Article Synopsis
  • Cancer remains a leading cause of death globally, and while traditional treatments like chemotherapy and surgery exist, they often harm normal cells and face issues like drug resistance, highlighting the need for new therapies.
  • Microbial products, particularly Azurins, show promise as cancer treatments, as they can target cancer cells, like those in breast cancer, without damaging healthy cells.
  • Researchers have created a fusion protein, Azurin-BR2, combining Azurin with a cell-penetrating peptide to enhance its effectiveness; computational analyses suggest it can effectively bind to the p53 protein, potentially triggering cancer cell death and aiding targeted tumor therapy.

State Key Laboratory of Biobased Material and Green Papermaking, College of Food Science and Engineering, Qilu University of Technology, Shandong Academy of Science, PO Box 250353, Jinan, Shandong, China; Interdisciplinary Research Center in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM), COMSAT University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, 1.5 KM Defence Road Off Raiwind Road, Lahore, Pakistan. Electronic address:

An innovative and universal imprinted sensor design for sandwich type detection of gemcitabine (GMT) in human serum samples is described. GMT is widely used in the treatment of different tumors, such as lung, ovarian, pancreatic, and breast cancer. The serum albumin-drug interaction was translated to design a multifunctional, ratiometric and dual mode silver nanoparticle based probe (BSA-Ag nanoprobe), as a read out system.

Context: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), a member of the HER receptor family, is over expressed in various cancer cells. Using tumor-specific antibodies to deliver cytotoxic agents directly to the tumor cells is an effective treatment strategy. Targeted therapy by fusing anti-EGFR scFv with tumor-specific cytokines promises the emergence of a new era.

Purpose: Numerous carbohydrate polymers are frequently used in wound-dressing films because they are highly effective materials for promoting successful wound healing. In this study, we prepared amikacin (AM)-containing hydrogel films through the cross-linking of chitosan (CS) with folic acid along with methacrylic acid (MA), ammonium peroxodisulfate (APS), and methylenebisacrylamide (MBA). In the current studies, an effort has been made to look at the possibilities of these materials in developing new hydrogel film wound dressings meant for a slow release of the antibiotic AM and to enhance the potential for wound healing.

Purpose: Grounding on the supplies-values fit theory, this study examines the effect of green HRM practices on an employee's in-role green behavior after the Covid-19 pandemic. Moreover, this study examined the mediating role of psychological green climate between green HRM practices and in-role green behaviour. In addition, we studied that spiritual leadership as a buffering mechanism strengthens the relation between psychological green climate and employee in-role behavior.

Accumulation of heavy metals in the environment can pose a potential risk to living organisms. Ingestion of leafy vegetables, containing heavy metals, is one of the main routes through which these elements enter the human body. The present study was conducted to assess the accumulation of lead (Pb) and zinc (Zn) in spinach grown on metal contaminated soil, and to examine the bioassimilation of these metals in spinach-fed rabbits.

Enhanced solubility and biopharmaceutical performance of atorvastatin and metformin via electrospun polyvinylpyrrolidone-hyaluronic acid composite nanoparticles.

Eur J Pharm Sci

June 2021

Riphah Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (RIPS), Riphah International University, Lahore Campus, Lahore, 54000, Pakistan; Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Electronic address:

The study was aimed to improve the aqueous solubility of atorvastatin (AT) and ameliorate permeability of metformin (MT) in a combination formulation, improving their oral bioavailability. Several AT-MT loaded polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and hyaluronic acid (HA) based nanoparticles were prepared through electrospraying method (ES-NPs), and tested for physicochemical, in vitro, and in vivo parameters. Among the trialed formulations, a sample consisting of AT, MT, PVP, and HA at the weight ratio of 1/6.

Therapeutic potential of graphitic carbon nitride as a drug delivery system for cisplatin (anticancer drug): A DFT approach.

Biophys Chem

December 2020

Department of Chemistry, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad 38040, Pakistan; Punjab Bio-energy Institute, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad 38040, Pakistan. Electronic address:

In the current study, for the first time; the drug loading efficacy of graphitic‑carbon nitride (g-C3N4) for an anticancer drug, cisplatin was evaluated. To explore the effectiveness of g-C3N4 as a drug-delivery system, some important properties of cisplatin drug, g-C3N4 carrier, and g-C3N4-cisplatin complex were calculated at ground state and excited state. The cisplatin drug prefers to interact via H atoms to the N atoms of g-C3N4 carrier with an adsorption energy of about -1.

Effect of protein and oil volume concentrations on emulsifying properties of acorn protein isolate.

Food Chem

September 2020

Interdisciplinary Research Center in Biomedical Materials (IRCBM), COMSAT University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, Punjab, Pakistan.

This study aims to extract acorn protein isolate (API) from locally abundant waste acorn fruit and investigate its emulsification behavior by mixing different protein (0.1-2% w/v) and oil volume concentrations (5-45% v/v). Significant decrease in emulsifying activity index (EAI) and an increase in emulsifying stability index (ESI) were observed with an increase in API concentrations (P < 0.
