79 patients with CG we evaluated personal data for the first patient contact, for the first follow-up appointment (FA) averaged 3-4 months after the first contact, for the second follow-up appointment (SA) averaged 6-8 months after the first contact and for the last follow-up (LA) averaged 13 months after the first contact with collecting information concerning a possible gastrolaryngeal reflux disease as well as symptoms like harrumphing, hoarseness, hyperfunctional dysphonia as well as videostroboscopic signs.

Abdominal tuberculosis with a Pseudo-Sister Mary Joseph nodule mimicking peritoneal carcinomatosis.

A 46-year-old woman presented in severe abdominal pain on a background of 3 months of weight loss and intermittent vomiting. She had visited East Africa 6 months prior but reported no unwell contacts. On examination, she had generalised abdominal tenderness, distension and a painful paraumbilical swelling.

Non-infectious granulomatous dermatoses.

Granulomatous dermatoses comprise a wide range of etiologically and clinically distinct skin diseases that share a common histology characterized by the accumulation of histiocytes include macrophages. Tuberculosis due to in pet cats associated with feeding a commercial raw food diet.

The aim of this study is to describe an outbreak of tuberculous disease commencing with six young cats, living exclusively indoors in five different households across England, being presented to separate veterinarians across the UK with a variety of clinical signs.

Patch testing children with aluminium chloride hexahydrate in petrolatum: A review and a recommendation.

Background: According to studies on adults, patch testing with aluminium chloride hexahydrate 2% pet. is insufficient to detect aluminium allergy, and a 10% preparation is recommended. Other studies suggest that a 2% preparation is sufficient for testing children.

Uveitis as a window to diagnosis of sarcoidosis - case report and review of the literature.

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease of unclear etiology with a variable clinical profile characterized by the presence of non-caseating granuloma in involved organs. The diagnosis is often challenging and based on clinical, radiological and anatomopathological data. Sarcoidosis can be benign and self-limiting, but some cases may follow a chronic, progressive course and result in severe morbidity.

Treatment of Peristomal granulomatosis with a Neem and Red Hypericum Oil application: Case studies.

Background: Peristomal granulomatosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of uncertain aetiology, and a high recurrence rate. It frequently occurs in patients with enterostomy and urostomy. The most frequent type affects the mucocutaneous junction, causing bleeding and painful nodular lesions, which complicate management of the ostomy pouching system.

Bartonella henselae- and quintana-associated uveitis: a case series and approach of a potentially severe disease with a broad spectrum of ocular manifestations.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical manifestations of intraocular inflammation associated with Bartonella infection and describe the assessment and management of patients with cat-scratch disease (CSD).

Methods: This is a retrospective review of the clinical records of patients diagnosed with Bartonella henselae and Bartonella quintana intraocular inflammation from 2011 to 2018 in the Department of Ocular Inflammations and Infections of the University Eye Clinic of Ioannina (Greece). An analysis of the current literature concerning Bartonella-related intraocular infections was also carried out.

Transmission phenotype of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains is mechanistically linked to induction of distinct pulmonary pathology.

In a study of household contacts (HHC), households were categorized into High (HT) and Low (LT) transmission groups based on the proportion of HHC with a positive tuberculin skin test. The Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) strains from HT and LT index cases of the households were designated Mtb-HT and Mtb-LT, respectively. We found that C3HeB/FeJ mice infected with Mtb-LT strains exhibited significantly higher bacterial burden compared to Mtb-HT strains and also developed diffused inflammatory lung pathology.

Maxillary myxoma misdiagnosed as tuberculosis.

We present here the case of a three-year-old girl with a maxillary myxoma misdiagnosed as tuberculosis (TB). She was referred to our TB clinic with fever for seven months and swelling of the left cheek and a positive Mantoux test. Her mother was also on treatment for TB lymphadenitis.

Pericarditis After Breast Implant Rupture: A Case Report.

A ruptured breast implant is usually asymptomatic and accidentally discovered during an imaging test. However, implant ruptures can cause isolated silicone granulomas and cases of severe systemic disease. We report the first case of a 39-year-old female patient with augmentation breast implants and myopericarditis secondary to implant rupture.

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome: a case report of a rare disease with overlapping features.

Background: Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a rare, neuro-mucocutaneous disease which presents as orofacial swelling, facial palsy and fissured tongue. These symptoms may occur simultaneously or, more frequently, with a oligosymptomatic or monosymptomatic pattern. Swelling, that is the most common initial finding, may mimic hereditary or acquired angioedema, a disorder caused by histamine or bradykinin-mediated plasma-leakage affecting subcutaneous and/or submucosal tissue.
