Predicting Anxiety in Routine Palliative Care Using Bayesian-Inspired Association Rule Mining.

We propose a novel knowledge extraction method based on Bayesian-inspired association rule mining to classify anxiety in heterogeneous, routinely collected data from 9,924 palliative patients. The method extracts association rules mined using lift and local support as selection criteria. The extracted rules are used to assess the maximum evidence supporting and rejecting anxiety for each patient in the test set.

Definitive radiochemotherapy of locally advanced head and neck squamous cell cancer (HNSCC) achieves high locoregional tumor control rates; but is frequently associated with long-term toxicity. A future direction could be a de-escalation strategy focusing on treated volume rather than radiotherapy dose. This analysis evaluates radiotherapy dose and volume parameters of patients treated with a standard contouring approach in a clinical trial context compared with a revised volume-reduced contouring approach.

Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) and metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) with mutations often lead to brain dissemination with poor patient outcome, thus new therapeutic targets are needed. Natural killer (NK) cells, members of the innate immune system, play an important role in the rejection of HLA class I negative tumor cells. Hence, a therapeutic vaccine, which can activate NK cells in addition to cells of the adaptive immune system might induce a more comprehensive cellular response, which could lead to increased tumor elimination. It has been over three decades since anthracyclines took their place as the standard chemotherapy backbone for breast cancer in the curative setting. Though the efficacy of anthracycline chemotherapy is not debatable, potentially life-threatening and long-term risks accompany this class of agents, leading some to question their widespread use, especially when newer agents with improved therapeutic indices have become available. Critically assessing when to incorporate an anthracycline is made more relevant in an era where molecular classification is enabling not only the development of biologically targeted therapeutics but also is improving the ability to better select those who would benefit from cytotoxic agents.

Purpose: Fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) alterations are frequent in non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), although current data regarding the prognostic and therapeutic relevance are inconsistent. We analyzed the prognostic role of FGFR3 mRNA expression in stage T1 NMIBC.

Melanoma is one of the most common cancers in adolescents and adults at fertile age, especially in women. With novel and more effective systemic therapies that began to profoundly change the dismal outcome of melanoma by prolonging overall survival, the wish for fertility preservation or even parenthood has to be considered for a growing portion of melanoma patients-from the patients' as well as from the physicians' perspective. The dual blockade of the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway by B-Raf proto-oncogene serine/threonine kinase and mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibitors and the immune checkpoint inhibition by anti-programmed cell death protein 1 and anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein-4 monoclonal antibodies constitute the current standard systemic approaches to combat locally advanced or metastatic melanoma.
