Background: Electromagnetic tracking (EMT) has been researched for brachytherapy applications, showing a great potential for automating implant reconstruction, and overcoming image-based limitations such as contrast and spatial resolution. One of the challenges of this technology is that it does not intrinsically share the same reference frame as the patient's medical imaging.
Purpose: To present a novel phantom that can be used for a comprehensive quality assurance (QA) program of brachytherapy EMT systems and use this phantom to validate a novel applicator-based registration method of EMT and image reference frames for gynecological (GYN) interstitial brachytherapy.

Introduction: In patients with a clinical indication for autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT), sufficient mobilization of CD34 precursor cells into peripheral blood is essential to ensure adequate hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) collection prior to intensive therapy. However, with standard granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF)-based mobilization schemes, an important minority of patients fail to mobilize sufficient (e.g.

TGFβ signaling and the DNA damage response (DDR) are two cellular toolboxes with a strong impact on cancer biology. While TGFβ as a pleiotropic cytokine affects essentially all hallmarks of cancer, the multifunctional DDR mostly orchestrates cell cycle progression, DNA repair, chromatin remodeling and cell death. One oncogenic effect of TGFβ is the partial activation of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), conferring invasiveness, cellular plasticity and resistance to various noxae.

Background And Purpose: The current standard imaging-technique for creating postplans in seed prostate brachytherapy is computed tomography (CT), that is associated with additional radiation exposure and poor soft tissue contrast. To establish a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) only workflow combining improved tissue contrast and high seed detectability, a deep learning-approach for automatic seed segmentation on MRI-scans was developed.
Material And Methods: Patients treated with I-125 seed brachytherapy received a postplan-CT and a 1.

Purpose: The number of older adults with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is increasing, and treatment of these patients is challenging. Although cisplatin-based chemotherapy concomitantly with radiation therapy is considered the standard regimen for patients with locoregionally advanced HNSCC, there is substantial real-world heterogeneity regarding concomitant chemotherapy in older patients with HNSCC.
Methods And Materials: The SENIOR study is an international multicenter cohort study including older patients (≥65 years) with HNSCC treated with definitive radiation therapy at 13 academic centers in the United States and Europe.

Introduction: Successful mobilization and collection of peripheral hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are necessary for lymphoma patients eligible for myeloablative chemotherapy with subsequent autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). Albeit G-CSF alone or combined with chemotherapy is well-established methods for HSC mobilization, up to 40% of the patients fail to mobilize (poor mobilizer, PM). Plerixafor (PLX) is commonly used in PM patients resulting in increased migration of HSCs into peripheral blood and thus improves the collection outcome.

Response to tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy in patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is monitored by quantification of BCR::ABL1 transcript levels. Milestones for assessing optimal treatment response have been defined in adult CML patients and are applied to children and adolescents although it is questionable whether transferability to pediatric patients is appropriate regarding genetic and clinical differences. Therefore, we analyzed the molecular response kinetics to TKI therapy in 129 pediatric CML patients and investigated whether response assessment based on continuous references can support an early individual therapy adjustment.

The immune microenvironment plays an important role in the regulation of diseases. The characterization of the cellular composition of immune cell infiltrates in diseases and respective models is a major task in pathogenesis research and diagnostics. For the assessment of immune cell populations in tissues, fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) or immunohistochemistry (IHC) are the two most common techniques presently applied, but they are cost intensive, laborious, and sometimes limited by the availability of suitable antibodies.

Purpose: Human papilloma virus (HPV) positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) tumors respond significantly better to anticancer treatments. It is assumed to be due to a better response to radiotherapy (RT), and presumably to an increased immunogenicity. However, little is known how the immune phenotype of HNSCC tumor cells is modulated by standard treatment, namely by radiochemotherapy (RCT).
