Melasma is a chronic skin condition that involves the overproduction of melanin in areas exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Melasma treatment is long-term and complicated with recurrence and resistance to treatment. The pathogenesis of melasma is highly complex with multiple pathologies occurring outside of the skin pigment cells.

RESCUE INTRAVITREAL METHOTREXATE TREATMENT FOLLOWING EARLY RECOGNITION OF PROLIFERATIVE VITREORETINOPATHY.

Purpose: To report a case of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) in a man with recurrent retinal detachment successfully managed without surgical intervention following the initiation of intravitreal methotrexate injections to arrest progression of PVR.

Methods: Report of a case.

Results: A 60-year-old man presented to the retina clinic 4 weeks after undergoing vitrectomy for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and was found to have an inferior recurrent retinal detachment.

Moreover, with lasers recently gaining much popularity in the scientific community for managing several dermatologic conditions, we aimed to evaluate whether they would lead to significant benefits.

Purpose Of Review: Incontinentia pigmenti (IP) is a rare X-linked dominant phakomatosis that predominately presents with dermatologic manifestations but can also cause central nervous system and ocular abnormalities. Awareness of the ocular complications of IP is crucial to identify ocular abnormalities early and prevent permanent vision loss.

Combination treatment with 30% salicylic acid and fractional CO laser for acne scars: A 20-week prospective, randomized, split-face study.

Multiple approaches are used to treat acne scars, but some are expensive, ineffective, and cause complications. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ultra-pulsed CO fractional laser combined with 30% supramolecular salicylic acid in the treatment of acne scars in a prospective split-face control study. Twenty patients with facial symmetrical acne scars were enrolled.

Achieving Efficient NIR-II Type-I Photosensitizers for Photodynamic/Photothermal Therapy upon Regulating Chalcogen Elements.

Second near-infrared (NIR-II) window type-I photosensitizers have intrinsic advantages in photodynamic/photothermal therapy (PDT/PTT) of some malignant tumors with deep infiltration, large size, complicated location, and low possibility of surgery/radiotherapy. Herein, three chalcogen-element-based donor-acceptor-type semiconducting polymers (poly[2,2″-((E)-4,4″-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-[6,6″-bithieno[3,2-b]pyrrolylidene]-5,5″(4H,4″H)-dione)-alt-2,5-(thiophene)] (PTS), poly[2,2″-((E)-4,4″-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-[6,6″-bithieno[3,2-b]pyrrolylidene]-5,5″(4H,4″H)-dione)-alt-2,5-(selenophene)] (PTSe), and poly[2,2″-((E)-4,4″-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-[6,6″-bithieno[3,2-b]pyrrolylidene]-5,5″(4H,4'H)-dione)-alt-2,5-(tellurophene)] (PTTe)) are synthesized and fully characterized, demonstrating strong absorption in the NIR-II region. Upon adjusting the chalcogen elements, the intramolecular charge-transfer characteristics and the heavy-atom effect are tuned to enhance the intersystem crossing rate, improving the photodynamic effect.

Methods: This study included data from the PLACE trial, a prospective randomized controlled trial comparing half-dose photodynamic therapy and high-density subthreshold micropulse laser treatment in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy. Main outcome measurements were changes in both the foveal PED and the highest PED within the macula at baseline compared with first and final evaluation visit.

Holmium:YAG Laser for the Treatment of Genital and urethral Warts: Multicentre Prospective Evaluation of Safety and Efficacy.

Genital condylomatosis is a highly contagious disease caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV). The aim of this prospective multicentre study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the Holmium:YAG (yttrium-aluminium-garnet) laser in the treatment of genital and intra-urethral warts; the secondary aim was to assess the patients' postoperative satisfaction and cosmetic results. From December 2016 to March 2019, patients with genital warts were prospectively enrolled in three hospitals.
