The promising results obtained in the PARADIGM-HF trial prompted the approval of sacubitril/valsartan (SAC/VAL) as a first-in-class treatment for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients. The effect of SAC/VAL treatment was also studied in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and, although improvements in New York Heart Association (NYHA) class, HF hospitalizations, and cardiovascular deaths were observed, these results were not so promising. However, the demand for HFpEF therapies led to the approval of SAC/VAL as an alternative treatment, although further studies are needed.

Background: Beatriz Nistal-Nuño designed a machine learning system type of ensemble learning for patients undergoing cardiac surgery and intensive care unit cardiology patients, based on sequences of cardiovascular physiological measurements and other intensive care unit physiological measurements in addition to static features, which generates a score for prediction of mortality of cardiac intensive care unit patients.
Background: ■ Gradient Boosting Machine and Random Forest models were built for prediction of mortality at cardiac intensive care units.
Background: ■ A total of 9,761 intensive care unit stays of patients admitted under a Cardiac Surgery and Cardiac Medical services were studied.

Purpose: To evaluate and compare the predictability of five methods of intraocular lens (IOL) calculation in eyes with prior keratorefractive lenticule extraction (KLEx) for the treatment of myopia.
Methods: A retrospective case study included 100 eyes of 52 patients who underwent myopia and myopia with astigmatism treatment with small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE). Preoperative and 3-month postoperative measurements of optical biometry and corneal tomography were obtained.

Background: Aficamten is a cardiac myosin inhibitor that mitigates left ventricular outflow gradients in obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM). The clinical efficacy of aficamten across multiple outcome domains in oHCM has not been fully defined.
Objectives: This responder analysis from the SEQUOIA-HCM (Phase 3 Trial to Evaluate the Efficacy and Safety of Aficamten Compared to Placebo in Adults With Symptomatic oHCM) trial characterizes the clinical impact of aficamten.

The entry into force of the regulation on medical devices obliges ophthalmologists to identify and report possible serious incidents arising from their use. Faced with the doubts that may arise about what can or cannot be considered a serious incident, a working group of members of the Spanish Society of Refractive and Implant Eye Surgery (SECOIR) and the ophthalmology and vision sciences cluster (Cluster4Eye), have prepared a consensus document that aims to guide ophthalmologists on some of the incidents that, in the experience of the work team, are not common or can cause serious damage to the patient's function in relation to the use of medical devices. Incidents related to the use of viscoelastics, anterior capsule dyes, intraocular lenses, and other items used in anterior segment surgery have been addressed.

Background: The development of new large-scale saliva pooling detection strategies can significantly enhance testing capacity and frequency for asymptomatic individuals, which is crucial for containing SARS-CoV-2.
Objective: This study aims to implement and scale-up a SARS-CoV-2 screening method using pooled saliva samples to control the virus in critical areas and assess its effectiveness in detecting asymptomatic infections.
Methods: Between August 2020 and February 2022, our laboratory received a total of 928,357 samples.
