Background: At present, we did not find any articles that studied seroprevalence and its persistence several months later in lung cancer patients in the setting of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Most patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) go on to develop antibodies (Abs) against viral proteins. However, it is not known how long these Abs last nor whether cancer treatments could affect the duration of immune response.

The development of perianal ulcers related to the use of a hemorrhoidal ointment has not been reported in the literature. We describe a series of 11 patients who were treated for perianal ulcers in 10 Spanish hospitals after they used the same ointment containing the active ingredients triamcinolone acetonide, lidocaine, and pentosan polysulfate sodium. No prior or concomitant conditions suggesting an alternative cause for the condition could be identified, and after the patients stopped using the ointment, their ulcers cleared completely in 8 weeks on average.

High Prevalence of Somatic Oncogenic Driver Alterations in Patients With NSCLC and Li-Fraumeni Syndrome.

J Thorac Oncol

July 2020

Thoracic Oncology Group, Cancer Medicine Department, Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France; INSERM, Gustave Roussy Cancer Campus, Université Paris Saclay, Saint-Aubin, France.

Article Synopsis
  • Actionable somatic molecular alterations are identified in 15-20% of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cases, particularly in patients with germline TP53 variants linked to Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), though their specific molecular profiles remain unclear.
  • A study analyzed the clinical and molecular characteristics of 22 NSCLC patients with TP53 variants, revealing a predominance of women, nonsmokers, and adenocarcinoma, with 90% of tumors showing somatic driver mutations, primarily EGFR alterations.
  • The findings highlight a 90% occurrence of oncogenic mutations in these tumors, primarily related to EGFR, indicating a need for further research on how germline TP53 variants contribute to lung cancer

The aim of this work was to assess the variability in the use of health-care resources, based on the number of visits to rheumatology departments by rheumatoid arthritis patients, in Spain, and its association with patient, physician and center characteristics. The sample consisted of patient records of men and women (aged 16 or older), with a clinical diagnosis of RA, who met the American Rheumatism Association 1987 revised criteria and who had been treated in a rheumatology department at a Spanish hospital with at least one visit to a rheumatologist during the two years preceding the date of the study. To analyze which variables were independently associated with the number of consultations, those with a statistically significant result in the bivariate analysis, or which were clinically relevant or deemed confounders, were used in the construction of a linear regression model.
