Background: Efficacy of allergen immunotherapy is dose-dependent; however, high doses of allergen may imply a greater risk of adverse reactions.
Objective: To assess the safety and tolerability of subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) with mixtures of mite allergen extracts, Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus/Blomia tropicalis (Dpt/Bt) and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus/Lepidoglyphus destructor (Dpt/Ld) at maximum concentrations, in adult patients with allergic rhinitis or rhinoconjunctivitis, and controlled allergic asthma due to a clinically relevant sensitisation to these mites.
Methods: An open-label, noncontrolled, nonrandomised, phase IIb clinical trial was carried out in three hospitals in Spain between September 2014 and May 2018.

Aim: To quantify the severity and frequency of ocular pain in Tibetan plateau patients with dry eye, and to evaluate the related factors affecting ocular pain.
Methods: A retrospective study included 160 cases of dry eye disease (DED) patients who were treated from July 2022 to June 2023. Age, gender, occupation, illness course, anxiety, plateau duration, plateau protection, ocular surface disease index scale (OSDI), break-up time (BUT), Schirmer I test (SIT), conjunctivitis, history of ophthalmic medication, autoimmune disease, the workload of daily near vision range, smoking and overnight stay were obtained comprehensive ophthalmic assessment, and their duration was followed up.

Patients' collaboration with healthcare providers, along with their individual dedication to follow medical recommendations, is a crucial component of effective therapy in chronic diseases. If a patient fails to fill their prescription, administers the medication improperly in terms of method and/or dosage, misses follow-up visits, or discontinues the treatment for any reason, these lapses can adversely affect disease management, impairing the effectiveness of symptom relief and prevention of progression and complications. A comparable situation pertains to allergic diseases, which require long-term and consistent treatment to achieve symptom alleviation and control.

Allergic diseases triggered by airborne allergens such as allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis are increasingly prevalent, posing significant challenges for both patients and healthcare systems. Assessing the efficacy of allergen immunotherapy and other anti-allergic treatments requires precise and reproducible methods. Allergen exposure chambers (AECs) have emerged as advanced tools for evaluating clinical outcomes, offering controlled conditions that address many limitations of traditional field-based studies.

Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is a potentially disease-modifying therapy that is effective for the treatment of allergic rhinitis/conjunctivitis, allergic asthma and stinging insect hypersensitivity. The decision to proceed with AIT should be made on a case-by-case basis, based on a comprehensive evaluation of the patient, allergy testing and a thorough discussion with the patient about treatment goals, risks vs. benefits, and long-term commitment to the treatment plan.

Background: Adverse cutaneous drug reactions have been reported with most drugs, including antidepressants (ADs) and second-generation antipsychotics (SGAs). The lack of extensive research on the relationship between ADs and SGAs, and cutaneous toxicity remains troubling. Our study aimed to assess the cutaneous toxicity of ADs and SGAs and provide valuable insights for clinical applications and scientific investigations.

Purpose: Exposure to particulate matter (PM) and air pollution has been implicated in the etiology of ocular surface diseases (OSD). The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate and synthesize peer-reviewed literature on the impact of PM exposure on the ocular surface, integrating results from preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies with clinical findings to provide a comprehensive understanding of molecular mechanisms, physiological effects, clinical implications, and potential therapies to target acute and chronic PM-induced ocular toxicity.
Methods: A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed and EMBASE over the period from 2009 to 2024 following the recommendations for the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) reporting guidelines.

Background: One of the most important pillars of action to achieve the elimination of trachoma and soil-transmitted helminth infections as a public health problem is the mass administration, at regular intervals, of azithromycin and anthielmintics, respectively, to a high proportion of the eligible population in endemic areas.
Objective: The objective of the study was to identify access barriers and facilitators for achieving coverage goals in the mass drugs administration, azithromycin and albendazole, in the department of Amazonas, Colombia.
Methodology: Implementation research was used, combining three types of qualitative research methodologies to collect information about access barriers and facilitators already described; These were individual and group interviews, focus group discussions and face-to-face intercultural dialogues.

Background: Trachoma programs use the indicator trachomatous inflammation--follicular (TF) to monitor indication for and response to treatment for trachoma at the district level. Alternative indicators, including serologic markers, are increasingly being evaluated for trachoma surveillance. We evaluated seroprevalence of IgG antibodies to the Pgp3 antigen in two districts in Maradi, Niger thought to have low TF prevalence.

Background: There is accumulating evidence that allergy is a risk factor for keratoconus. Nonetheless the association between allergic disease and keratoconus remains controversial. We performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study to determine the putative causal association of 4 allergic diseases (allergic conjunctivitis, allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis and atopic dermatitis) with keratoconus.
