Melasma is a chronic skin condition that involves the overproduction of melanin in areas exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Melasma treatment is long-term and complicated with recurrence and resistance to treatment. The pathogenesis of melasma is highly complex with multiple pathologies occurring outside of the skin pigment cells.

Background: Photodynamic therapy involves using a photosensitizer with l illumination and is recommended for treating early, centrally located lung cancers, but it is not a standard treatment for peripheral lung tumor.. We previously proposed a novel light delivery method, in which lipiodol is perfused into the bronchial tree to increase the scope of illumination via the fiber effect.

Scarring is one of the most esthetically challenging and psychologically burdening aspects following inflammatory acne. While "macular" disease is the scar subtype with the least complicated outcome, its phase can be regarded as the most defining in the ultimate scar appearance. Moreover, with lasers recently gaining much popularity in the scientific community for managing several dermatologic conditions, we aimed to evaluate whether they would lead to significant benefits.

With increased popularity of decorative tattoos, awareness of tattoo-based dermatological complications has been raised. Health issues include a broad spectrum dominated by allergies and infections. To examine the etiopathology and prognose the outcome of an appropriate therapy, a non-invasive intravital diagnostic approach is indicated.

Purpose Of Review: Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is a rare X-linked dominant phakomatosis that predominately presents with dermatologic manifestations but can also cause central nervous system and ocular abnormalities. Awareness of the ocular complications of IP is crucial to identify ocular abnormalities early and prevent permanent vision loss.
Recent Findings: There have been significant recent advances in ocular diagnostic imaging in IP.

Multiple approaches are used to treat acne scars, but some are expensive, ineffective, and cause complications. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultra-pulsed CO fractional laser combined with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid in the treatment of acne scars in a prospective split-face control study. Twenty patients with facial symmetrical acne scars were enrolled.

Background: The use of hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers for medical aesthetic purposes is increasing worldwide. Nonetheless, adverse events do occur because of patient-specific issues, injection technique, or product factors. It would be mandatory to consider cultural and anatomical features of Asians in preventing and managing the complications of HA injections.

The optimal treatment of acne scarring is challenging because several factors need to be considered, including the type and number of scars, Fitzpatrick skin type, and the amount of downtime permissible to the patient. This second article in the continuing medical education series discusses the procedural treatments available for acne scarring, including the use of chemical peels, fillers, radiofrequency microneedling, lasers, and surgical procedures. The indications for each modality, evidence for its benefits, and the adverse effects are discussed.

Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is a typical complication of inflammatory dermatoses that more frequently and severely affects people with darker skin. External insults to the skin, such as burn injuries, dermatologic treatments, and intrinsic skin disorders (eg, eczema and acne), are common causes of PIH. Individuals with darker skin are prone to develop PIH, which can cause substantial psychological suffering.

Oxygen consumption but hypoxic tumor environment has been considered as the major obstacle in photodynamic therapy. Although oxygen-supplied strategies have been reported extensively, they still suffer from the complicated system and unsatisfied PDT efficiency. Herein, one-component layered nickel silicate nanoplatforms (LNS NPs) are successfully synthesized using natural vermiculite as the silica source, which can simultaneously supply oxygen (O) and generate superoxide radicals (O) under near-infrared irradiation.

Second near-infrared (NIR-II) window type-I photosensitizers have intrinsic advantages in photodynamic/photothermal therapy (PDT/PTT) of some malignant tumors with deep infiltration, large size, complicated location, and low possibility of surgery/radiotherapy. Herein, three chalcogen-element-based donor-acceptor-type semiconducting polymers (poly[2,2″-((E)-4,4″-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-[6,6″-bithieno[3,2-b]pyrrolylidene]-5,5″(4H,4″H)-dione)-alt-2,5-(thiophene)] (PTS), poly[2,2″-((E)-4,4″-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-[6,6″-bithieno[3,2-b]pyrrolylidene]-5,5″(4H,4″H)-dione)-alt-2,5-(selenophene)] (PTSe), and poly[2,2″-((E)-4,4″-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-[6,6″-bithieno[3,2-b]pyrrolylidene]-5,5″(4H,4'H)-dione)-alt-2,5-(tellurophene)] (PTTe)) are synthesized and fully characterized, demonstrating strong absorption in the NIR-II region. Upon adjusting the chalcogen elements, the intramolecular charge-transfer characteristics and the heavy-atom effect are tuned to enhance the intersystem crossing rate, improving the photodynamic effect.

Purpose: Comparing the effect of half-dose photodynamic therapy and high-density subthreshold micropulse laser treatment on retinal pigment epithelial detachments (PEDs) in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy.
Methods: This study included data from the PLACE trial, a prospective randomized controlled trial comparing half-dose photodynamic therapy and high-density subthreshold micropulse laser treatment in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy. Main outcome measurements were changes in both the foveal PED and the highest PED within the macula at baseline compared with first and final evaluation visit.

Bacterial infection treatment and subsequent tissue rebuilding are the main tasks of biomaterial research. To endow implants with antibacterial activity and biological functions, the material systems are usually very complicated and ineffective. Recently, the concept of photobiomodulation (PBM), or low-level laser therapy (LLLT), has attracted increasing attention in tissue repair applications but still has not obtained wide acceptance.
